Scope1.1 This specification covers reinforced
3、arch-shaped con-crete pipe to be used for the conveyance of sewage, industrialwastes, storm water, and for the construction of culverts.1.2 This specification is the inch-pound companion toC506M; therefore, no SI equivalents are presented in thespecification. Reinforced concrete pipe that conform to

12、re prescribed in Table 1.5. Basis of Acceptance5.1 Unless otherwise designated by the owner at the time of,or before placing an order, there are two separate and alterna-tive bases of acceptance. Independent of the method ofacceptance, the pipe shall be designed to meet both the 0.01-in.crack and ul

16、meters and classes produced in accordance with 7.1 or 7.2,shall be determined by the results of the three-edge-bearingtests as defined in 11.3.1; by such material tests as are requiredin accordance with 6.2, 6.3, 6.5, and 6.6, by an absorption testof the concrete from the wall of the pipe as require
17、d in 11.9;and by visual inspection of the finished pipe to determine itsconformance with the accepted design and its freedom fromdefects.5.1.2 Acceptance on Basis of Material Tests and Inspectionof Manufactured Pipe for Defects and ImperfectionsAcceptability of the pipe in all diameters and classes
18、producedin accordance with 7.1 or 7.2 shall be determined by the resultsof such material tests as are required in 6.2, 6.3, 6.5, and 6.6;by crushing tests on concrete cores or cured concrete cylinders;by an absorption test of the concrete from the wall of the pipefor each mix design that is used on
19、an order; and by inspectionof the finished pipe, including amount and placement ofreinforcement, to determine its conformance with the accepteddesign and its freedom from defects.5.1.3 When agreed upon by the owner and the manufacturer,any portion or any combination of the tests itemized in 5.1.1 or
20、5.1.2 may form the basis of acceptance.5.2 Age for AcceptancePipe shall be considered ready foracceptance when they conform to the requirements as indicatedby the specified tests.6. For helically wound cages only, weldshear tests are not required.6.6 FibersSynthetic fibers and nonsynthetic fibers shall beallowed to be used, at the manufacturers option, in concretepipe as a nonstructural manufacturing material. Synthetic fibers(Type II and Type III) and non
38、synthetic fiber (Type I) designedand manufactured specifically for use in concrete and conform-ing to the requirements of Specification C1116/C1116M shallbe accepted.6.7 WaterWater used in the production of concrete shallbe potable or nonpotable water that meets the requirements ofSpecification C160
39、2/C1602M.7. Design7.1 Size and DimensionsThe standard sizes of arch pipeare listed in Table 1. The internal dimensions for each standardsize shall be as defined in Fig. 1, subject to the permissiblevariations of Section 12.7.2 Design TablesThe wall thickness, compressivestrength of concrete, and the
40、 area of circumferential reinforce-ment shall be as prescribed in Table 1, subject to the provisionsof 7.3 and Sections 11 and 12.7.2.1 Footnotes to the tables herein are intended to beamplifications of the tabulated requirements and are to beconsidered applicable and binding as if they were contain
41、ed inthe body of the specification.7.3 Modified and Special Designs:7.3.1 If permitted by the owner, the manufacturer mayrequest approval by the owner of modified designs that differfrom the designs in this Section 7 or special designs for sizesand loads beyond those shown in Table 1, or special des
42、igns forpipe sizes that do not have steel reinforcement areas shown inTable 1.7.3.2 Such modified or special designs shall be based onrational or empirical evaluations of the ultimate strength andcracking behavior of pipe and shall fully describe to the ownerany deviations from the requirements of t
43、his Section 7. Thedescriptions of modified or special designs shall include thewall thickness, the concrete strength, and the area, type,placement, number of layers, and strength of the steel rein-forcement.7.3.3 The manufacturer shall submit to the owner proof ofthe adequacy of the proposed modifie
44、d or special design. Suchproof may comprise the submission of certified three-edge-bearing tests already made, which are acceptable to the owneror, if such three-edge-bearing tests are not available oracceptable, the manufacturer may be required to perform prooftests on sizes and classes selected by
45、 the owner to demonstratethe adequacy of the proposed design.7.3.4 Such pipe must meet all of the test and performancerequirements specified by the owner in accordance withSection 5.7.4 AreaIn this specification, when the word area is notdescribed by adjectives, such as cross-section or single wire,
46、 itshall be understood to be the cross-sectional area of reinforce-ment per unit lengths of pipe.8. Reinforcement8.1 Circumferential ReinforcementA line of circumferen-tial reinforcement for any given total area may be composed oftwo layers for pipe with wall thicknesses of less than 7 in. orthree l
47、ayers for pipe with wall thicknesses of 7 in. or greater.The layers shall not be separated by more than the thickness ofone longitudinal plus14 in. The multiple layers shall befastened together to form a single cage. All other specificationrequirements such as laps, welds, and tolerances of placemen
48、tin the wall of the pipe, etc., shall apply to this method offabricating a line of reinforcement.8.1.1 Where one line of reinforcement is used, it shall beplaced so that the cover of the concrete over the circumferentialC506 16b3reinforcement at the vertical and horizontal diameters of thepipe is 1
49、in. from the inside and outside surfaces of the pipe,except for wall thicknesses less than 212 in., the protectivecover of the concrete over the circumferential reinforcement inthe wall of the pipe shall be38 in.8.1.2 Where two lines of reinforcement of arch shapecorresponding to the contour of the pipe are used, each lineshall be so placed that the covering of concrete over thereinforcement is 1 in.8.1.3 The location of the reinforcement shall be subject tothe permissible variations in dimensions given in 12.5.
