2、rmy, and is available for use by all Departments and Agencies of the Department of Defense. 1. SCOPE 1.1 Scope. This specification covers one type of virgin butyl rubber body for a grenade. 2 . APPLICABLE DOCUMENTS 2 .1 Government documents . 2.1.1 Standards. The following standards form a part of t

3、his specification to the extent specified herein. Unless otherwise specified, the issues of these documents shall be those listed in the issue of the Department of Defense Index of Specifications and Standards (DODISS) and supplement thereto, cited in the solicitation. Physical properties of the material for the rubber body assembly shall conform to the requirements and tests specified in table I. 3.1.1.3 Color. The color of the material after molding shall be a visual match to either gray,

8、36231, or green, 34558, FED-STD-595, as specified in the contract or order (see 6.2). 3.1.2 Components. 9、 m 7779706 0333828 3 m - - MIL-G-51349E( EA) 3.2 Assembly. The grenade body shall be assembled as shown on Drawing 13- 2 5-72 3.2.1 Bonding and assembly. The center seam of the body assembly and the bonds of the metal inserts to the upper and lower body hemispheres shall with- stand a pull force of

10、200 pounds minimum when tested in accordance with 4.4.4.3. (Conduct of this test shall be prior to cutting of the emission port hole. ) 3.3 Leakage. When tested in accordance with 4.4.4.2, the body assembly with- out emission port shal not leak, rupture, or separate when subjected to an internal pre

11、ssure of 20 - + 2 psig. 3.4 Emission port release. When tested in accordance with 4.4.4.4, the tape covering the emission port of the grenade body, when configured as shown on Drawing 13-25-72, shall not release when subjected to an internal pressure of 7.5 2 0.5 psig. 3.5 Permeability. The weight l

12、oss of pyrotechnic mixture within the body assembly shall not exceed 2 percent when tested in accordance with 4.3.2.2. 3.6 Preproduction. Prior to the start of regular production, a preproduc- tion sample of bodies and test slabs shall be produced in accordance with this specification for examinatio

13、n and test. 3.7 Workmanship. The body shall be free from imperfections listed in table I of MIL-STD-407 and damage such as rips, tears, or punctures which could -affect its intended use. 4. QUALITY ASSURANCE PROVISIONS 4.1 Responsibility for inspection. Unless otherwise specified in the con- tract o

14、r purchase order, the contractor is responsible for the performance of all inspection requirements as specified herein. in the contract or purchase order, the contractor may use his own or any other facilities suitable for the performance of the inspection requirements speci- fied herein, unless dis

15、approved by the Government. The Government reserves the right to perform any of the inspections set forth in the specification where such inspections are deemed necessary to insure that supplies and services con- form to prescribed requirements. Except as otherwise specified 4.1.1 Responsibility for

16、 compliance. All items must meet all requirements of sections 3 and 5. The inspection set forth in this specification shall become a part of the contractors overall inspection system or quality program. The absence of any inspection requirements in the specification shall not relieve the contractor

The supplier shall provide objective evidence acceptable to the contra

19、cting officer that the requirements of 3.1 and section 5 for which specific inspection has not been provided in this specification have been satisfied. 4.2 Classification of inspections. The inspection requirements specified herein are classified as follows: ( a) (b) Preproduction inspection ( see 4

20、 . 3). Quality conformance inspection ( see 4.4) . 4.3 Preproduction inspection. 4.3.1 Sampling. 4.3.1.1 Test slabs. A quantity of test slabs as spec fied in table II shall be made for testing. The test slabs shall be made from the same batch of rub- ber compound as the body halves, using the same m

Sampling shall be conducted

33、 in accordance with MIL-STD-105, level S-4 . (c) Grenade bodies - emission port release. Sampling shall be conducted in accordance with MIL-STD-105, level S-4. 4.4.3 Inspection procedure. 4.4.3.1 For examination and nondestructive test. The sample grenade bodies shall be examined in accordance with

34、the classification of defects and assigned AQLs . 4.4.3.2 For destructive tests. (a) Test slabs. The test slabs shall be tested in accordance with table I. The acceptance number is zero. (b) Body assemblies. The sample body assemblies shall be tested in accordance with 4.4.4.2 and 4.4.4.3 with an AQ

35、L of 1.0 percent defective for each test. (c) Grenade bodies - emission port release. The sample grenade bodies shall be tested in accordance with 4.4.4.4 with an AQL of 1.0 percent defective. 4.4.3.3 Classification of defects. Grenade body (Drawing 13-25-72) . TEST WTHOD STD. NO. 601 and the tensile stress at 200% elongation determined and recorded. (b) Tensile strength. Th

39、e slab shall be tested in accordance with method 4111 of FED. TEST METHOD STD. NO. 601 and the tensile strength at rup- ture determined and recorded. (c) Elongation. The slab shall be tested in accordance with method 4121 of FED. TEST METHOD STD. NO. 601 and the elongation at rugture determined and

40、recorded. (d) Hardness, shore A. The slab shall be tested in accordance with method 3021 of FED. TEST METHOD STD. NO. 601 and the hardness measured and recorded . (e) Tear strength, die C. The slab shall be tested in accordance with method 4211 of FED, TEST METHOD STD. NO. 601 and the tear resistanc

41、e deter- mined and recorded. (f) Flammability. The tip of a test slab (2-1/2 by i/4 by 1/8 inches) shall be held horizontally at the apex of a 2-1/2 inch blue inner flame of a Bunsen burner operating in a draft free enclosure. After i5 seconds, remove the slab from the flame, hold horizontally and r

42、ecord the time to self- ext ingui s h. 4.4.4.2 Leakage. The body assembly shall be fitted with a suitable adapter and closure plug and tested as follows: Immerse the body assembly in water at room temperature and subject it to the specified pneumatic pressure (see 3.3) for one minute. Units satisfac

43、torily tested shall be randomly selected for testing in accordance with 4.4.4.3. 4.4.4.3 Center seam and insert bonds. Body grenades shall be tested as fol- lows: Suitable threaded adapters shall be installed into the fuze and filling inserts of the body assembly. Using an appropriate tensile test a

44、pparatus, the assembly shall be tested at a jaw separation rate of 0 inches per minute. Record the load attained and nature of failure at center seam, or separation of either insert from the rubber sphere. 4.4.4.4 Emission port release. The grenade body, when configured as shown on Drawing 13-25-72,

45、 shall be fitted with a suitable adapter and closure plug. The grenade body shall then be subjected to the specified pneumatic pressure (see 3.4) for five seconds. release within this time.
