Scope1.1 This specification covers calcium silicate block a

3、nd pipethermal insulation for use on surfaces with temperaturesbetween 80 and 1700F (27 to 927C), unless otherwise agreedupon between the manufacturer and the purchaser.1.2 The values stated in inch-pound units are to be regardedas the standard. Classification4.1 Thermal insulation shall be of the following types:4.1.1 Type IBlock for use on surfaces at temperature

Description5.1 CompositionCalcium silicate thermal insulation shallconsist principally of hydrous calcium silicate usually with theincorporation of fibrous reinforcement. Asbestos s

17、hall not beused as a component in the manufacture of the material.6. Physical Requirements6.1 The insulation shall conform to the physical require-ments of Table 1.7. Standard Shapes, Sizes, and Dimensions7.1 Calcium silicate block-type thermal insulation shall besupplied in the form of pipe insulat

18、ion, flat block or curvedblocks as specified. Standard sizes of the block type insulationshall be as follows:7.1.1 Flat BlockFlat block shall be furnished in lengths of36 in. (458 or 914 mm), widths of 6 to 36 in. (152 to 914 mm),and thicknesses from 1 to 6 in. (25 to 152 mm) in12-in.(13-mm) increme

19、nts. Thicknesses greater than 3 in. (76 mm)shall be furnished in one or more layers as agreed upon bypurchaser and manufacturer.7.1.2 Curved BlockCurved block shall be furnished inlengths of 36 in. (914 mm), widths of approximately 6 to 12 in.(152 or 305 mm), thicknesses of 112 to 4 in. (38 to 101 m

20、m) in12-in. (13-mm) increments, and curved to inside radii of over1612 in. (419 mm). Individual dimensions shall conform tothose specified by the manufacturer.7.1.3 Grooved BlockGrooved block shall be furnished inlengths of 36 in. (914 mm), widths of 12 or 18 in. (305 or 458mm), and thicknesses from

21、 1 to 6 in. (25 to 152 mm) in12-in.(13-mm) increments. Size and spacing of grooves shall be asspecified by the manufacturer.7.2 Calcium Silicate Pipe InsulationCalcium silicate pipeinsulation shall be supplied either as hollow cylindrical shapessplit in half lengthwise (in a plane including the cyli

22、ndricalaxis) or as curved segments. The pipe insulation shall befurnished in sections or segments in a length of 36 in. (914mm) , unless otherwise agreed upon by the Purchaser, to fitstandard sizes of pipe and tubing, and in nominal wallthicknesses from 1 to 6 in. (25 to 152 mm), in12 in. (13 mm)inc

23、rements. Thicknesses greater than 3 in. (76 mm) shall befurnished in one or more layers as agreed upon by between thepurchaser and the manufacturer. 31、hape.Note that the apparent thermal conductivity requirements in the table are based on samples tested under the conditions specified in 12.1.2. These are comparative valuesfor establishing specification compliance. They do not represent the installed performance of the insulation under use conditio

32、ns differing substantially from the testconditions.C533072shall be in accordance with those standard dimensions speci-fied in Practice C 585.NOTE 1When multilayer sectional pipe insulation is required, it isnecessary to consider the inside and outside diameters of each layer toensure proper nesting

33、of materials when installed. Necessity of furnishingmultilayer pipe insulation nested from the manufacturer shall be based onmanufacturers ability to control outside diameters on inner layers to notgreater than inside diameters, at minus tolerances, of nesting outer layerunder normal production, as

34、agreed to between purchaser and manufac-turer.8. Dimensional Tolerances8.1 GeneralThe average tolerances for length, width, andthickness shall be as following:Block PipeLength 618 in. 35、er Diameter in accordance with Practice C 5858.2 Pipe InsulationThe following additional dimensionaltolerances apply only to calcium silicate pipe insulation sup-plied as half sections.8.2.1 Fit and ClosureWhen fitted to the appropriate sizepipe by banding on 9-in. (229-mm) centers, the longitudinal

36、seams on both sides of the pipe insulation shall close to within116 in. (2 mm) along the entire length of the section.8.2.2 ConcentricityThe inner bore of the pipe insulationshall be concentric with the outer cylindrical surface. Thedeviation from concentricity shall not exceed18 in. (3 mm) or5 % of

37、 the wall thickness, whichever is greater.8.2.3 Half-Section BalanceThe plane formed by the slitbetween half sections shall include the cylindrical axis. Devia-tion of the slit plane from the cylindrical axis over a 36-in.(914-mm) length shall not exceed18 in. (3 mm).8.3 Grooved BlockThe following a

38、dditional requirementsapply only to calcium silicate block insulation containinggrooves and intended for installation over curved surfaces, 20in. (508 mm) in diameter of larger.8.3.1 Fit and ClosureWhen fitted to the curved surface,the grooves shall close to18 in. (3 mm) or less through thedepth of

39、the groove. The exposed surface crack shall not openmore than18 in. (3 mm).9. Workmanship9.1 Since some requirements for this material are not easilydefined by a numerical value, the insulation shall not havevisible defects that will adversely affect its service qualities.10. Sampling10.1 The insula

40、tion shall be sampled in accordance withPractice C 390. Specific provision for sampling shall be agreedupon between the purchaser and the supplier as part of thepurchase contract.11. Qualification Requirements11.1 The following requirements are generally employed forpurpose of initial material or pr

41、oduct qualification:11.1.1 Flexural strength.11.1.2 Compression strength.11.1.3 Mass loss by tumbling.11.1.4 Linear shrinkage after soaking heat.11.1.5 Hot surface performance.11.1.6 Apparent thermal conductivity.11.1.7 Surface burning characteristics.11.1.8 Moisture content.12. Test Methods12.1 The

42、 properties enumerated in this specification shall bedetermined in accordance with the following test methods.Samples shall be preconditioned in accordance with PracticeC 870.12.1.1 Density and Dimensions:12.1.1.1 Block InsulationTest Method C 303.12.1.1.2 Pipe InsulationTest Method C 302.12.1.2 App

43、arent Thermal Conductivity:12.1.2.1 GeneralApparent thermal conductivity versusmean temperature shall be calculated in accordance withPractice C 1045. Determinations shall be made at four or moremean temperatures. Two of the test mean temperatures shall bewithin 50F (28C) of the highest and lowest m

44、ean temperaturespecified in Table 1 for the appropriate material type. The othertwo determinations shall be made at mean temperatures spacedequally within the specified range. All test temperatures shallbe selected in accordance with Practice C 1058 and reported inthe test results.12.1.2.2 The resul

45、ts of these tests shall be interpolatedthrough reasonable curve fitting or numerical techniques, toestablish the apparent thermal conductivity at the specifiedmean temperature.12.1.2.3 Block InsulationTest Methods C 177, C 518, orC 1114 using 112 612 in.
