Material and Manufacture4.1 The steel shall be produced by any of the followingprimary processes: (1) basic oxygen, and (2) ele
11、ctric furnace orvacuum induction (VIM). The primary melting may incorpo-rate separate degassing or refining and may be followed bysecondary melting by the electrode slag process (ESR) or thevacuum arc remelting process (VAR).4.1.1 The steel may be ingot cast or continuously cast.4.2 The finished wir

Chemical Composition5.1 The steel shall conform to the requirements for chemicalco
18、mposition prescribed in Table 1.5.2 Heat AnalysisEach heat of steel shall be analyzed bythe manufacturer to determine the percentage of elementsprescribed in Table 1. This analysis shall be made from a testspecimen preferably taken during the pouring of the heat.When requested, this shall be reporte
19、d to the purchaser andshall conform to the requirements of Table 1.5.3 Product AnalysisAn analysis may be made by thepurchaser from finished wire representing each heat of steel.The chemical composition thus determined, as to elementsrequired or restricted, shall conform to the product analysisrequi
20、rements specified in Table 10 of Specification A510 orA510M.5.4 For referee purposes, Test Methods E30 shall be used.6. Mechanical Requirements6.1 Tension Test.6.1.1 RequirementsThe material as represented by tensiontest specimens shall conform to the requirements prescribed inTable 2.6.1.2 Number o
21、f TestsOne test specimen shall be takenfrom each end of every coil.6.1.3 Test MethodThe tension test shall be made inaccordance with Test Methods and Definitions A370, exceptthat the length L for evaluation of the elongation shall becalculated from the following formula:L 5 11.3=WTwhereW = width of
22、the wire, andT = thickness of the wire.The length L shall be used to calculate the permanentelongation. The distance between the gage marks shall bemeasured to the nearest 0.004 in. (0.1 mm). Determine tensileproperties and permanent elongation as described in TestMethods and Definitions A370.6.1.4
23、RetestIf any test specimen exhibits obviousdiscontinuity, it may be discarded and another specimensubstituted.7. Dimensions and Permissible Variations7.1 The permissible variations in dimensions of the wireshall be as specified in Table 3, unless otherwise specified inthe ordering information.8. Wor
24、kmanship, Finish, and Appearance8.1 The wire shall be free of detrimental surfaceimperfections, tangles and sharp kinks.8.2 The wire shall conform to the dimensions, tolerances,and finish specified on the order or drawing. Welds are notpermitted.8.3 When required, non-destructive examination shall b
25、ecarried out in accordance with Supplementary Requirement S1.8.4 The wire as received shall be smooth and substantiallyfree from rust. No detrimental die marks or scratches may bepresent.9. Inspection9.1 The manufacturer shall afford the purchasers inspectorall reasonable facilities to satisfy him t
26、hat the material is beingproduced and furnished in accordance with this specification.All tests and inspections may be made at the place ofmanufacture prior to shipment and shall be so conducted as tonot interfere unnecessarily with the operation of the work.10. Certification and Reports10.1 The man
27、ufacturer shall furnish the required number,from the purchase order, of test reports to the purchaser. Packaging, Marking, and Loading for Shipment11.1 The coil, reel or spool mass, dimensions, and themethod of packaging shall be agreed upon between themanufacturer and purchaser.11.2 The size of the wire, purchasers order number, ASTMspecification number, and name or mark of t
33、he manufacturershall be marked on a tag securely attached to each coil, reel, orspool of wire.11.3 Unless otherwise specified in the purchasers order,packaging, marking, and loading for shipments shall be inaccordance with those procedures recommended by PracticesA700.11.4 For Government Procurement
34、Packaging, packing,and marking of material for military procurement shall be inaccordance with the requirements of MIL-STD-163, Level A,Level C, or commercial as specified in the contract or purchaseorder. Marking for shipment of material for civil agencies shallbe in accordance with Fed. Std. No. 1
35、23.11.5 Bar CodingIn addition to the previously-stated iden-tification requirements, bar coding is acceptable as a supple-mentary identification method. Bar coding should be consistentwith AIAG Standard 02.00, Primary Metals Identification TagApplication. The bar code may be applied to a substantial
