REQUIREMENTS 3.1 General.-The cartridge case shall comply with the require

11、 classification list contained in the raw material specifications, the surface and physical condition of the raw material intended for use in manufacture . 3.3 Mechanical properties.-The mechanical properties specified on the applicable drawings and referenced specifications shall be uniform through
12、out each section. 3.3.1 Thermal treatment.-The entire cartridge case shall be subjected to a thermal treatment after the heading operation by heating .above the upper critical temperature point, quenching and tempering to the desired properties. 3.3.2 Stress relief.-The cartridge case shall be adequ
13、ately stress relieved at the times and temperatures suitable for development of de si red properties. 3.4 Protective coating.-Protective coating as specified on the applicable drawings and reference specifications shall applv to all surfaces of the cartridge case regardless of contour configuration
14、and shall be uniform and continuous. Scratches exposing base metal will not be permit ted. 3.5 Maximum profile and alignment.-Maximum profile and alignment of the cartridge case shall comply with the requirements of the applicable drawing. 3.6 Functional.-The cartridge case shall be subjected to a f
15、unctional test in the following phases: a. Excess pressure phase b. Cold temperature phase c. Excess, excess pressure phase (for information onlv). . 3.6.1 Obturation.-The cartridge case shall effectively seal the breech of the weapon against leakage of gases generated during firing. 3.6.2 Soundness
16、.-After firing, the cartridge case shall be free of cracks or splits. 3.6.3 Extraction-After firing, the cartridge case shall be extracted by the service extractors when the weapon is operated in the normal manner. Re
18、quirements for the submission of first article samples by the contractor shall be as specified in the contract. Workmanship.-The requirements for workmanship are as specified on the applicable drawings, referenced specifications and the following: Metal defects.-The cartridge case shall be free from
19、 cracks, blisters, seams, laminations, deep scratches or porosity. 3.8 3.8.1 3.8.2 Flow of metal.-The flow of metal in the section of the cartridge case joining the head and sidewall shall follow the direction of the contour of the interior curved surface without presence of folds, cold shuts or rou
20、ghness. minimum length or depth as required by the app1icabl.e drawing and specifications. 3.8.3 Threads.-Threads shall be full and undamaged for t.he entire 3.8.4 Burr.-No cartridge case shall have a burr. 3.8.5 Foreiqn matter.-No cartridge case shall contain chips, dirt, grease, oil, rust, corrosi

QUALITY ASSURANCE PROVISIONS 4.1 Responsibility for inspection and standard quality assurance provisions.-Unless otherwise specified herein or in the contract, the provisions of MIL-A-48078 shall apply and are herebv made a part of this detail specification. shall be

31、sting.-Testing is described in the First Article and Quality Conformance Inspection tables. 4.4.3.1 Functional tests.-The following proving ground tests will be performed by the Government: 4.4.3.1.1 First article sample.-The quantities listed in Table I will be ballistically tested in the phases in

33、 5. Primer retention O 4.4.3.l.2 Production lot.-One hundred cartridge cases from each lot (see 4.4.11, will be ballistically tested in the excess pressure phase. Acceptance and rejection criteria shall be in accordance with Table III. If after the first submission the lot is eligible for retest (di
34、d not meet the reject criteria) an additional two hundred samples shall be provided for test. The total cumulative sample of three hundred must now meet the requirements of Table III. The contractor shall submi
37、t for approval inspection equipment designs in accordance with the terms of the contract. See Section (i of MIL-A-48078 and 6.8 herein. 4.5 Test methods and procedures 4.5.1 Thermal treatment.-Each cartridge case shall be subjected to a hardness comparator test of a non-destructive tvpe approved by
38、the Contracting Officer. 4.5.2 High stress expansion test.-Each cartridge case in the lot (see 4.4.1) after heat treatment but prior to tapering shall be subjected to this test. The cartridge case shall be expanded diametrically ,050 inches (1.27mm) minimum while under pressure in a zone.extending f
39、rom 1.5 inches (38.10111) above the flange to 9 inches (228.60mm) above the flange, expansion will decrease as the flange is approached, expansion at flange to be zero. specified hy Dwg. 10520214 5.n accordance with the procedures for Rockwell Hardness Testing prescribed by ASTM E-18. 4.5.3 Hardness
40、 test.-This test shall be performed on locations 4.5.4 Tension test.-The test specimens shall be taken from the cartridge case in accordance with the standard position and size of the tensile.specimen chart described in Figure 1. The yield strength, tensile strength and elongation shall be determine
41、d in accordance with the procedures prescribed by ASTM E-8. The results shall be recorded for information only. . 4.5.5 Macro examination.-Each sample shall be cut in 90 degree (1.5708 rad) sections along the axis through the primer hole of the sample cartrifige case. The specimens shall be etched i
42、n accordance with the procedures prescribed for this test by ASTM E381 and visually examined to determine compliance with 3.8.2. Protective coatis.-The criteria specified by the applicable specificationhall be utilized in determining the acceptability of tile protective coating. 4.5.6 Provided by IH

MIL-C-63296 (AR) 4.5.6.1 Thickness of coating.-Five cartridge cases from each lot coating shall be determined by the method specified in the applicable specification. Failure of any specimen to comply with the requ
44、irements of the applicable specification shall be cause for rejection of the lot. 4.5.6.2 Salt spra .-Five cartridge cases from each lot (see 4.4.1) (see 4.4.1) shall be subjected to this test. The cartridge case shall comply with the requirements of 3.8 or established visual standards. The visual standards shall be mutually agreed upon between the
47、government and the contractor. 4.5.7.1 Cracks detection.-Four power 14x) magnification shall be used in the examination of the exterior surface of the sidewall for a minimum distance of eight inches (203.20mml forward of the base (flange). All other surfaces may be examined without magnification. 4.
48、5.8 .Maximum profile and alignment gage.-Each cartridge case, after the application of the protective coating shall freely enter a maximum profile and alignment gage, Dwg. 8663760. The gate of the gage shall close without interference with the cartridge case base (flange). 4.5.9 Functional test 4.5.9.1 First article sample 4.5.9.1.1 Excess pressure phase.-The cartridge case will be assembled into a complete round in the same manner as rewired for service firing. chamber pressure with the following limi tc (see Dwg. 10520214) .
