2、r the use of all Federal. agencies. 1. SCOPE 1.1 Scope. This specification covers genetal-purpose, 2-part adhesives, or optionally a 1-part adhesive for type III (see 3.1.1), for wood assembly gluing. The adhesives are for the manufacture of laminated members and other wooden articles where a high-s

3、trength, durable adhesive is required. 1.2 Classification. 1.2.1 Types, grades, and cla.sses*. The adhesive covered by this specification shall be of the following types, grades, and classes (see 6.2) : Type I - Room-temperature setting (24O .to 35OC (75O to 95OF) glue-line temperature. Grade A - Tw

REQUI- 3.1 Material, The material used in the manufacture of the adhesive shall 3.Ll The adhesive shall be furnished as a liquid with separate hardener, be such as to produce finished adhesive conforming to this specification

19、. or when specified (see 6.2) I as a powder with separate hardener. The hardener for the type 111 adhesive may be incorporated as a component part of the resin. 3.2 Resins, used in mking the adhesive, 3.3 Insoluble matter, The quantity of insoluble matter, irrcluding filler and any insoluble partial

20、ly polymerized resin, shall be not more than 20 per- cent ky weight of the nonvolatile constituents of the adhesive when mixed and reay or use (see 4.5.1). Hardener shall be supplied in either powder or liquid form. Where the hardener is furnished in powder form, it may be combined with part or ail

21、of the-filler. The hardener shall be mixed with the adhesive prior to application to the joint. Only resins based on phenol, melamine, or resorcinol shall be 3.4 Hardener. 3.5 Filler, Where filler is used it shall be an inert, insoluble powder The imagmble of being dissolved in or being swelled exce

The curing cycle of the mixed adhesives to cure to the hardened state or the tests specified in 4.5.6 and 4.5.7 shall be as follows: Type I - The curing

25、 cycle of type I adhesive shall be in accordance Type II - Thecuring cycle of type II adhesive shall be not longer with 4.5.6.1.1 or 4.5.7.1.1, as applicable. than 5 hours and with a temperature not higher than 88% (190OF) measured in the adhesive line. 26、ive shall be not longer than 5 hours and with a temperature riot higher than 149OC (300%) measured in the adhesive line. 3.10 Shear strength by compression loading (type I and II only). The types I and II adhesive shall develop an average-shear strength of not less than 19.210 MPa (2,800 psi), using

27、 hard-maple blocks when tested as specified in 4.5.6. 3.11 Plywood shear strength. 3.11.1 Dry. than 2.76 MPa (400 psi) when tested as specified in 4.5.7.2. The adhesive shall. develop an average strength of not less 3.11.2 Wet. - The adhesive shall develop an average strength of not less than 2.76 M

28、Pa (400 psi) when tested as specified in 4.5.7.3. 3.12 Instrcictions. (e) In addition, each tag or label shall contain the fllowing: “Due to the sensitivity of the adhesive to extremes of temper- ature, it is recommended that the adhesive be kept out of the sun. All

32、adhesive held in stock should be kept dry, tightly covered, an where practicable, at temperature below 27% (80OF) “Avoid inhaling vapors generated while mixing 2-part adhesive. “SKIN AND EKE IRRITANT - This material is irritating to the skin. 35、hs from date of manufacture Grade E - 12 months from date of manufacture 3.14 Storage life. The adhesive shall be suitable for use and shall meet 3.15 Certification. When specified, the contractor shaU. submit to the procuring agency a letter stating that the resins comply with 3,3 and that storage

37、Y ASSURANCE PROVISIONS 4.1 Responsibility for inspection. Unless otherwise specified in the con- tract or purchase order, the contractor is respnsible for the performance of all inspection requirements as specified herein, 4,2 , Unless otherwise specified by the procuring agency, for purpses of samp

38、ling, a lot shall consist of adhesive of one component, typ, grade and class, manufactured at ow time, as one batch and offered for delivery at one time. When material cannot be identifid by batch, a lot shall consist of not more than 1125 kg (2,500 pounds) of adhesive of one component, type, grade

A random sample of filled containers shall be selected for examination

A representative .95 liter (1 quart) sample of adhesive and a sufficient quantity of hardener shall be taken from each lot. the tests shall be performed on this sample. Mix at least 100 g of adhesive accordirg to the manufacturers directions, weighing to the nearest 0.01 g. mately 10 g of fine, oven-dried, quartz sand in a Petri dish together with a small glass stirring rod, and wei

43、gh the dish and its contents to the nearest milligram (mg) on an analytical balance; add approximatey 2 g of the mixed adhesive, and weigh again to the nearest q. Mix the adhesive and sand inti- mately by means of the stirring rod, and distribute uniformly over the bottom of the dish in as thin a la

Weigh approximately 2 g of the freshly mixed adhesive to the nearest q in a 100 milliliter (mi.) beaker: add 50 mi of absolute Ethyl alcohol; stir

46、 for 3 minutes; then filter through a previously weighed, sintered-glass crucible of medium porosity. Transfer all residue to the filter with a second 50-nl portion of methyl alcohol; wash the. crucible and residue with approximately 30 mi. more of alcohol; dry for 2 hours in an oven at looo+ 5% (21

Weigh approximately 2 g of the freshly mixed adhesive to the nearest nq in a lOO-ml beaker; add 50 mL of a solvent composed of 20 parts of glacial acetic acid, 20 parts of 95-percent ethyl alcohol,

49、and 60 parts of distilled water by volume, minute, then add 0.5 g of diatomaceous earth1 (previously acid-washed, oven dried at LOOo+ 5% (2125 9oF) and stored in a desiccator). Continue athe stirring 2 minutes longer, then filter through a previously weighed, sintered-glasc, crucible of medium porosity. Wash all residue remaining in the beaker onto the filter with at least 30 ml of the solvent, then wash with c
