14、cription.-Air Sampler MX-1191 ( )/TDQ-l shall consist of a storage battery operated blower with a flowmeter and a suitable intake with filter. This instrument shall provide a means of obtaining a sam- ple of the particulate matter in the surkound- ing air by passing a measured volume of air through
15、a filter and collecting the particulate on the filter for analysis. 3.2 Model.-The referenced model shall be understood as the one which, in accordance with the invitation for bids, will be available for inspection by prospective bidders and will be loaned to the contractor. Unless otherwise specifi
16、ed herein, the equipment shall conform to the following: 3.2.1 Construction. - Construction of the equipment shall conform to the model. 3.2.2 Function.-The equipment shall in- corporate all functions provided by the model. 17、3A 3.2.3 Performance. - Performance of the equipment shall be at least equal to that of the model. When any performance charact- eristics of the model is not specified herein, the following shall apply: as soon as the model is received by the contractor, he shall adjust it for optimum performance an
18、d pre- pare to conduct all measurements necessary to determine the performance characteristics which are not specified herein. The contract- ing officer shall be notified of the date when the measurements are to be taken, sufficient- ly in advance to send a representative to witness them. Measuremen
19、ts shall be taken by the contractor and three record copies thereof furnished to the contracting officer. 3.3 Preproduction samples. 3.3.1 Quantities of preproduction samples. -After award of contract, preproduction samples shall be furnished as follows. 20、3.3.2 Compliance with specified requiTe- ments. 3.3.2.1 Preproduction samples shall meet specified requirements, shall be made and assembled by tools and methods that will be used for quantity production, and shall be accompanied by a statement to that effect. (See 3.3.2.3 for exception.) 3.3.2.2 Ap
21、proval of qreproduction samples shall not be construed as a waiver of any specified requirement. After being released to the contractor (see 3.3.4), preproduction samples to be offered as units on contract shall be refabricated by the contractor if nec- essary to meet specified requirements. 3.3.2.3
22、 When deviation from 3.3.2.1 is un- avoidable, the preproduction samples may be submitted for approval provided that the accompanying statement* (see 3.3.2.1) de- scribes in detail each general. 3.4.1 Selection.-Parts, materials and pro- cesses shall be: (a) As called for by this specification, and
23、such as to enable the equip- ment to meet specified perform- ance and other requirements. (b) In conformance with the applica- ble documents referenced to this specification. The particular type class, grade, characteristic, com- position, construction, etc. se- lected under an applicable docu- ment
24、 shall duplicate most nearly the corresponding parts, mate- rial or process used in the model. (c) Interchangeably equivalent (same manufacturers, types, or equal) with corresponding items used in construction of the model. When such part or material in the mod- el cannot be identified as to man- uf

If two of the foregoing are in conflict, the one stated fi
26、rst shall apply. 3.4.2 Ratings.-Ratings and derated values of parts and materials shall not be exceeded when the equipment is subjected to specified service conditions. Derating methods speci- fied by applicable specifications or standards shall be used. 3.5 Solder, flux and soldering. 3.5.1 Soft so
27、lder.-Soft solder shall con- form to Specification QQ-s-571 and when used for electrical connections shall have a minimum tin content of 39.0 percent by weight. 3.5.2 Flux and cleaning agents.-Flux for soldering shall be rosin or rosin and alcohol. No acid or acid salts shall be used in prepa- ratio
28、n for or during soldering; however, ex- ception is permitted for preliminary tinning of electrical connections and for tinning or soldering of mechanical joints not used to complete electrical circuits, but in no case shall acid or acid salts be used where they can come in contact with insulation ma
29、te- rial. Where acid or acid salts are used, as permitted above, they shall be completely neutralized and removed immediately after use. 3.5.3 Soldeiing. - Soldered connections shall be neat. There shall be no sharp points or rough surfaces resulting from insufficient heating. The solder shall feath
30、er out to a thin edge, indicating proper flowing and wetting action, and shall not be crystallized, overheated, or underheated. The minimum necessary amount of flux and solder shall be used for electrical connections. Wherever practicable, excess rosin shall be removed with a wire brush and then a d
31、ry cloth ; any resulting loose flakes of rosin shall be care- fully removed from the inside of the equip- ment. Insulation material that has been sub- _-. 4 5% jected to heating during the soldered opera- tion shall be undamaged and parts fastened thereto shall not have become loosened. 3.6 Labels.-
