Mechanical Requirements6.1 Breaking StrengthThe metallic-coated steel wire ropeshall conform to the mechanical properties in Table 3 whentested in accordance with Test Methods and Definitions A370and employing a
11、 suitable gripping device as covered inSupplement VII of Test Methods and Definitions A370.6.2 ConstructionThe metallic-coated wire rope and indi-vidual wires shall conform to the dimension and constructionrequirements of Table 3.6.3 Ductility of SteelThe individual metallic-coated wiresshall be cap
12、able of being wrapped two turns in a close helix ata rate not exceeding 15 turns per minute around a cylindricalsteel mandrel equal to three times the nominal diameter of thewire under test without cracking or breaking of the wire.6.4 Weight of Zinc Coating or Zinc-5 % Aluminum-Mischmetal AlloyThe c

16、ires for the specified class andappropriate wire size shall not be less than that specified inTable 1 or Table 2 when tested in accordance with the strippingtest of Test Method A90/A90M.6.5 Adherence of CoatingThe individual metallic-coatedwires shall be capable of being wrapped two turns in a close
17、helix at a rate not exceeding 15 turns per minute around acylindrical steel mandrel equal to three times the nominaldiameter of the wire under test without the coating cracking orflaking to such an extent that any zinc or Zinc-5 % Aluminum-Mischmetal Alloy can be removed by rubbing with barefingers.
18、 Loosening or detachment during the adherence test ofsuperficial small particles of zinc or Zinc-5 % Aluminum-Mischmetal Alloy formed by mechanical polishing of thesurface of metallic-coated wire shall not be considered causefor rejection.6.6 AppearanceThe individual wires shall be cylindricalin for
19、m, of uniform quality, and free of imperfections notconsistent with good commercial practice. The coating shall becontinuous and reasonably uniform.7. Wire Rope7.1 The wire rope shall be right regular lay, preformed, andof the type of construction shown in Table 3. A right lay isdefined as a clockwi
20、se twist away from the observer. The typeof construction shall be specified by the purchaser.8. Joints and Splices8.1 Individual WiresThe distance between joints in anytwo individual wires in a strand shall be not less than 18 in.(460 mm). Joints in individual wires shall be either butt-weldedor bra
21、zed-lap type. Joints made by butt welding shall have allflash removed. When the brazed-lap type of joint is used, thelength of the lap shall be not less than three times the diameterof the wire and the overlapping faces shall be smooth, clean,properly fluxed, and completely covered by the brazing me
22、tal.All joints shall be recoated after welding so that the joints shallhave protection from corrosion equivalent to the metallic-coated wire itself.8.2 Strand or RopeStrand or rope splices may only bemade when authorized in writing by the purchaser.9. Sampling and Testing9.1 One wire rope test speci

31、ng for compliance with 6.2, 6.3, 6.4, and 6.5.9.4 If an individual wire or the rope fails to meet anyrequirements of this specification, that reel shall be rejectedand two additional tests shall be made on samples of wire ropefrom two different reels in the lot. If failure occurs in either ofthese t
32、ests, the lot of wire rope shall be rejected. The lot maybe resubmitted for inspection after testing every reel for thecharacteristic in which the specimen failed and sorting out thedefective reels.10. Inspection10.1 All tests and inspection shall be made at the place ofmanufacture unless otherwise
33、specified and shall be so con-ducted as not to interfere unnecessarily with the operation ofthe works. The manufacturer shall afford the inspector repre-senting the purchaser all reasonable facilities to satisfy him thatthe material being furnished is in accordance with this speci-fication. When spe
34、cified, inspection may be waived and certi-fied copies of test reports furnished. The purchaser reserves theright to test individual wires for compliance to 6.2, 6.3, 6.4, and6.5, and the metallic-coated wire rope after fabrication.11. Packaging11.1 Current standard practice is to ship the wire rope
35、 onwooden reels. Each reel shall have the length, nominal diam-eter, type of strand construction, weight of rope, and name ortrademark of the manufacturer plainly and indelibly marked ona strong tag, firmly attached, or this information shall bepainted on the reel. The wooden reel shall be mountable
36、 so thatit will revolve and the rope will run off by pulling straightahead.12. Fittings12.1 The fittings shall be of the design called for in the plansand shall have the properties necessary to develop the strengthof the wire rope.12.2 Fittings as shown in the plans shall have a uniformcoating of zi
37、nc conforming to Specifications A123/A123M orA153/A153M, whichever applies.13.
