8、y samples shali then be combined in order to form a homogeneous composite sam- ple of twenty ounces and subjected t the tests specified in 4.3. If the composite sample fails to comply with any of the requirements specified, the lot shall be rejected. 4.3 Test methods and procedures. 4.3.1 Solidifica

9、tion point. Melt approxi- mately 50 grams (gm.) of the sample in a covered 250 miiiiters (mi.) beaker by im- mersing the beaker in a water bath at 90“ to 95C. for 15 minutes. The inner tube of the solidification apparatus shown on figure 1 shall be filled to within one and one haif inches of the top

10、 with the molten ethyl cen- tralite. The stirrer and thermometer shaU be placed in the tube and the tube and the con- tents placed in a water bath at 85“ to 90%. for five minutes. The tube shall be removed from the water bath and placed in the ap- paratus. The molten material shaii be stirred consta

Using a 76 millimeter partial immersion thermom- eter (American Standard Testin

12、g Method number 93CJ with a range of 60 - 9OoC., the temperature of the molten material shall be recorded every 30 seconds untii solidification begins as indicated by the temperature of the sample rising after it has reached a mini- mum, The stirring shall be continued until the temperature reaches

13、a maximum. 4.32 Melted mateW. The appearance of the melted material shall be determined vis- ually for compliance with the requirement specified herein. The examination shail be made during the test specified in 4.3.1. 4.3.3 Volatile matter. A weighed portion of approximately five (gm.) of the sampl

14、e shall be transferred to a tared shallow dish, heated for two hours at 600., cooled in a desiccator and weighed. The loss in weight sha be calcuiated as percentage of volatile matter in the sample. 4.3.4 Ash, A weighed portion of approxi- mately five gm, of the sample shall be trans- ferred to a ta

15、red porcelain or silica crucible and sufficient alcohol then added to cover the material, The mixture shall be ignited, allowed to burn down slowly and then heated to redness until aii carbon has been removed. Then, the mixture shall be cooled in a desic- cator and weighed, The gain in weight shall

16、be calculated as percentage of ash in the sample8 4.3.5 Secodurg and tertbqt amines. 4.3.6.1 Secondary amines, A weighed por- tion of approximately 26 gm. of the sample shall be transferred to an Erlenmeyer flask and dissolved with 30 mi, of benzene. Five mi. of an approximately 0.26 Noral (N) solut

17、ion of acetic anhydride in xylene shall be added. The flask shall then be stoppered and allowed to stand overnight. Twenty-five mi. of 0.1N sodium hydroxide solution shail be added, shaken thoroughly and transfer- red to a separatory funnel. The flask shall be 9 washed with distilled water and the w

18、ash- ings added to the contents of the funnel; Twenty-five ml. of O.1N hydroxhloric acid . shah be added, shaken and the aqueous layer then separated. The funnel shail be washed with siiccessive quantities of distilled water, adding the washings to the separated aqueous layer. The aqueous layer shal

19、l be titrated with 0.1N sodium hydroxide solution using the phenolphthalein as an indicator. At the same time, a blank determination shall be run through the complete procedure. The percentage of ethylaniline shdi be calculated as follows: I Percent ethylruiiline = 12.1 N B-(V-C) W - where: B = ml.

N= normality of sodium hydroxide solution. W = weight of sample. 4.3.5.2 Tertzm amines. Five gm. of the sample shall be di

21、ssolved in 20 mi. of ben- zene contained in a separatory funnel. Twenty mi, of 0.5 hydrochloric acid shal be added and the mixture shaken thoroughly. Two ml. of 1.0 sodium nitrate solution and sufcient water shall be added to the separated aqueous extract to make the total volume up to 60 mi. The so

22、lution shail be thoroughly mixed and allowed to stand for 30 minutes. By means of a colorimeter, the color of the test liquid shall be compared with that given in a blank determination in which 0,0010 gm. of diethylaniline (0.02 percent on a five gm. sample) is present. Calculate the percentage of d

A weighed portion of ap- proximately 25 gm. of the sample shall be placed in a flask and melted with 30 mi.

24、 of .hot distilled water. The mixture shail be nhaken vigorously until the ethyl centraiite crystalizes, The mixture shall be cooled and titrated with 0.1N sodium hydroxide solu- tion, using phenolphthalein as an indicator, At the same time, a blank determination shall be run and the volume of sodiu

25、m hydroxide used in titrating the sample corrected. Acidity shall be calculated as hydrochloric acid as follows: Hydrochloric Acid Percent = 3.65 VN . ( I. W where: i V= volume of Sodium Hydroxide used N = normality of the aikaii. W = weight of sample in gms. in titration. 4.3.7 Hydrolyzable chlorin

26、e compounds. .A five gm. portion of the sample shai be trans- ferred to a 150 ml. beaker. Ten mi. of a five percent solution of sodium ethylate in aico- hol shail be added and the solution heated on a steam bath for 15 minutes. Seventy-five mi. of distilled water shal be added to the contents of the

27、 beaker and sufficient time The solution shall be made acid to litmus with concentrated nitric acid and then filtered through a Number 41 Whatman Alter paper, or equavalent, into a 100 mi. Nessler tube. If not clear, the solution shall be refiltered. The beaker and Alter paper shall be washed with d

28、istiiied water untU the Nessler tube attains a volume of 100 ml. Five mi. to 10 percent silver nitrate shall be added, mixed thoroughly, and the solution shall be allowed to stand for one-half hour. Concurrent with the analysis, standard solutions (containing 0,001 percent and 0.002 percent sodium c

29、hlor- ide) shall be prepared as follows: 1.650 =c: 0.005 grams of reagent grade sodium chloride shall be transferred to a one liter volumetric flask, The flask shall be 61led to the mark ( 8 allowed for the ethyl centralite to crystalize, MlL-E-255A with distilled water and mixed weil. A 10 mi. aliq

30、uot shall be transferred to a second one liter volumetric flask, and 8180, a 20 mi. ali- quot shall be transferred to another one liter volumetric flask, brought to the mark with distilled water and mixed well. One hundred ml. of each chloride standard ah811 be trans- ferred to separate Nessler tube

31、s. A third tube shall contain 10 mi, of istilied water as a blank. Each standard solution in the Nader tubes shall be acidified (to litmus paper) with concentrated niM,c acid, and 6 mi. of 10 percent siiver nitrate solution shall be added to each tube, mixed well, and allowed to stand for 30 minutes

The turbidity of the sample mixture shall be compared with the standards by viewing downward against a well lighted white background. 4.3.8 Partick form. 4.3.a.i Screen test ( and shaken .for 10 minutes by hand -or.five minutes by. means of a mechanical shaker geared to produce 300 f 15 gyrations

33、and 160 f 10 taps of the striker per minute. The amount retained on the sieve (if any) shall be weighed and calculated in terms of percentage of material passing through the sieve. 4.3.8.2 Screen test (Class 3 only). The pro- cedure in 4.3.8.1 shai be followed except the screen shall be a US. Standa
