2、ral agencies. i 1. SCOPE AND CLASSIFICATION 1.1 Scope. This specification covers the requirements for chamois leather made from oil-tanned sheepskin fiechers, 1.2 Classification. 1.2.1 Grades, classes, and sizes. Chamois leather shall be of the following and sizes, as specified (6.2). Grade A - For

3、straining water and other impurities from gasoline. Grade B - General purpose (washing and polishing). Class 1 - Packet-shaped. . Size 12 X 14 inches. Size 16 X 21 inches. Size 20 X 26 inches. Size 23 X 26 inches. Class 2 - Natural skin-shaped, edges trimmed. Size S - Small. Size M - Medium. Size L

The chamois leather shall be made from the flesh splits of s

14、heepskins split before tanning. leather. 3.2 Tannage. The color of the chamois shall be natural as produced by the oil tannage. The chamois shall not be chemically ble

18、ached or dyed. 3,3.4 Tnickness. The chamois shall be not less than 1-1/4 ounces in thickness. NOTE: 1 ounce = 1/64 inches. 3.3.5 Breaking force. 3.3.5.1 Grade A. The breaking force of the grade A chamois shall be not less than 40 pounds when tested as specified in 4.3. 3.3.5.2 Grade B. The breaking

19、force of the grade B chamois shall be not less than 30 pounds when tested as specified in 4.3. 3.3.6 Water absorption. 3.3.6.1 Grade A. The grade A chamois shall gain not less than 450 percent of its conditioned weight by water absorption when tested as specified in 4.3. . weight by water absorption

33、onsibility for inspection. Unless otherwise specified in the contract or purchase order, the supplier is responsible for the performance of all inspection requirements as specified herein. Except as otherwise specified in the contract or order, the supplier may use his own or any other facilities su

34、itable for the performance of the inspection requirements specified herein, unless disapproved by the Government, set forth in the specification where such inspecifications are deemed necessary to assure that supplies and services conform to prescribed requirements. The Government reserves the right

35、 to perform any of the inspections 4.1.1 Certificate of compliance. Where certificates of compliance are submitted, the Government reserves the right to check test such items to determine the validity of the certification. 4.2 Inspection. Sampling for inspection shall be performed in accordance with

36、 MIL-STD-105, except where otherwise indicated hereinafter. 4.2.1 Component and material inspection, In accordance with 4.1 above, components and materials shall be tested in accordance with all the requirements of referenced specifications, drawings and standards unless otherwise excluded, amended,

37、 modified, or qualified in this specification or applicable purchase document. 4.2.2 Examination of the end item.
