2、for all federal agencies. 1. SCOPE. This CID covers a van type trailer containing facilities for conducting hearing tests, fitting of hearing protective devices, record keeping, and also includes an orientation area. The trailer is intended for nontactical use by the Government at various instailati
3、ons 2. SALIENT CHARACTERISTICS 2.1 Standard vehicle and accessories. The vehicle, components, assemblies, and accessories shall be standard or optional items which meet or exceed the requirements of this CID. 2.2 Tiedown loops. Four tiedown loops shall be provided for securing the flly equipped trai
4、ler in high wind areas and on piers. The tiedown loops shall be mounted to the main frame of the trailer and shall be located on each side, at the fiont and rear of the trailer. Each tiedown loop shall be a hardened steel, 3 inch (in.) loop of 0.500 in. diameter cross-section. 2.3 Rustproofing. The
5、vehicle shall be rustproofed in accordance with the accepted commercial standard practice. The trailers shall be fabricated from compatible materials providing corrosion protection and coating adherence equal to or exceeding that provided by hot-dip galvanized 1010 steel, with coating thickness in a
6、ccordance with ASTM A123 (or minimum coating thickness of 0.75 mil on pre-galvanized sheet 0.063 in. or less), with zinc phosphate pre-treatment. A proposed alternate design shall be compared to a galvanized sample (as described above) using Beneficial comments, recommendations, additions, deletions

9、nt penetration of base material. 2.4 General design. 2.4.1 Gross weight. The gross weight shall consist of the weight of the chassis and body with all attachments, accessories, equipment and a full compliment of water. The gross weight of the trailer shall be not more than 8500 pounds (lb). 2.4.2 We
10、ight distribution. With the longitudinal axis of the trailer horizontal and with the trailer resting on a level solid surface, the center of gravity of the trailer shall be forward of the axles. The load imposed on the hitch by the gross weight of the trailer shall be not more than 1000 lb. The rate
11、d capacity of the axle, suspension and tires shall be at least equal to the load imposed at the ground by the gross weight of the trailer. 2.4.3 Accessibility. The design of the vehicle and optional equipment shall permit access for routine servicing and shall permit access for replacement and adjus
12、tment of component parts and accessories with minimal disturbance of other components and systems. 2.4.4 Dissimilar metals. Ail dissimilar metals used in intimate contact shall be insulated fiom one another to prevent galvanic or electrolytic action. 2.4.5 Prohibited materials. Asbestos materials sh
13、all not be used in any form in any part of the vehicle. No item, part, or assembly shall contain radioactive materials in which the specific activity is greater than 0.002 microcuries per gram or activity per item equals or exceeds 0.01 microcouries. 2.4.6 Leakage. The trailer shall not leak when su
14、bjected to a fiesh water spray at a minimum rate of 2 in. per hour at an angle between 30 to 45 degrees from the vertical. The water shail be directed against all sides and the roof of the trailer simultaneously and shail continue for not less than 15 minutes. 2.5 Performance. Vehicle performance as
15、 specified in 2.5.1 shall be met by the trailer when fully equipped with all attachments and accessories, completely serviced, and towed by a towing vehicle for a distance of not less than 100 miles. At least 20 percent of this distance shall be over unimproved roads and the other 80 percent of this
16、 distance shall be over improved roads. 2.5.1 Towing speed and trailing ability. The trailer shall follow the towing vehicle over dry, level, smooth, prepared, hard-surfaced roads at sustained speeds up to 60 miles per hour (mph), and over dry, unimproved and gravel roads at speeds up to 20 mph. 2 P

The trailer shall be capable of moving through an angle of not less than 60 degrees in relation to a 102 in. wide towing vehic
19、le without interference between vehicles. The angle shall be measured between the longitudinal axis of the trailer and the longitudinal axis of the towing vehicle at the lunette. 2.5.3 Parking brakes. Manually applied parking brakes shall be furnished. The parking brakes shall hold the trailer on a
20、dry, hard-surfaced grade of not less than 30 percent when uncoupled from the towing vehicle, resting on the trailers running gear and landing leg, and headed up and down the incline. The parking brake lever shall have sufficient moment arm to require not more than 30 lb of effort for application and
21、 release. Provisions shall be made for slack adjustment. 2.6 Pime nsions. The trailer, uncoupled from the towing vehicle, resting on its landing leg, on level ground, and with the platform level, shall conform to the dimensions specified in table I. TABLE I. Dimensions. 22、 12 I 2.7 v. The trailer shall be equipped with a drawbar of the “A” frame type. Unless otherwise specified, the drawbar shall be equipped with a standard ball hitch assembly, complete with mating ball for installation on the towing vehicle. The hitch shall conform to class 4 of SAE J684. The hitch
23、coupling shall be 2.313 in. When specified (see 6.2), anti-sway bar(s) shall be provided. When specified (see 6.2), the coupling device shall be an offset-ring drawbar lunette coupler conforming to A-A-52464, Type III, and figure 1 and shall provide a 4 in. vertical range of adjustment. The hitch as
24、sembly or lunette ring shall be capable of supporting not less than 1000 lb. 2.8 Landing leg. The trailer shall have a retractable landing leg with a substantial ground bearing plate, with crankiig handle permanently installed. The vertical range of adjustment of the landing leg shall be not less th
25、an 14 in. The landing leg and related parts shall withstand, without permanent deformation, the combined static and dynamic forces due to the proportion of the gross weight imposed, and impacts during coupling and uncoupling operations. When placed into travel position, the landing leg shall remain

A grab hook shall be provided on the free end of each chain. 2.10 Stabilizing jacks . Four permanently installed st
28、abilizing jacks shall be provided to permit four point stabilization of the trailer. The jacks shall be capable of leveling the trailer when used in conjunction with wheel blocks and hydraulic jack. The wheel blocks and hydraulic jack shall be furnished. Each stabilizing jack shall be provided with
29、a ground bearing plate not less than 7.50 in. in diameter or 7.50 in. square. Jacks shall be retractable for maximum road clearance.
