2、ter, Department of the Army, and is available for use by all Departments and Agencies of the Department of Defense. 1. SCOPE i. 1 Scope. This specification covers one type of general purpose harness, having an “HI design and made of nylon webbing. The harness is equippd wih quick-fit adapters, buckl

3、es and snaps to secure it around the load and to a parachute harness worn by the parachutist. 1.2 Classification. The harness shall be of the following type: Type I - Deleted (see 6.3) Type II - Harness, Single Point Release 2. APPLICABLE DOCUMENTS 2.1 General. The documents listed in this section a

4、re specified in sections 3 and 4 of this specification. This section does not include documents cited in other sections of this specification or recommended for additional information or as examples. In the event of a conflict between the text of this document and the references cited herein, the text of this document takes preceden

10、ce. Nothing in this document, however, supersedes applicable laws and regulations unless a specific exemption has been obtained. 3. REQUIREMENTS 3.1 First article. When specified (see 6.2), a sample shall be subjected to first article inspection in accordance with 4.2. 3.2 Conformance inspection. Th

11、e end item, materials and components shall be subjected to conformance inspection in accordance with 4.3. 3.3 Materials and components. Materials and components shall conform to the requirements on the applicable drawings, to subsidiary specifications and standards applicable thereto, and as specifi

Recycled, recovered, or environmentally preferable materials sho

13、uld be used to the maximum extent possible provided the material meets or exceeds the operational requirements, and promotes economically advantageous life cycle costs. 3.4 Construction. The construction shall conform in all respects to the drawings listed in section 2 and all subsidiary drawings pe

14、rtaining thereto, and as specified herein. 3.4.1 Stitchinp. machine. All machine stitching shall be as specified on the applicable drawings and as specified herein. 3.4.1.1 Tees 301 and 308 stitching. Ends of all type 301 stitching shall be backstitched or overstitched not less than 1/2 inch in acco

15、rdance with the required stitch pattern. Ends of type 308 stitching shall be secured by crowding a minimum of three stitches (accomplished by not allowing the materials to move) at the beginning and end of the stitching. Thread tension shall be maintained so that there will be no loose stitching res

16、ulting in the puckering of the material sewn. The lock shall be embedded in the materials sewn. 3.4.1.1.1 Repairs of type 301 stitching. Repairs of type 301 stitching shall be as follows: a. When thread breaks or bobbin run-outs occur during the stitching, the stitching shall be repaired by restarti

17、ng the stitching a minimm of 1 inch (1/2 inch for box-x and W-W stitching) from the end of the stitching. I/ b. Thread breaks or two or more consecutive skipped or run-off stitches noted during inspection of the item (in-process or end item) shall be repaired by overstitching. The stitching shall st

18、art a minimum of 1 inch from the defective area, (112 inch for box-x and W-W stitching), continue over the defective area, and continue a minimum of 1 inch (1 /2 inch for box-x and W- W stitching) beyond the defective area onto the existing stitching. Loose or excessively tight stitching shall be re

19、paired by removing the defective stitching, without damaging the materials, and restitching in the required manner. L/ - 1/ When making the above repairs, the ends of the stitching are not required to be backstitched. 3.4.1.1.2 Repairs of type 308 stitching. Repairs of type 308 stitching shall be in

20、 accordance with 3.4.1.1.1 a and 3.4.1.1.1 b, except that the stitching shall overstitch the defective area a minimum of three stitches onto the existing stitches. 3.4.1.2 Automatic stitching. Automatic stitching machines may be used to perform any of the required stitch patterns provided the requir

22、-27893F = 9999706 2033394 449 = MIL-DTL-27893F (GL) 3.4.2 wends. All thread ends shall be trimmed to a maximum length of 1/4 inch. 3.4.3 Setting of mommets. Holes shall be prepunched to receive the grommets. Holes prepunched to receive the grommets shall be smaller than the outside diameter of the g

23、rommet barrel so that the barrel must be forced through the hole. The grommet shall be securely clinched without cutting the adjacent material. 3.4.4 Finishing of the jacketed wire rope ends. All wire rope ends shall be finished by either the melt method specified in 3.4.4.1 or by the dip method spe

24、cified in 3.4.4.2 such that the ends are completely enclosed with the melted coating flush with the melted nylon jacket. 3.4.4.1 Melt method. Heat the wire rope end nylon jacket with a suitable electrical heating element so as to melt the nylon over the end to form a smooth round surface. Remove any

25、 melted residue on the jacket surface with a fine abrasive material such that the surface is not damaged and is finished smooth. 3.4.4.2 Dip method. Coat the wire rope end with a nyln II or nylon 6/6 powder. Heat the coated end for 10 seconds at 405 burr, sharp edge or flash Color and finish not as

For acquisition purposes, the packaging requirements shall be as specified in the contract or order (see 6.2). When actual packaging of materiel is to be performed by DoD pe

37、rsonnel, these personnel need to contact the responsible packaging activity to ascertain requisite packaging requirements. Packaging requirements are maintained by the Inventory Control Points packaging activity within the Military Department or Defense Agency, or within the Military Departments Sys

38、tem Command. NOTES (This section contains information of a general or explanatory nature which may be helpful, but is not mandatory). 6.1 Intended use. The harness is intended for use by individual parachutists for securing individual combat equip

40、ment during airborne jump operations. The harness with the secured load is attached to the parachutists harness D-rings with the attaching strap snaps. 6.2 Acquisition reauirements. Acquisition documents must specify the following: a. Title, number and date of this specification b. When first articl

41、e is required (see 3.1) c. Sampling plan, lot size, sample size (see 4.3) d. Packaging requirements (see 5.1) this document because the item is no longer procured. 6.3 Classification deletion. The requirements for type I, “Hl Harness have been deleted in 6.4 Source for heat sealinp equipment. A sour
