SCOPE 1.1 This specification covers one type of potassium 4, 6-Dinitro-7-hydroxy-7-hydrobenzofuroxan, an initiating explosive, intended for use in ammunition (see 6.4). 2. APPL

REQUIREMENTS 3.1 Material.-The KDNBF shall meet the requirements of this specification and shall have been tested within 90 days prior to shipment. The KDNBF shall be krystalline material having the empiric

8、al formula CgH3N407K and shall conform to the physical/ functional/chemical requirements which follow when determined as specified in applicable paragraphs of 4.4 (See 6.6). The manufacturing process shall use raw materials of no lesser purity $han those specified in 6.5. The suggested process of ma

10、2 I MIL-F-o (xu) 3.1.2 Forms.-XDNBF shall be in the form of plate-like crystals (See figures 3 and 4) wnen determined as specified in 4.4.2. In addition, the dried XDNBF powder shall be easily dispersable in the functioning test described in 4.4.9. 3.1.3 Granulation.-The KDNBF shall conform to the g

12、erial when tested in accordance with the method specified in 4.4.5 shall not liberate more than 1.0 milliliter (mi) of gas. 3.1.5 Nitrogen.-The nitrogen content of the compound shall be 19.75 - + 0.20 percent, when determined as specified in 4.4.6. 3.1.6 Differential Thermal Analysis (DTA).-The DTA

13、graph of the tested KDNBF sample shall show only one major exotherm and that exotherm shall occur between 21OOC ana 225OC when tested as Specified in 4.4.7. 3.1.7 Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR),-The NMR spectra of the tested KDNBF sample shall have five (5) distinct peaks one each at 5.77, 5.93, 6

14、.13, 6.27 and 8.63 pprn. The average amplitude of the peaks at 5.93 and 6.13 ppm shall be greater then thirty (30) percent of the peak at 8.63 ppm. In addition, there shall be no peak at 9.22 ppm greater than five (5) percent of the peak at 8.63 ppm when tested in accordance with paragraph 4.4.8. 3

16、ssure rise) within the limits of 1.0 - 1.2 milliseconds after flow of current througn the bridgewire is started. In at least 9 out of the 10 plugs, 90 percent of the maximum pressure rise shall be obtained within 3.5 milliseconds. In the remaining plug 90 percent of the maximum pressure rise shall b

17、e obtained within 4.0 milliseconds. In seven (7) of the ten (10) plugs, the maxiir.um pressure obtained shall be between 32.5 and 59.5 pounds per square inch/milli- gram/milliliter (psi/mg/ml). In the remaining three (3) plugs, the maximum pressure obtained shall be 27.0 psi/mg/ml, mininum. (NOTE: I

18、n case of failure a retest of twenty (20) additional plugs shall be made and all twenty plugs shall pass the requirement as described above.) 3.1.9 Solids content of supernatant storage liquid.-The solids content of the supernatant liquid in which the KDNBF is packaged shall not exceed 0.30 grams pe

19、r 100 ml (0.3 g/100 mi) and 0.5 percent of the KDNBF contained therein when determined as specified in 4.4.10 (See 4.3.2). 3.2 Workmanship.-The material shall be processed in a manner that will produce the high quality material necessary to meet the requirements of this specification. The material s

20、hall be free of dirt, chips, and other foreign matter. 3.3 First article testing.-This specification makes provisions for first article testing. Submission of first article quantity by the contractor shall be as specified in the contract. 4. QUALITY ASSURANCE PROVISIONS 4.1 Responslbility for Inspec

21、tion.-Unless otherwise specified in the contract or purchase order, the supplier is responsible for the performance of all inspection requirements as specified herein. Except as otherwise specified in the contract or order, the supplier may use his own or any other facilities suitable for the perfor

24、ed lot of product is submitted to the Government for acceptance, the contractor shall supply the following information accompanied by a certificate which attests that the informatioii provided is correct and applicable to the product being submitted: a. A statement that the lot complies with all req

25、uirements and quality assurance provisions specified in this specification. b. Specification number and date, together with an identification and date of changes. C. Certificates of analysis on all materials used directly by the contractor when such material is controlled by Government specification

26、s shall be made available upon request by the Contracting Officer. d. Quantity of product in the lot. e. Date submitted. The certificate shall be signed by a responsible agent of the certifying organization. The initial certificate submitted shall be substantiated by evidence of the agents authority

27、 to bind his principle. Substantiation of the agents authority will not be required with subsequent certificates unless, during the course of the contract, this authority is vested in another agent of the certifying organization. 4.2 First Article Inspection 4.2.1 Submission.-The contractor shall su

