This specification covers the loading, assembling and packing for one type of propelling charge designated as Charge, Propelling, M203A1 for 155mm Howitzer, M198. 2. 11、n the event of a conflict between the text of this specification and the references cited herein, the text of this speci3ication shall take precedence. I 3 . REQUIREMENTS 3.1 Materials. Materials shall be in accordanec with appli- cable drawings and specifications, 3.1.1 Liner. The liner shall meet
12、the requirements as speci- fied in Dwg. 9378133 and tested in accordance with MPE-L-48P96, 3.2 Propelling charge. T
14、he charge propel- ling assembly weight shall not differ by more than 2.0 ounces from the total amount specified in the loading authorization plus average weights of the case body, rear cap and igniter assembly, liner assembly, tie cords and tapes. 3.4 Dimensional gage. 3.4.1 Maximum length. The comp
15、leted charge shall freely enter the prescribed gage. The gage shall be designed to inspect the maximum length. 3.5 Moisture content of black powder. The moisture content of the black powder at the igniter loading station at the time of loading shall not exceed the amount specified in MIL-P-223. The
16、moisture content of the black powder in the basepad of the propel- ling charge shall be determined in accordance with 4.5.5. 3.6 Moisture content of CBI. The moisture content of the Cs1 in the basepad of the propelling charge shall be determined in accordance with 4.5.6. 3.7 Destructive pull test. T
17、he force of the adhesive bond between rear cap and igniter container shall be 200 lbs minimum when determined- in accordance with 4.5.7. 3.8 Proving ground (see 6.7 and 6.8). The propelling charge shall function s
19、atisfac- torily without excessive or smoldering residue (see 6.11). 3.9 Assembly torque. The test screw shall be assembled to withstand subsequent reapplication of the minimum assembly torque specified on the applicable drawing, without moving (see 6.14). 3.10 First article inspection. This specific
20、ation makes provisions for first article inspection. 21、 6.18). The initial p.roduc- tion test shall be serformed in accordance with Table III before releasing the propeiling charge for field use. 3.12 Workmanship. All par.ts shall be fabricated and assembled in a thorough, workmanlike manner, They shall be free of dents, cracks, excessive adhesives not
22、cleaned from joints and other foreign material. 4. QUALITY ASSURANCE PROVISIONS 4.1 Responsibility for inspection and standard quality assurance provisions. Unless otherwise specified herein, the provisions of MIL-A-48078 shall apply and are hereby made a part sf this detail specification. 4.2 Class
23、ifiction of inspections. The following inspection shall be conducted on this material: a. First article inspection b. Quality conformance inspection 4.3 First article inspection. 4.3.1 Submission. The contractor shall submit a first article sample as designated by the Contracting Officer for evaluat
24、ion in accordance with the provisions of 4.3.2. 29、t formation provision of MIL-A-48078. In addition, inspection lots of propelling charge assemblies shall contain: a. Propellant from not more than one lot number. b. Black powder from not more than two lot numbers with the.same interfix number from one manufacturer. (See 6.15). c. CBI powder from no
30、t more than two lot numbers with the same interfix number from one manufacturer. (See 6.15). d. Cases from not more than one interfix number from one manufacturer. 4.4.2 Examination. See MIL-A-48078. a. Sampliriq plans. Unless otherwise specified in the Classification of Defects and Test Tables, sam
31、pling plans for major and minor defects shall be in accordance with MIL-STD-105, Inspection Level II. Continuous sampling in accordance with MIL-STD-1235 may be used if approved by the Government. Rear tourmaline gages (2) shall be used
38、to measure the maximu.m chamber pressure of each -charge. Copper crusher gages (2) shall be used to measure the maximum chamber pressure of .each charge for information. Velocity coils will be used to measure the muzzle velocity of each charge. Temperature indicator (thermometer) strips shall be -pl
39、aced on the side of all charges or on the side. of the metal containers, as applicable, conditioned at 1450F as a further assurance of the proper .condit.ioning temperature. If -any indicator strip shows the charge has been exposed to a temperature greater than 1450F, that charge will not be fired.
40、4.5.9.1 Muzzle .velocity and muzzle velocity standard devi,ation. Determination of acceptance will be in accordance with MIL-STD-414, Section B, Table B3., AQL of 0.65%. all muzzle velocity and muzzle velocity standard deviation samples will be ballistic tested at 70OF. Fifteen (15) charges wiil be
41、fired for muzzle velocity and muzzle velocity standard devi,ation. If the sample is determined unacceptable the lot will be r.ejected. In addition, if the velocity standards-deviation of the sample multiplied by the factor 0.76 exceeds the-applicable lot requirement, the lot shall be rejected. Fifte
42、en (15) calibration charges will be fired alter- nately with the test samples and the muzzle velocity and pressure of all charges will be corrected to standard conditions. 4.5.9.2 1450F firing. Ten (10) charges will be conditioned and fired at 1450F. Five (5) calibration charges at the same temperat
43、ure will be fired intermixed with the test samples and the muzzle velocity and pressure of all charges corrected to standard conditions. 4.5.9.3 Pressure. 4.5.9 3.1 Individual corrected maximum pressure. If any propelling charge individual corrected maximum pressure exceeds the applicable requiremen
44、t, the lot shall be rejected. 4.5.9.3.2 700 averaqe corrected,pressure. If any propel- ling charge average corrected pressure obtained at 70OF exceeds the applicable requirement, the lot shall be referred to the procuring activities. 4.5.9.4 Residue. All propelling charges fired at different tempera
45、tures in-accordance with- 4.5.9.1 and 4.5.9.2 shall be _. observed for excessive residue and smoldering residue. 46、o the procuring activities with a copy of test data forwarded to Commander, Armament Research and Development Center, ATTN: SMCAR-AEE-BP, for disposition whenever any of the following conditions exist: a. Flaming, smoking or smoldering residue in a stationary position on the breech surface, chamber;
47、 or tube surface after the firing pulse. h. Evidence of two or more rounds exhibi-ting excessive residue. (see 6.11.1) 4.5.10 Teardown inspection. Each container and propelling charse will be subjected, to each of the critical (except critical defect 3,-paragraph 4.4. 2.7) and 100 percent mjor (exce
48、pt major defect 101, major defect 102, paragraph .4.4. 2.3; major defect 102, major defect 103, paragraph 4.4. 2. 6; maj-or defect 107, major defect 108, paragraph 4.4.2.7; major defect 102, paragraph 4.4.2.10) inspections defined in 4. 4.2 of this specification. Samples may be accumulated or inspected upon selection providing .the selection remains random and represents the lot. The- inspections will be performed by the contractor and witn-essed by the Gbvernment. The detection of any one of the above defects shall be cause f
