1、MILITARY SPECIFICATION INSIGNIA, DISTINCTIVE UNIT AND SHOULDER LOOP This specification is approved for use within the Department of the Army and is available for use by all Departments and Agencies of the Department of Defense 1. SCOPE 1.1 Scope. This specification establishes the requirements for d

2、istinctive r unit insignia (DU11 and shoulder loop insignia (SLI). s 1.2 Classification. The insignia covered by this specification shall be of the following types: Type I - Distinctive Unit Insignia Type II - Shoulder Loop Insignia ROTC 2. APPLICABLE DOCUMENTS 2,l Government documents. 2.1.1 Specif

3、ications and standards. Specifications and standards form a part of this specification to the extent specified herein. Unless otherwise specified, the issues of- these documents shall be those listed in the issue of the Department of Defense Index of Specifications and Standards (DODISS) and supplem

4、ent thereto, cited in the solicitation. In the event of a conflict between the text of this specification and the references cited herein (except for associated detail specifications, specificat

19、). Nickel for plating shall be the nickel plate normally used in commercial practice. 3.4.4 Solder. 3.4.4.1 Hard solder. Hard solder shall be silver solder having a melting point of not less than 1065 degrees F. 3.4.4.2 Soft solder. Soft solder shall be a tin-lead alloy having a melting point of not

20、 less than 375 degrees F. 3.4.5 Enamel. Enamel shall be a hard fired vitreous type enamel fused with metallic oxldes to produce the required color, shade, opacity or translucence. Enamel colors shall match the TIOH color chips specified and match the standard or approved guide sample, 3.4.6 Silver (

21、for plating). The silver for plating, when required, shall be not less than 99.0 percent pure silver. 3.4.7 Lacquer. synthetic lacquer. Soldered parts shall be completely joined without excess solder and all excess flux shall be removed, joints shall be clean, smooth and free from burned or reduced areas and complete contact shall be made between the soldered parts. used. 3.7.2.1 Device. When a device is sol

28、dered to the base, soft solder shall be 3.7.2.2 Prongs. The prongs for the attaching device shall be hard soldered or electronically fused to the insignia. 44、l insignia and a letter of authoriza- tion to manufacture will be issued to the contractor prior to production. The examination by TIOH shall be made on a completely finished insignia to ensure all provisions of this specification applicable to end product examination and test are met. A lead strike

Inspection shall be in accordance with the provisions set forth in MIL-STD-105, except where otherwise indicated. 4.4.1 Inspection conditions. Unless otherwise specified, all inspections shall be performed in accordance with the test

47、conditions specified herein. 4.4.2 Inspection for acceptance. Inspection shall be in accordance with the provisions set forth in MIL-STD-105, except where otherwise indicated. 4.4.2.1 Testing of components. In addition to the quality assurance provisions of the subsidiary specifications and drawings

48、, testing shall be performed on components and materials listed in table II for test characteristics shown therein.
