2、 the Department of Defense. 1. SCOPE 1.1 Scope. This specification establishes the performance, functioning, and quality assurance requirements for an air cooled, blow-back operated automatic weapon firing 40mm grenades from ground mounts and combat vehicles. 1.2 TvD. Weapons shall be of the followi

In the event of a conflict between the text of this specification and the references cited herein,(except for associated detail specifications, specification sheets or MS standards) the text of this sp

14、ecification takes precedence. Nothing in this specification, however, shall supersede applicable laws and regulation unless specific exemption has been obtained. 3. REQUIREMENTS 3.1 Mater ials a nd CO nst ruct 1 on. The machine gun and its parts shall conform to the material and construction require

15、ments specified herein, on Drawing (Dwg) 3269419, and drawings applicable thereto, and shall be in accordance with the applicable material and construction processes of MIL-W-13855. 3.2 Design. The machine gun and its parts shall conform to the design specified herein, all the requirements of Dwg. 3

16、269419, and drawings applicable thereto, and shall be in accordance with the applicable design provisions of MIL-W-13855. The machine gun shall successfully pass the pre-firing and post-firing inspections specified in 4.5.1 and 4.5.12, respectively. 3.3 Gu n siaht and bo re ca libration. When the ma

17、chine gun sight is properly calibrated, the vertical alignment guide on the target shall be parallel with the right hand side of the weapons sight frame, the boresight cross hairs shall be within the 1 inch diameter circle on the target and the line of sight for 300 meters and 1000 meters shall be w

18、ithin their respective line of sight target as specified on Dwg. 3269423. 3.4 Ammunition comDatibilitv. The machine gun shall be capable of being cycled with the M922 Cartridge, Dwg. 9275763, without binding, stoppage or excessive effort. 3.5 Performance c haracte ristics. The machine gun shall be c

19、apable of meeting the following requirements when the M383 cartridge (Dwg. 9241371), M385A1 cartridge (Dwg. 8886326), M430 cartridge (Dwg. 9287851) , or M918 cartridge (Dwg. 9399372) is fired from it. 3.5.1 Proof inspect ion. The machine gun shall withstand the firing of one M385A1 40mm cartridge wi

20、thout any evidence of part failure, deformation or loosening. 3.5.2 Firincr modes . The machine gun shall have a firing mode which is fully automatic with single shot firing achievable. When conditioned at -5OOF to +155F and fired, the machine gun shall not unintentionally stop or “run away“ (See 6

21、.7.1). 3.5.3 Belt pu 11. The machine gun shall be capable of functioning when a belt of 28 rounds freely hangs from it. The machine gun shall have a cyclic rate of fire from 325 to 375 rounds per minute for the M430 and M918 cartridges and 335 to 385 rounds per minute for M385A1 and M383 cartridges when fired from a M3 tripod mount. weapon

25、re the specified complement of rounds which shall hit a vertical target which is 14 meters square and placed at a distance of 1000 meters from the weapons muzzle. this distance and target size may be reduced if an equivalent test procedure is submitted by the contractor and approved by the Governmen

26、t. During testing the weapon shall not unintentionally stop or “run away“ (See 6.7.1) . 3.5.8 Reliabilitv- 3.5.8.1 Stoppages. The machine gun shall exhibit a Mean Rounds Between Stoppages (MRBS) of 1100 minimum at an 85% Confidence Level. A stoppage is defined as an unintentional interruption of fir

27、ing that takes less than 60 seconds to correct by immediate action or by minor adjustment. 3.5.8.2 Failures . The machine gun shall exhibit a Mean Rounds Between Failure (MRBF) of 3300 minimum at an 85% Confidence Level. A failure is defined as a stoppage that takes longer than 60 seconds to clear o

28、r repair. A failure is also defined as a run away“ or any kind of safety related defect (as determined by the Government). No failures of this type (“run away“ or safety) shall be permitted. 3.5.8.3 Barrel life . The machine guns barrel shall have a minimum life of 10,000 rounds. Barrel life shall h

