2、agencies. 1. SCOPE. This CID covers a pneumatic nail-driving hammer. The hammer is intended for driving nails. 2. SALIENT CHARACTERISTICS 2.1 Description. The hammer shall be air operated and shall consist of a handle assembly, a barrel, and a retainer with nail-driving tool. The entire unit shall n

3、ot exceed 15 pounds (Ibs) (6.8 kilograms (kg) in weight and shall not be over 20 inches (50.8 centimeter (cm) in length. 2.2 Material. Material shall be selected by the supplier and shall be subject to all provisions of this CID. Asbestos, cadmium, and radioactive material shall not be used in this

4、item. Radioactive material is defined by title 10, Code of Federal Regulations, part 40, and other radioactive material in which the radioactivity is greater than 0.002 microcuries total activity for the item. The above materials are hazardous to personnel and can cause cancer. The use of these mate

5、rials shall be avoided whenever possible in acquisition. The use of recovered materials made in compliance with regulatory requirements is acceptable providing that all requirements of this CID are met (see 3.1). Beneficial comments, recommendations, additions, deletions, clarifications, etc. and an

The hammer design and construction shall be representative of a standard commercial nail driver with a proven history of durability and performance, which also meets the requirements of this CID. 2.3.1 Lubn -cation. All movin

8、g parts shall be provided with suitable means of lubrication. Oil shall be supplied by a separate line oiler. The hammer shall operate as specified herein when lubricated with a proper lubricant. 2.3.2 Handle assembly. The handle assembly shall consist of the handle, the throttle valve assembly, tri

9、gger or throttle control assembly, and air inlet. The handle shall be of the open, pistol-grip type with thumb throttle control. An air inlet strainer (20 mesh or finer) with internai 114 - 18 NPT shall be attached to the air inlet in the handle. 2.3.3 Barrel. The barrel shall contain the valve mech

10、anism and piston. The valve mechanism shall function to control the flow of air into the barrel to activate the piston. 2.3.4 Retainer and nail-driving tools. The retainer shall be attached to the barrel and shall hold the nail-driving tool in position to receive the blow of the piston. The nail-dri

11、ving tools furnished shall be sufficient to drive the sizes of nails and spikes specified in 2.4.1. 2.4 Perform ance. The hammer shall operate as specified herein at air pressures from 70 to 100 pounds per square inch (psi) (482 to 689 kilopascals (Wa). 2.4.1 CaDability. The hammer shall be capable

12、of driving nails from 1Od to 60d, and spikes up to and including 0.38-inch (9.5 millimeters (mm) diameter, into well-seasoned hardwood that has pre-drilled pilot holes of the same length as the spike and 0.06-inch (1.6 mm) less in diameter than the spike, without bending more than 20 percent of any

13、one size of nail or spike. Both nails and spikes shall be driven flush with the surface of the wood. 2.4.2 Air consumpt ion. Air consumption of hammer shall not exceed 35 cubic feet per minute (16.5 liters per second ) while the hammer is operating at full load at an air pressure of 90 psi (620 kPa)

14、 at the tool. 2.5 Safety. Guards and other appropriate protection shall be provided for the operator(s) of the hammer in accordance with appropriate Department of Labor Occupational Safety and Health Administration Standards. 2.6 Treatment and uainting. Unless otherwise specified (see 6.2), all expo

15、sed surfaces of the hammer shall be treated or painted in accordance with the suppliers standard practice. 2 Licensed by Information Handling ServicesA-A-52553 W 9999974 0170147 196 A-A-52553 2.7 identification marking. The required markings for the hammer shall be limited to the suppliers name or t

16、rademark, model, serial number, and stock number. 2.8 Chest. When specified (see 6.2), a chest of sufficient size and strength to contain the hammer, repair parts, and maintenance tools shall be furnished. Holding brackets shall be provided for holding the hammer in place, and the top shall be hinge

17、d and equipped with a carrying handle and hinged hasp. The total weight of the chest should not exceed 18 Ibs (8.2 kg). 2.9 Sound level. The sound level of the hammer shall not exceed 85 dB(A) for steady state noise. Precautions shall be provided if the sound level exceeds 85 dB(A) when its measured

18、 at four different positions around the hammer while being operated at the users station (see 6.3). Hazard signs, if required, shall state: “Caution: Hearing Protection Required”. 3. REGULATORY REQUIREMENTS 3.1 Recovered maten als. The offerer/contractor is encouraged to use recovered materials to t

19、he maximum extent practicable, in accordance with paragraph 23.403 of the Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR). 4. QUALITY ASSURANCE PROVISIONS 4.1 Responsibility for inspection. The contractor is responsible for the performance of all inspections (examinations and tests). 4.2 Contr actor certificat

20、ion. The contractor shall certify and maintain substantiating evidence that the product offered meets the salient characteristics of this CID and that the product conforms to the producers own drawings, specifications, workmanship standards and quality assurance practices. The Government reserves th

21、e right to require proof of such conformance prior to the first delivery and thereafter as may be otherwise provided for under the provisions of the contract. 5. PACKAGING. Preservation, packing, and marking shall be as specified in the contract or order (see 6.2). 3 Licensed by Information Handling

When the noise level of the hammer exceeds 85 dB(A), the appropriate discussion of the noise hazard in accordance with MIL-STD-1474 (MANUAL paragraph) should include the

25、 requirement for hearing protection, the noise level of the hammer, and the distance from the hammer at which 85 &(A) will always be met. 6.4 Cross-reference . Pneumatic hammers conforming to this CID are interchangeable/ substitutable with pneumatic hammers conforming to MIL-H-11689C.
