3、velopment Command, Department of the Army, and is available for use by all Departments and Agencies of the Department of Defense. 1. SCOPE. 1.1 Scope. This specification defines an installation fixture kit used in attaching the retrofit kit to the M60 series tank to which the mine clearing roller sy

4、stem is mounted. 2. APPLICABLE DOCUMENTS 2.1 Government documents. 2.1.1 Specifications and standards. In the event of a conflict between the text of this specification and the references cited herein, the text of this specification shall take precedence. 3. REQUIREMENTS 3.1 Description. Requirements for the installation

14、 fixture kit shall be in accordance with Top Assembly, TA13222E0009 and as specified herein. 3.1.1 Drawings. The drawings forming a part of this specification are end product drawings. No deviations from the prescribed dimensions or tolerances is permissible without prior approval of the contracting

15、 officer. Where tolerances could cumulatively result in incorrect fits, the contractor shall provide tolerances within those prescribed on the drawings to insure correct fit , assembly, and operation of the kit. Any data (e.g., shop drawings, layouts, flow sheets, processing procedures, etc.) prepar

16、ed by the contractor or obtained from a vendor to support fabrication and manufacture of the production item shall be made available, upon request, for inspection by the contracting officer or his designated representative. 3.2 First article (first produced kit). The contractor shall furnish one or

17、more kits as specified (see 6.21, for examination and testing within the time- frame specified (see 6.2), to prove that his production methods will produce kits that comply with the requirements of this specification. Examination and tests shall be as specified in Section 4 and shall be subject to s

18、urveillance and approval by the Government (see 6.3). 3.3 Material. Material shall be as specified on the applicable drawings. Materials not specified shall be selected by the contractor and shall be subject to all provisions of this specification (see 6.4) 3.4 Safety. Nonfunctional sharp edges, pro

19、jecting points, and excessive length of fastening devices shall be avoided. 3.5 Interchangeability. All parts having the same part number shall be Interchangeable parts are functionally and dimensionally interchangeable. defined as two or more like parts possessing such functional and physical chara

20、cteristics as to be equivalent in performance and durability and capable of being exchanged one for the other without alteration of the parts themselves or of adjoining parts and without selection for fit or performance. 3.6 Treatment and painting. The portions of the kit normally painted shall be c

21、leaned, treated, and painted in accordance with MIL-T-704, type A, color forest green. MIL-T-704 shall be insulated as specified. Nonpermissible galvanic couples (dissimilar metals) as defined in 3.7 Identification marking. The kit shall be identified in accordance with MIL-STD-130. The marking shal

The nomenclature and identification marking, as shown on the

23、drawings, shall be stenciled near the center of each fixture. The letters shall be gothic capitals, and the numerals shall be 2 inches high where space permits. 3.7.2 On small components, the stenciling shall be as large as practicable. Instruction plates. plate giving reference to the retrofit kit

24、installation manual. The instruction plate shall conform to MIL-P-15024/6. bolts, or rivets in a location where the plate will be both visible and legible. Each kit shall be equipped- with an instruction “he plate shall be attached by screws, 3.8 Workmanship. Each installation fixture shall be clean

25、 and free from sand, dirt, fins, pits, scale, corrosion, burrs, sharp edges, cracks, poor or unsound welds, or any other defects that could impair the mounting of the kit. 3.8.1 Metal fabrication. Metal used in fabrication shall be free of kinks The straightening of material shall be done by methods

26、 that and sharp bends. will not cause injury to the material. bends shall be made with controlled means to ensure uniformity of size and, shape. be allowed to cool by natural convection. External surfaces shall be free from burrs, sharp edges, and corners, except when sharp edges or corners are requ

27、ired or where they are not detrimental to safety. Corners shall be square and true. All Heated aluminum shall Precaution shall be taken to avoid overheating. 3.8.2 Welding. The surfaces of parts to be welded shall be free from rust, corrosion, scale, paint, grease, and mill scale that can be removed

28、 by chipping and wire brushing, and other foreign matter. without permanent deformation or failure when the parts connected by the welds are subjected toaproof and service loading. shall be brought into as close contact as possible and in no event shall be separated by more than 3/16 inch unless app

29、ropriate bridging techniques are used. The welding process used in fabrication of fixtures shall be in accordance with TA13222E0009. No deviations from these requirements are permissible without prior Government approval. Welds shall withstand stress Parts to be joined by fillet welds 3.8.2.1 Welder

