SCOPE 1.1 Scope. This specificat

16、e event of a conflict between the text of this document and the references cited herein, the text of this document takes precedence. Nothing in this document, however, supersedes applicable laws and regulations unless a specific exemption has been obtained. 3. REQUIREMENTS 3.1 First article. When sp
17、ecified (see 6.21, a sample shall be subjected to first article inspection (see 6.31, in accordance with 4.3. 3.2 Material. The material shall conform to the applicable reference documents specified herein, (see 6.4). It is encouraged that recycled material be used when practical as long as if meets
18、 the requirements of this specification. 3.2.1 Aluminum alloy. Aluminum alloy sheet shall conform to alloy 2024-0 of QQ-A-250/4, or ASTM B 209 and heat treated to temper T42 after forming. 3 Licensed by Information Handling Services-. MIL-P-501 P 3.2.2 Steel alloy bar. Steel alloy bar shall conform
19、to the hot rolled condition (HR), composition 4140 of ASTM A 322 for the type II pin and composition 1040 of ASTM A 576 for the Type III pin. 3.2.3 Lacquer. Lacquer shall conform to either type 1 or 2, International Orange color No. 12197, Insignia Red color No. 11136 or Insignia White color No. 178
20、75, as applicable, of TT-L-32. 3.2.4 Enamel. Enamel shall conform to class A or B, composition G or L, International Orange color Nos. 12197-1 or 12197-2, Red color Nos. 11136 or 11105, or White color Nos. 37875 or 37886, as applicable, of TT-E-489. 3.3 Construction. The construction of the pins sha
21、ll conform to Drawings 5-4-121, 5-4-196 and 5-4-791, and as specified herein. 3.3.1 Type I pin. The type I pins shall be fabricated of aluminum specified in 3.2.1. After stamping but prior to forming, the blank shall conform to the dimensions shown on Drawing 5-4-121. After forming, the pin shall be
22、 heat treated-as required by QQ-A-25014 or ASTM B 209, except that each batch of heat treated pins shall be tested as specified in 4.4.2.3 for a minimum hardness of 61 on the Rockwell 30T scale in lieu of the tensile strength, yield strength, and elongation tests. 3.3.2 Type II pin. The type II pins
23、 shall be fabricated of steel specified in 3.2.2. The head portion or the complete type II pin shall be shaped by forging. The type II pin shall be air cooled after forging. The forging shall be free from any crack, seam, or lap when tested as specified in 4.4.5. Forge welding operation shall not be
24、 permitted. The center line axis of the finished type II pin shall not bow out of line more than 3/64 inch. After forging and air cooling, the pin shall be heat treated to a Rockwell C40-48 hardness at all depths when tested as specified in 4.4.5. 3.3.3 Type III pins. The type III pins shall be fabr
25、icated from steel specified in 3.2.2. The head of the pin or the complete pin shall be shaped by forging. The forging shall-be free from any crack, seam or lap when tested as specified in 4.4.5. Parting lines shall be trimmed smooth and resultant flat trim line shall have rounded edgqs. 3.4 Identifi
26、cation marking. Prior to finishing, pins shall be permanently and legibly marked with the letters “US“ and the manufacturers identification in accordance with MIL-STD-130 in the locations as shown on the applicable drawings referenced in section 2. The type II pin shall also be permanently and legib