32、Labels (cabling or circuit diagrams, operating instructions, safety notices, lists of tools or contents, etc.) shall conform to the following: 3.6.1 Lettering.-Lettering shall be in ver- tical Gothic type, with a minimum height of three sixty-fourths inch. 3.6.2 Border.-Where space permits, a bor- d
33、er of one-fourth inch or more shall be pro- vided on each edge of the label. 3.6.3 Material and process.-Material and process for labels shall conform to the following : (a) Lettered on aluminum, brass, or copper, applied by reverse etch- ing, machine engraving, die stamping, lithographing, print- i
34、ng, or silk screening. (b) Printed on white book paper lam- inated between two sheets of minimum 0,016 inch, clear, trans- parent, polyvinyl-chloride-acetate plastic sheets. The two sheets shall be bonded together to seal against moisture. (c) Printed on a minimum 0,020 inch, white, opaque, polyviny
35、l-chloride- acetate plastic sheet and covered with a minimum 0.010 inch, clear, transparent sheet of the same material. The two sheets shall be bonded together to seal against moisture. However, the
37、 abrasion test shall apply only to labels mounted where they are subject to abrasion during normal use of the equip- ment and the tests on decalcomanias shall apply to decalcomanias mounted on surfaces simulating the mounting surfaces of the equipment. 3.6.5 Mounting. - Labels, except decalco- mania
38、s, shall be securely and permanently mounted by screws or rivets that will not stain the labels under specified service con- ditions. Adhesives and mounting processes used for decalcomanias shall be as recom- mended by the manufacturer of the decal- comanias. 3.7 Marking. 3.7.1 Identification markin
39、g. - Identifica- tion marking of components and parts shall be required by the subsidiary specifications or drawings covering such articles. When identification marking is not so specified, the following requirements shall apply. 3.7.1.1 Nomenclatzcre ma?%ing. - Compo- nents and parts to which Joint
40、 Army-Navy or Signal Corps nomenclature has been as- signed shall bear identification marking in accordance with Specification 71-4944 ex- cept that cables and cable assemblies shall be marked in accordance with 3.7.4.2. 3.7.1.2 Other identification marking. - Identification marking of components an
41、d parts, except as specified in 3.7.1.1 shall con- form to the subparagraphs hereto. Size of the marking shall provide maximum legibili- ty commensurate with the size of the article and the space available for marking. 3.7.1.2.1 Elect?.ical aTtic1es.-Electrical ar- ticles shall be marked with the ma
42、nufac- turers name or trademark, his identifying part number, value and rating when prac- ticable, and other pertinent information. When space is limited, as much as possible of the foregoing shall be included, prefer- ance being in the order given. Subassem- blies that are replaceable as a unit sha
43、ll be marked in the same manner, but the mark- ing shall be such as not to be confused with the marking for any part of the subassembly. 3.7.1.2.2 Nonelect?ical urtic1es.-Nonelec- trical components shall be marked with the manufacturers name or trademark, his identifying part number, and other perti
44、nent information. Parts such as screws, nuts and washers need not be marked but larger or more complicated replaceable parts shall be marked, if practicable, as specified for com- ponents. Subassemblies that are replaceable as a unit shall be marked in the same man- ner as parts, but the marking sha
45、ll be such as not to be confused with the marking for any part of the assembly. 3.7.2 Technical manual caution notice.-A technical manual caution notice conforming to Drawing SC-D-17269 shall be provided on each component that has operating con- trols. The notice shall appear on the operat- ing pane
46、l, or in a prominent place if there is not operating panel. 3.7.3 Marking connectors and controls.- Binding posts, connectors, keys, jacks, switches, other controls, and the like shall be suitably designated by marking on the surface where they are mounted. The mark- ing shall be such that the funct
47、ion of the part can be readily identified by the equip- ment operator. 3.7.4 Murking of type numbers and refer- ence designations. 3.7.4.1 Reference designations.-Reference designations, as specified herein, shall con- form to Specification MIL-R-10187. Refer- ence designations shall not be marked o

49、tifica- tion tag conforming to Drawing SC-A-21825 and fastened securely around the cable. 3.7.4.3 Fuses and lamps.-Reference desig- nations shall not be marked on fuses or lamps. The reference designation of the fuse or lamp shall be marked adjacent to the fuse holder 01 lamp socket. Where space is lim- ited, the reference designation of the fuse holder or lamp socket may be omitted to provide space for the reference designation of the fuse or lamp. 3.7.4.4 Other electrical parts.-Except as otherwise specified in 3.7.4.3 the reference designation for each part having electric