30、s. by this specification, the contractor.shal1 provide the contracting officer with certification that the welder has passed qualification tests as prescribed by either of the following listed codes for the type of welding operations to be performed and that such qualification is effective as define

31、d by the particular code : Before assigning any welder to manual welding work covered AWS D1.l, Structural Welding Code, Section 5, Qualification, ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code, Section IX, Welding Qualifications. Contractors who make only horizontal welds need not qualify.welders for “all po

32、sition welding.“ Subject to approval by the Government, the contractors standard welder qualification may be substituted for the above codes provided that the contractors procedure is equivalent to the above codes, contractor shall be responsible for determining that automatic welding equip- ment op

33、erators are capable of producing quality welds in accordance with AWS or ASME codes. Inspect all welds with dye penetrant in accordance with M

34、IL-1-6866. No cracks are permissible. Workmanship specimens that are required by the applicable specifications shall be approved by quality assurance representatives of the contracting activity. . 4. QUALITY ASSURANCE PROVISIONS 4.1 Responsibility for inspection. Unless otherwise specified (see 6.2)

35、, the contractor is responsible for the performance of all inspection requirements as specified herein. Except as otherwise specified (see 6.2), the contractor may use his own or any other facilities suitable for the performance of the inspection requirements specified herein, unless disapproved by

36、the Government. Inspection records and examinations and tests performed by the contractor shall be kept complete and available to the Goverment for a period of 4 years following completion of the contract. “he Government reserves the right to perform any of the inspections set forth in this specific

37、ation where such inspections are deemed necessary to assure supplies and services conform to pr es cr i bed requirement s. 4.1.1 Component and-material inspection. The contractor is responsible for ensuring that components and materials used are manufactured, examined, and tested in accordance with

38、referenced specifications, standards, drawings, and tolerances as applicable. 4.1.2 Disassembly inspection. Failure of any examination or test by the initial production installation fixtures shall be cause for disassembly, in the presence of a Government representative, of the initial production ins

39、tallation fixtures to the extent necessary to determine the cause of the failure. Each disassembled part shall be examined in detail for compliance with this specifica- tion and referenced drawings in regard to materials, dimensions, tolerances, and workmanship. Parts not complying with such require

40、ments shall be rejected and shall be cause for rejection of the initial production installation fixtures. Reassembly with replacement parts and retesting shall be the responsibility of the contractor. 4.1.3 Parts and components. Upon fabrication, parts and components shall be inspected for complianc

41、e with the referenced specifications, standards, drawings, and tolerances as shown on the drawings. 4.2 Classification of inspections. Inspection shall be classified as follows: a. b. C. Inspection comparision (see 4.6). d. Initial production inspection (see 4.3). Quality conformance inspection (see

42、 4.4). Inspection of packaging (see 4.7). 4.3 Initial production inspection. When specified (see 6.31, one or more initial production kits from the first five units being fabricated by production - tooling will be selected by the Government for examination and tests. kits will be examined for compli

44、to the requirements of this specification. The inspection will be performed by the contractor at the contractors location and witnessed by Gpvernment inspectors. shall not exclude remaining kits from quality conformance inspections and acceptance provisions specified in 4.4. patt of the initial prod

45、uction test, the Government reserves the right to conduct any or all other tests contained in this specification as a part of the initiai production test. effect as failure of those tests specified as initial production tests. Acceptance of an initial production kit In addition to any test specified

46、 as Failure of such additional tests shall have the same 4.3.1 Inspection failure. Failure of an initial production kit to meet any requirement specified herein during, and as a result of, examination and tests specified in 4.3 and 4.4 shall be cause for rejection of the intitiai production installa

47、tion fixture and shall be cause for refusal by the Government to continue acceptance of production kits until evidence has been provided by the contractor that corrective action has been taken to eliminate the deficiencies. Correction of such deficiencies shall be accomplished by the contractor at n

48、o cost to the Government on installation fixtures previously accepted and produced under the contract. inspection will be considered prima facie evidence that all kits accepted prior to the completion of initial production inspection are similary deficient, unless evidence to the contrary is furnish

49、ed by the contractor and such evidence is acceptable to the contracting officer. Any deficiencies found as a result of the initial production 4.4 Quality conformance inspection. 4.4.1 Sampling. Sampling for examination and tests shall be in accordance with MIL-STD-105. 4.4.2 Examination. 4.4.2.1 Samples. Samples selected in accordance with 4.4.1 shall be examined Acceptable for the major and minor defects specified in column 3 of table I. quality level (AQL) shall be 2.5 percent defe