All grinding, machining, removing of burrs, sharp edges and corners, trimming of forged parting lines, and marking operations shall be completed prior to finishin
28、g. 3.5.1 Pretreatment. 3.5.1.1 Type I pin. Prior to lacquering or enameling, the type I pin shall be prepared for painting in accordance with class 1 or 2 requirements of ASTM B 449. 3.5.1.2 Type II and Type III pins. Prior to lacquering or enameling, the type II and type III pins shall be cleaned a
29、nd treated by- any method or type in accordance with TT-C-490, except that the testing for salt spray resistance shall not be required. 3.5.2 Lacquering or enameling. After pretreatment, the pins shall be coated with lacquer or enamel as specified in 3.2.3 or 3.2.4. The coating shall be a smooth, un
30、iform dry film without areas of thin or no film, rust, corrosion, blisters, peels, cracks, sags, or soft runs. The color of the finish shall be orange for type I pin, red for the type II class A and type III pins, or white for the Type II class B pins. 3.6 Workmanship. The finished pins shall not be
31、 bent out of shape, twisted, fractured, or malformed. The pins shall be free from cracks and flares. Type I pins shall be free from any die mark, tool mark, and forming mark exceeding 1/32 inch in depth. Type II and type III pins shall be free from loose scale or scale pits exceeding 1/32 inch in de
32、pth. The finished pins shall conform to the quality of product established by this specification and the occurrence of defects shall not exceed the applicable acceptable levels. 4. QUALITY ASSURANCE PROVISIONS 4.1 Responsibility for inspection. Unless otherwise specified in the contract or purchase
33、order, the contractor is responsible for the performance of all inspection requirements (examinations and tests) as specified herein. Except as otherwise specified in the contract or purchase order, the contractor may use his own or any other facilities suitable for the performance of the inspection
34、 requirements specified herein, unless disapproved by the Government. The Government reserves the right to perform any of the inspections set forth in this specification where such inspections are deemed necessary to ensure supplies and services conform to prescribed requirements. 5 Licensed by Info
35、rmation Handling ServicesMIL-P-501 P 4.1.1 Responsibility for compliance. All items shall meet all requirements of sections 3 and 5. The inspection set forth in this specification shall become a part of the contractors overall inspection system or quality program. The. absence of any inspection requ
36、irements in the specification shall not relieve the contractor of the responsibility of ensuring that all products or supplies submitted to the Government for acceptance comply with all requirements of the contract. Sampling inspection, as part of manufacturing operations, is an acceptable practice
37、to ascertain conformance to requirements, however, this does not authorize submission of known defective material, either indicated or actual, nor does it commit the Government to accept defective material. 4.1.2 Responsibility for dimensional requirements. Unless otherwise specified in the contract
38、 or purchase order, the contractor is responsible for ensuring that all specified dimensions have been met. When dimensions cannot be examined on the end item, inspection shall be made at any point, or at all points in the manufacturing process necessary to ensure compliance with all dimensional req
39、uirements. 4.2 Classification of inspections. The inspection requirements speciied herein are classified as follows: a. First article inspection (see 4.3) b. Quality conformance inspection (see 4.4) 4.3 First article inspection. When a first article is required (see 3.1 and 6.2), it shall be examine
40、d for the defects specified in 4.4.3 and 4.4.4 and shall be tested or the charactertistics specified in 4.4.5. Any nonconformance shall be cause for rejection of the first article. 4.4 Quality conformance inspection. Unless otherwise specified, sampling for inspection shall be performed in accordanc
41、e with MIL-STD-105. 4.4.1 Component and material inspection. In accordance with 4.1, components and materials shall be inspected in accordance with all the requirements of referenced documents unless otherwise excluded, amended, modified, or qualiied in this specification or applicable purchase docu
42、ment. 4.4.2 In-process inspection. Inspection of subassemblies shall be made to ascertain that construction details which cannot be examined in the finished product are in accordance with specified requirements. The Government reserves the right to exclude from consideration for acceptance, any mate
43、rial or service for which in-process inspection has indicated nonconformance. 4.4.2.1 In-process dimensional examination. An in-process dimensional examination shall be made of type I pin blanks to determine compliance with 3.3.1. Any dimension that is not within the specified requirements shall be
44、6 Licensed by Information Handling Servicesclassified a defect. The lot shall be type I pin blanks. The sample unit shall be one type I pin blank. The inspection level shall be S-2 and the acceptable quality level (AQL), expressed in terms of defects per hundred units, shall be 4.0. 4.4.2.2 In-proce
45、ss examination. Examination shall be made of the fabrication processes in table I to establish conformance with specified requirements. Whenever nonconformance is noted, correction shall be made to the process and all items processed. Items which cannot be corrected shall be removed from production.

Prior to finishing of the type I pins, testing shall be performed in accordance with ASTM E 18 to determine compliance with 3.3.1. The lot shall be all of the pins in each batch of the heat treated type I pins.
49、 The sample unit shall be one pin. The inspection level shall be S-1 and the AQL, expressed in terms of defects per hundred units, shall be 6.5. Three determinations shall be made on each sample unit and the hardness shall be reported as the average of the three readings to the nearest appropriate Rockwell scale value.