28、bmit a first article sample consisting of 20 grams of potassium 4, 6-dini- trobenzofuroxan in accordance with instructions issued by the Contracting Officer for evaluation in accordance with paragraph 4.2.2. All samples submitted shall have been produced by the contractor using the same production p

29、rocesses, procedures, and equipment as will be used in fulfilling the Contract. All materials, including packaging and packing, shall be obtained from the same sources of supply as will be used in regular production. The sample shall be accompanied by certificates of analysis. A first article quanti

30、ty, or portion thereof, as directed by the Contracting Officer, shall also be submitted whenever there is a lapse in production for a period in excess of 90 days, or whenever a change occurs in manufacturing supply 5 Provided by IHSNot for ResaleNo reproduction or networking permitted without licens

Prior to submission, the contractor shall inspect the sample to the degree necessary to assure that it conforms to the requiremenzs of the c

32、ontract and submit a record of this inspection with the sarnpl-e. A sample containing known defects will not be submitted unless specifically authorizea by the Contracting Officer. 4.2.2 Inspections to be performed.-The sample will be subjected by the Government to any or all of the examinations or

33、tests specified in 4.3 and 4.4 of this specification and any or all requirements of the applicable drawings. 4.2.3 Rejection.-If any sample fails to comply with any of the applicable requirements, the first article quantity shall be rejected. The Government reserves the right to terminate its inspec

34、tion upon any failure of a sample to comply with any of the stated requirements. In the event of rejection, the Government reserves the right to require the contractor to take corrective action and submit a new first article quantity or portion thereof. Until a first article quantity is accepted, th

35、e contractor is in no way authorized by the Government to resume regular production unless otherwise directed by the Contracting Officer. 4.3 inspection Provisions 4.3. Lot formation.-The lot shall be one batch of KDNBF of the same type from one individual lot of dinitrobenzo- furoxan produced by on

36、e manufacturer in accordance with the same specification, or same specification revision under one continuous set of operating conditions. Each batch (lot) shall consist of that quantity of KDNBF that has been subjected to the same unit chemical recrystallization process intended to make the final p

37、roduct homogeneous. The product shall be submitted for inspection in accordance with MIL-STD-105 (or Standard MIL-STD-1235 when applicable) . 4.3.2 Sampling.-Select approximately a 20 gram sample of the KDNBF material after all processing procedures have been completed and the lot has been mixed and

38、 is ready for packaging. This sample shall be used for all tests depicted in 4.4 except 4.4.10. supernatant alcohol shall be removed from tne packaged KDNBF no sooner than five (5) days prior to shipment and this sariple shall be tested in accordance with 4.4.10. (XOX: Repiace Lhe methanol sample removed from the container with additional absolute methanol) . 4.4 Test Methods and Procedures 4.4.1 Color, Major Defect, Defect Code No. 01001.-Take four (4) portions of about 2 mg each from the sample and spread the examination sample over an area of about 8 sq

41、. cm. of glass slide. Examine the material for color under a magnifying glass using daylight illumination to determine compliance with 3.1.1. 4.4.2 Form, Major Defect, Defect Code No. 02001.-Examine the material prepared in 4.4.1 under a microscope using a magnification of 150X (100-300) and reflect

42、ed light. Scan the slide to determine compliance with 3.1.2. - 4.4.3 Bulk Density, Major Defect, Defect Code No. 03001.- The bulk density of the compound shall be determined in accordance with Method 201.2 of Standard MIL-STD-650 except that a 25 ml graduated cylinder and absolute methanol as the so

43、lvent shall be used . 4.4.4 Granulation, Major Defect, Defect Code No. 04001.-The slurry from 4.4.3 shall be used for this test. to the nearest .O01 g the required (approximately 3 inch diameter) plastic sieves. Nest the series of sieves in increasing order of fineness with the coarsest sieve on top

44、 so that the material passing through a sieve is transferred directly to the next- sieve in the series. Tape the joints between the sieves to make then air tight. Place the sieves on a sheet of No. 1 filter (fast) paper in a close fitting (approximately 90 mm) buchner funnel which is held in a 500 m

45、l vacuum flask. Wet the assembly with 25 ml of methanol, turn on the vacuum and transfer the slurry (see 4.4.3) onto the No. 50 sieve. (NOTE: The slurry shall be thoroughly stirred before transfer). Continue to aspirate until the stack of sieves are nearly dry. Dry the sieves and contents in an oven

49、he Microchemical (Dumas) Method appearing in a standard or reference chemical instrumentation textbook.
