2、ive and Armaments Command, Department of the Army, and is available for use by all Departments and Agencies of the Department of Defense. 1. SCOPE 1.1 ScoDe. This specification covers the requirements for a liquid cooled, 4 cycle, 90 degree (“) V-type, 8 cylinder internal combustion, compression ign

3、ition engine. At 2600 revolutions per minute (rpm), the diesel engine is rated at 220 kilowatts (kW) (295 horsepower (hp). The diesel engine, and the associated accessories funiished by the engine supplier are referred to herein as “engine”. 2. APPLICABLE DOCUMENTS 2.1 General. The documents listed

In the event of a conflict between the text of this document and the references cited herein, the text of

19、this document takes precedence. Nothing in this document, however, supersedes applicable laws and regulations unless a specific exemption has been obtained. 3. REQUIREMENTS 3.1 First article. When specified (see 6.2), a sample shall be subjected to first article inspection in accordance with 4.3. 3.

20、2 Materials, design and construction. Materials shall be as specified herein and in referenced specifications, standards, and drawings. Engine construction and assembly shall be in accordance with Drawing 12325838 (see 4.6). 3.2.1 Recycled, recovered or environmentally meferable materials. Recycled,

21、 recovered, or environmentally preferable materials should be used to the maximum extent possible provided that the material meets or exceeds the operational and maintenance requirements, and promotes economically advantageous life cycle costs (see 4.6). 3.2.2 Weight. The dry weight of the engine as

22、 shown on Drawing 12325839 shall be not more than 1066 kilograms (kg) (2350 pounds (lb) (see 4.6). 3.2.3 Lifting eves. The engine shall be equipped with lifting eyes as shown on Drawing 12325839 (see 4.6). 3.2.4 Diagnostic test mint. The engine shall be provided with accessible test points for . tem

23、perature and pressure measurements in the air, fuel, cooling and lubrication system and rpm measurement as shown on Drawing 12325839 (see 4.6). 3.2.5 Starter. The engine starter shall conform to system requirements and shall operate at nominal voltage of 24 volts (V) direct current (dc) (see 4.6). 3

24、.2.6 Drain D1uB;s. Engine oil pan shall be equipped with a magnetic drain plug (see 4.6). 3.2.7 Oil level. Permanent markings shall be provided on the dip stick to indicate quantity of oil to be added when oil level has dropped to add mark (see 4.6). 4 Licensed by Information Handling Services MIL-D

25、TL-62462D 9999906 2074939 3T3 3.2.8 Interchanpreabilitv. To provide for interchangeability, the engine, including accessories, shall conform to this specification and to Drawing 12325839. Any changes affecting physical, functional or electrical interfaces shall require prior approval by the acquisit

26、ioning activity. All subassemblies having the same part number shail be functionally and dimensionally interchangeable (see 4.6). 3.2.9 Engine emissions. The engine shail be designed to comply with all applicable engine emission regulations in effect on the date of manufacture (see 4.6). 3.3 Perform

27、ance. 3.3.1 Engine Derformance. The following engine performance characteristics shall conform to figure 1 for those curves labeled “maximum”. Failure of any engine assembly to pass any of the specified tests shall be cause for the Government to refuse acceptance of the production quantity represented

40、, until action taken by the contractor to correct defects and prevent recurrence has been approved by the Government. 4.5 Test methods. 4.5.1 Leakage. Confomance to 3.3.3 shall be verified by examination for evidence of “leaks” or “drips” (see 6.3) during and after testing as specified herein. 4.5.2

41、 Environmental conditions. The engine shall be tested in accordance with the high temperature operation and low temperature storage procedures of MIL-STD-8 10 for conformance to 3.3.4. The following shall be incorporated into the procedures. a. High temperature. Raise the internal chamber temperatur

42、e to 49C (120F). Maintain internal chamber temperature for 6 hours at 49C (120F). Raise the internal chamber temperature to 71 “C (1 60F within a time period of 1 hours and then maintain at that temperature for 4 additional hours. Lower the internal chamber temperature to 49C (120F) within a time pe

43、riod of 1 hour. Repeat steps 3,4, and 5 two additional times (making a total of three 12 hour cycles). Adjust the internai chamber temperature to the highest operating temperature under which the test item is designed to operate and maintain until temperature stabilization of the test item is reache

44、d. b. Low temperature (operation procedure. if required. - Prepare for test. - Lower the internal chamber temperature to the storage temperature of -33C (-28F) and maintain for a period of 24 hours &er stabilization or for the period specified in the equipment specification. - Inspect. - Adjust the

45、internai chamber temperature to -32C (-25F) and maintain until temperature stabilization of the test item is reached. 4.6 Materiais. design and construction. Conformance to 3.2 through 3.3.2, and 3.3.5 through 3.5.2 shall be detemined by examination for the defects listed in table II and inspection

46、of contractor records providing proof or certification that the requirements have been met. Applicable records shall include drawings, specifications, design data, receiving inspection records, processing and quality control standards, vendor catalogs and certifications, industry standards, test rep

For acquisition purposes, the packaging requirements shall be as specified in the contract or order (see 6.2). When actual packaging of materiel is to be performed by DoD

48、 personnel, these personnel need to contact the responsible packaging activity to ascertain requisite packaging requirements. Packaging requirements are maintained by the Inventory Control Points packaging activity within the Military Department or Defense Agency, or within the Military Departments

49、System Command. Packaging data retrieval is available from the managing Military Departments or Defense Agencys automated packaging files, CD-ROM products, or by contacting the responsible packaging activity. 6.
