This specification covers two types of Solvent Red 1 dye (CAS 1229-55-6),chemically known as orthomethoxyphenylazobeta-napthol;Type I - for solvent based bi

3、nders and bowl and V type blenders,Type II - for air based fluidized bed type blenders.2. APPLICABLE DOCUMENTS2.1 General. VERIFICATION4.1 Classification of inspections. The inspection requirements specified herein are classi-fied as follows:(a) First articl

16、e inspection (see 4.2)(b) Conformance inspection (see 4.3)4.2 First article inspection.4.2.1 Lotting. Thefirstarticlelotshallconsistofatleast970kgofSolventRed1Dyemanu-factured using the same methods, materials, equipment, and processes as will be used duringregular production. The first article samp

17、le shall be submitted for inspection and approval inaccordance with the terms of the contract. If there is any change of vendors, methods, materi-als, equipment, facilities, orifthere isa breakinproductionof90daysormore, thecontractingProvided by IHSNot for ResaleNo reproduction or networking permit

18、ted without license from IHS-,-,-MIL-DTL-51523A(EA)4OfficershallbenotifiedandatthediscretionoftheGovernment,anewfirstarticlesamplemaybe required.4.2.2 Sampling. The contractor shall randomly select three representative samples, ofapproximately 200g each, from the first article lot of dye and place e

19、ach sample in a clean drycontainer labeled to identify the first article lot.4.2.3 Inspection procedure. Eachfirst article sample shall be subjectedto all of the inspec-tions specified in the classification of characteristics in 4.3.5.4.2.4 Acceptance criteria. If any first article sample fails to c

20、omply with any of the applica-ble requirements, the firstarticle sample shall be rejected. The Governmentreserves the righttoterminate inspectionupon anyfailure tocomply withany ofthe requirements. Thecontrac-tor shall obtain written approval from the contracting activity prior to proceeding with re

21、gularproduction.4.3 Conformance inspection.4.3.1 Lotting. A lot shall consist of the dye produced by one manufacturer, at one plant,fromthesamematerials,underthesamemanufacturingconditions,andatthesametime. Theminimum lot size shall be 2270 kg. In the event the lot is a batch operation (see 6.7), se

22、veralbatches may be mixed together to form a lot, provided the batches are subjected to a physicalmixing operation intended to make the final product uniform and homogenous.4.3.2 Sampling. The contractor shall randomly select three representative samples, ofapproximately 200g each, from the lot of d

23、ye and place each sample in a clean dry containerlabeled to identify the lot represented.4.3.3 Inspection procedure. Each dye sample shall be inspected in accordance with theclassification of characteristics in 4.3.5. Failure of any sample to conform to any characteristicin theclassification ofchara

24、cteristics basedacceptance criteriaspecified thereinshall becausefor rejection of the lot represented.4.3.4 Criticalcharacteristics. Unlessotherwisespecifiedintheclassificationofcharacteris-tics, the samplingandacceptance criteria forcritical characteristicsshall be in accordance withthe Critical ch

25、aracteristics paragraph of MIL-STD-1916.4.3.5 Classification of characteristics. Conformance inspections shall be as specified inthefollowingclassificationofcharacteristicsparagraphs. Whenverificationlevels(VLs)arespeci-fiedforselectionofsamplesizesandacceptancecriteria, theattributessamplingplanofM

PrepareandmeasuretheabsorbanceofastandardSolventRed1solutionandspecimen solution as follows:

29、Weigh to the nearest milligram approximately 0.400g of dye andquantitativelytransfertoa500-milliliter(mL)volumetric flaskusingsmallamountsofisopro-pyl alcohol for washing. Dissolve specimen in approximately 200mL of isopropyl alcohol, stir-ringandbreakingupalllumpstofacilitatethesolution.Diluteto500

30、mLwithisopropylalcohol.Shake thoroughly to insure uniform mixing. Remove a 20mL aliquot, transfer to a second500mL volumetric flask, dilute to 500mL with isopropyl alcohol, and mix thoroughly. Using aspectrophotometer, read the adsorbance value of the more dilute solution at 500 +/- 2 nano-meters.Us

31、etheisopropylalcoholthatwasusedinpreparingthesolutionasthereferenceliquidin the spectrophotometer. Calculate the percent purity as follows:Percent purity = (ABC)(DE)where: A = Percent purity of the standard,B = Absorbance value of the specimen,C = Weight of standard in grams (gm),D = Absorbance valu

32、e of standard, andE = Weight of specimen in grams (gm).4.4.2 Particlesize. Particlesizeanalysisshallbeperformedusingthelaserdiffractionmeth-odoutlinedbelow. Particlesizeanalysisandhistogramarerequiredwithmaterialcertification.1. SAMPLE PREPARATION:A.Weigh approximately0.2 Grams(200 mg)of dyesample i

33、ntoa 30mL beaker. Add25mL deionized water to the dye sample.B. Add 1 or 2 drops of surfactant into the dye/water mixture.C. Place an external ultrasonic probe (Sonics 130 watt) in the dye sample mixture. Soni-cate the sample mixture for 30 seconds at 100% power setting.2. INTRODUCTION OF SAMPLE INTO

34、 THE INSTRUMENT AND TESTING:A. After sonication is completed, place a clean stirring bar into the sample and move thesonicated sample to a stirrer set to medium speed to keep all of the particles in the liquid insuspension.B. Set the laser diffraction particle size analyzer for MIE calculation with

35、a Relative Re-fractive Index at 1.50 -.010.C. Using a pipette transfer a 7.5 +/- 0.5 mL sample from the beaker into the reservoirwiththesystemcirculatingataslow speeduntil properparticle loadingis attainedintheinstru-ment.Provided by IHSNot for ResaleNo reproduction or networking permitted without l

ForType II dye reportthe meanparticle size, distribution shape and the percentagebelow 10 microns for the sample.4.4.3 Volatile matter. Weigh to t

37、he nearest milligram approximately 5g of the specimen inatared,glass-stopperedweighingbottle. Removethe stopperanddrytoconstantweightat70to 75 C. Cool toroom temperature in a desiccator andweigh. Calculate the percent byweightvolatile matter as follows:Percent volatile matter = 100(A B)Wwhere: A = W

38、eight of specimen and stoppered bottle before heating in grams,B = Weight of specimen and stoppered bottle after heating in grams, andW = Weight of specimen before heating in grams.4.4.4 Heavy metal contamination. Determine the heavy metals content of the sample inaccordance with EPA Method 6010B.4.

39、4.5 Apparent density. Determine the apparentdensityinaccordance withASTM D1895,Method A, except that the sample shall be dried as specified in 4.4.3 prior to testing.5. PACKAGING5.1 Packaging. For acquisition purposes, the packaging requirements shall be as specifiedinthecontractororder(see6.2).When

40、actualpackagingofmaterielistobeperformedbyDoDor in-house contractor personnel, these personnel need to contact the responsible packagingactivitytoascertainrequisitepackagingrequirements.Packagingrequirementsaremaintainedby the Inventory Control Points packaging activities within the Military Service

41、 or DefenseAgency,orwithinthemilitaryservicessystemcommands.Packaging dataretrieval isavailablefrom the managing Military Departments or Defense Agencys automated packaging files,CD-ROM products, or by contacting the responsible packaging activity.6. NOTES(This section contains information of a gene

42、ral or explanatory nature that may be helpful,but is not mandatory.)6.1 Intendeduse.