29、ave been reached when the average muzzle velocity, periodically measured during the test, is less than that at the beginning of the test by more than ten times the standard deviation of the muzzle velocity at the beginning of the test. 3.5.8.4 Receiver life . The machine guns receiver shall have a m

30、inimum life of 25,000 rounds. Receiver life shall have been reached when material failures (cracks or breakage) occur in those areas of the receiver in which a potential safety hazard as determined by the Government could exist. 4 Provided by IHSNot for ResaleNo reproduction or networking permitted

Unless otherwise specified on the drawings, all parts and assemblies from prior and current manufactured guns and spare parts, shall be interchangeable. After interchange the machine gun shall be c

32、apable of meeting the requirements specified in 3.3 through 3.5.8.4 3.7 Marking. Each machine gun and each part for which marking is prescribed shall be clearly marked in accordance with MIL-STD-130. Each receiver shall be identified with a serial number which shall be assigned by the procuring acti

33、vity. 3.8 First a rticle insrect ion. When specified (see 6.21, a sample shall be submitted to first article inspection (see 6.3) in accordance with 4.3. 3.9 Workmanship. As prescribed in MIL-W-63150, the machine gun shall be manufactured and assembled with a quality of workmanship which assures fre

34、edom from any defect which might adversely affect life, strength or reliability. Particular attention shall be given to neatness and thoroughness of assembly and assurance against burrs, sharp edges, corrosion and foreign materials. Surfaces shall be continuous and free from pits, scratches and goug

35、es. Threaded fasteners shall be properly torqued in accordance with industry standards. All rivets shall be tight and properly swaged and headed. Unless otherwise specified, metal surfaces shall be in accordance with the applicable drawings as specified in the contractual document of which this spec

36、ification is a part. Components assembled using operations requiring staking, riveting or heading shall be touched-up in accordance with MIL-W-13855. 4, QUALITY ASSURANCE PROVISIONS 4.1 Respo nsibilitv for inspect ion. Unless otherwise specified in the contract or purchase order, the contractor is r

37、esponsible for the performance of all inspection requirements as specified herein. Except as otherwise specified in the contract or purchase order, the contractor may utilize his own or any other facilities suitable for the performance of the inspection requirements specified herein, unless disappro

38、ved by the Government. The Government reserves the right to perform any of the inspections set forth in the specification where such inspections are deemed necessary to assure supplies and services conform to prescribed requirements. In addition, unless specified herein or in the contract, the provi

39、sions of MIL-W-63150 apply and are hereby made a part of this detail specification. All items must meet all The inspection set forth in this requirements of sections 3 and 5. specification shall become a part of the contractors overall inspection system or quality program. The absence of any inspection requirements in the specification shall

41、 not relieve the contractor of the responsibility of assuring that all products or supplies submitted to the Government for acceptance comply with all requirements of the contract. Sampling in quality conformance does not authorize submission of known defective material, either indicated or actual n

42、or does it commit the Government to acceptance of any defective material. 4.2 Class ification of insnect ions . The inspection requirements specified herein are classified as follows: a, First Article Inspection (see 4.3) b. Quality Conformance Inspection (see 4.4) 4.3 First article inspect ion. 4.3

43、.1 Sub mission. The contractor shall submit a first article as designated by the Contracting Officer for evaluation in accordance with provisions of 4.3.2 unless otherwise specified in the contract. The first article sample shall consist of the following items in sample quantities as indicated. Part

Any test samples may be subjected, by the Government, to any or all of the examinations and tests specified herein, in the cont

45、ract or on the applicable drawings. 4-3.2.1 Inspect ion equ ipment . The inspection equipment required to perform the examinations and tests prescribed herein is described in the Inspection Method column in Table I. 4-3.3 Reject ion. If any component, assembly or weapon fails to comply with any of t

46、he applicable requirements, the first article sample shall be rejected, The Government reserves the right to terminate its inspection upon any failure of a weapon to comply with any of the stated requirements. In the event of rejection, the Government reserves the right to require the contractor to
