When specified (see 6.21, a sample shall be subject
20、ed to first article inspection (see 6.3) in accordance with 4.3. 3.2 Guide sample. Guide samples, when furnished, are solely for guidance and information to the contractor (see 6.4). Variation from this specifi- cation may appear in the sample, in which case this specification shall govern. * 3.3 Ma
21、terials and components. Materials and components shall be as specified on the applicable drawings and as specified herein. For materials U or components for which it is stated “or equal,“ if the contractor proposes to use an item considered to be equal to the material or component specified, prior t
22、o its use the contractor shall furnish a sample of the material or component, with supporting data to the contracting officer for subsequent evaluation by the responsible military agency. It is encouraged that recycled material be used when practical as long as it meets the requirements of this spec
23、ification, 5;. 3.3.1 Fastener, steel. The steel fastener specified in Drawing 2-2-416 for the waist strap shall conform to Acorn Metal Products Co., Part Nos. C-103 and A-101; Brookside Manufacturing Co., Part No. 920; State Machine Products, Part No. SMP-1; State Recreation Inc., Part No. SR-1; ITW
24、 Waterbury Co., Part No. 917; or equal. e 3.3.1.1 Finish, steel fastener. The rivets shall be given a black oxide coating conforming to class 2, 3, or 4, as applicable, of MIL-C-13924. The two lever components of the fastener shall be given a phosphate treated zinc plating conforming to type IV fini
25、sh, service condition SC3 of ASTM B 633 followed by baked enameling. The baked enamel shall conform to type I or II of TT-E-529, color black. The coating on all components shall be applied prior to assembly and shall level out to a smooth and uniform film without orange peel, wrinkles, drops, streak
26、s, or areas of no film (see 4.4.1.1). 3.3.1.2 Epoxy powder coating. As an alternate to the coating, zinc plating, and enameling specified in 3.3.1.1, the surfaces may be prepared and coated as follows: a. The rivets and two lever components of the fastener shall be prepared for coating by mechanical
27、 means. The surfaces shall be thoroughly and uniformly textured by sand blasting with 80-grit aluminum oxide. 28、 subsequent handling. clean implements. The surfaces shall be retained in a clean environment. The surface shall be epoxy coated not more than 8 hours after sand blasting. 30、pecified in ASTM D 1005. e. The final coating shall be smooth and uniform in appearance, free from wrinkles and streaks (see 4.4.1.1). f: 3.3.2 Buckle, 2 inch, siderelease. The 2 inch plastic buckle specified on Drawing 2-2-416 for the waist strap shall conform to ITW Fastex Co., part No. SR-2D or e
31、qual. The material for the buckle shall be black Delrin. The buckle shall be rated at 250 pound tension (see 4.4.1.1). 3.3.2.1 Regrounds. Clean, unburned plastic material in the form of imperfect parts, sprues, runners, or other scraps of the same composition produced in the molding or finishing ope
32、ration may be reground and mixed with the virgin material. When reground is mixed with the virgin material, the reground shall not exceed a level of 15 percent by weight of the blended mixture. The molding material may contain a surface lubricant. 3.3.3 Clip, retainer. The retainer clip for the quic
33、k release assembly on the shoulder strap shall conform to Drawing 8-2-550 and shall be made from .virgin acetal molding compound conforming to ASTM D 4181 except that the electrical property requirements shall not apply. Clean, unburned plastic material in the form of imperfect parts, sprues, runner
34、s, or other scraps of the same composition, produced in the molding or finishing operation, may be reground and mixed with the virgin material. virgin material, the reground shall not exceed a level of 15 percent by weight of the blended mixture. The molding material may contain a surface lubricant.
35、 When reground is mixed with the 3.3.3.1 Color and finish. The color of the finished clip shall be black, The clip shall have a lusterless or dull finish on all surfaces. The finish shall be produced as a result of the molding operation and not by application of any protective coating, lacquer, or o
36、ther materials. The parts shall be clean, smooth, and free from cracks, dirt, sink marks, and flash. All gates shall be trimmed flush with the molding surfaces, 3.3.4 Frame, pack (for item 5). The pack frame, when required, shall conform to MIL-F-43834 and shall be furnished without the cargo suppor

The construction of the straps shall conform in all respects to the drawings listed in section 2 and as specified herein. 3.
38、4.1 Stitching. All stitches, except bartacking, shall conform to type 301 of FED-STD-751. The stitches per inch shall be as follows: For all stitching except stitching to be sewn through foam pad For stitching required to be stitched through foam pad 8-10 stitches per 6-8 stitches per stitch inch nc
39、h 3.4.1.1 Type 301 stitching. Ends of stitching shall be backstitched or overstitched not less than 1 inch (1/2 inch for box-X and W-W stitching) except where ends are turned under or caught in other seams or stitching. Thread tensions shall be maintained so that there will be no loose bobbin or top
40、 thread or excessively tight stitching resulting in loose bobbin or top thread or excessively tight stitching resulting in puckering of the materials sewn. The inter lock shall be embedded in the materials sewn. 3.4.1.1.1 Repairs of type 301 stitching. Repairs of type 301 stitching shall be as follo
41、ws: a. When thread breaks or bobbin run-outs occur during stitching, the stitching shall be repaired by restarting the stitching a minimum of 1 inch (1/2 inch for box-X and W-W stitching) back of the end of the stitching. b. Thread breaks or two or more consecutive skipped or run-off stitches noted
42、during inspection of the item (in-process or end item) shall be repaired by overstitching. The stitching shall start a minimum of 1 inch in back of the defective area (1/2 inch for box-X and W-W stitching), continue over the defective area, and continue a minimum of 1 inch beyond the defective area
43、onto the existing stitching. Loose or excessively tight stitching shall be repaired by removing the defective stitching, without damaging the materials, and restitching in the required manner. When damaged thread has been removed, needle holes do not constitute damage to the material. (When making t
44、he above repairs in a. and b. above, the ends of the stitching are not required to be backstitched.) 3.4.1.2 Bartacks, Unless otherwise specified, bartacks shall be as specified on the applicable drawing and as follows: Leng th 1/2 inch 2 1/16 3/4 inch 2 1/16 Width 1/8 inch 2 1/32 1/8 inch 2 1/32 St

Automatic stitching machines may be
46、used to perform any of the required stitch patterns provided the requirements for the stitch pattern, stitches per inch, and size and type of thread are met; and at least three or more tying, overlapping, or back stitches are used to secure the ends of stitching. 3.4.1.4 Thread ends. All thread ends
47、 that are visible on the finished item shall be trimmed to a length of not more than 1/4 inch. 3.4.2 Setting of snap fasteners. A hole shall be prepunched to receive the button and eyelet components of the snap fasteners. The hole shall be smaller than the outside diameter of the button and eyelet b
48、arrels so that the barrel must be forced through the hole. 49、ly 3.4.3 Setting of eyelets. Holes shall be prepunched to receive the eyelets. The hole shall not be punched in the setting operation with the eyelet barrel.
