The number of mobile phones in use is also growing much faster than the number of computers, especially in poorer countries. Furthermore, most people carry their mobile w

5、ith them everywheresomething that cannot be said of television or computers. C Yet the biggest selling point of mobile ads is what marketing types call relevance . Advertisers believe that about half of all traditional advertising does not reach the right audience. But mobile advertising through tex

6、t messages is the most focused: if marketers use mobile firms profiles of their customers cleverly enough, they can tailor their advertisements to match each subscribers habits. D In September, Blyk, a new mobile operator, launched a service in Britain that aims to do just that. It offers subscriber

7、s 27 free text messages and 43 free minutes of voice calls per month as long as they agree to receive six advertisements by text message every day. To sign up for the service,customers must fill out a questionnaire about their hobbies and habits. So advertisers can target their messages very precise

8、ly. Britain is the largest, but also the trickiest European ad market, so if it works here it will work everywhere, says Pekka Ala-Pietila, chief executive and one of the founders of Blyk. 1 Customers are rewarded in return for text message advertisements on their mobile phones. 2 At present, mobile

According to Andrew Gillingham, a consultant trainer, appraisals can be manager -led. with the appraiser preparing a document and sharing it with the employee. Establishing training needs and motivating the employee towards bigge

16、r and better things are part of this process. (10) .In both cases, Gillingham believes that the effectiveness of the appraisal discussion can determine the performance of the company. Gillingham believes that anyone who thinks its just the employee who doesnt like the appraisal experience has got it

17、 wrong. Too many managers regard appraisals as a waste of time. (11) Managing people is a difficult matter, and without the necessary training, many managers try to avoid the uncomfortable issues that often need to be discussed at appraisals. Gillingham believes that calling the process an appraisal

Gillingham firmly believes that the main thing is to emphasise an open communications ethos in the workplace that gives staff a chance to talk about issues and f

FAMILY BUSINESSES A great many people maybe at some stage in their lives consider setting up a business with their family members. The idea may seem very attractive, but the reality of working with someone close to you can o

23、ften cause unforeseen problems. 80% of family-run businesses think that when times get tough, love, romance or family bonds will see them through. But the fact is that although 70% of businesses are family-run, only 40% of these companies survive to the second generation. Why do so many family busin

24、esses fail? While money has traditionally been thought to be the root of all difficulties, the major problem is much more clear. In businesses which dont have family ties or relationships, people find it easier to communicate and to say what is on their mind. In contrast, with family businesses, peo

25、ple often make the mistake of thinking they know what views other family members have without actually discussing with them. There is one strategy which should be used in all family businesses to protect potential problems. As time goes by, one partner may lose interest or not work as effectively as

26、 they are expected to. If each partners responsibilities are identified from the start so that they know exactly what is required of them, difficulties are less likely to arise as the business develops. It is also recommended to ask yourselves a few “what if“ questions before starting a family busin

27、ess. For example, what if one of the partners brought a friend into the family business and others didnt like this person? What would you do? To avoid this kind of problem, you should talk it over amongst yourselves. This sort of research can make you aware of both your own attitudes and the attitud

28、es of the other members of the family before problems actually occur. Contracts are another potential problems. Too many family businesses are run on the most informal terms. People often think it is unfriendly to ask a relative to sign a contract outlining the terms of a business venture. But you s

29、hould treat the family business like any other business and be professional to draw up a contract. Whether the business is profitable or not, it is supposed who owns the shares must be clearly defined and written into a formal contract. It must also be clear who is running the company. 30、usinesses take a vote on every decision. Perhaps this exercise in democracy should be applauded, but it created so many complications that in the end the business failed.
