I hope youve all registered and obtained your name badges and

13、information packs. I would like to point out some additional information and changes to the agenda you will find in your packs. The four seminar workshops are now as follow. Room Six “Marketing“. Bishops Hall One “Communications“, which replaces “Taxation“. Bishops Hall Two “Strategic Planning“, whi

14、ch now includes small business as well as large companies. Room Five “Human Resources“. Ill just run through that again. “Marketing“ is in Room Six. In Bishops Hall One we have a change to the original programme and “Taxation“ has been replaced by “Communications“. “Strategic Planning“ in Bishops Ha

15、ll Two now includes small businesses and Room Five is “Human Resources“ . We will stay in the Convocation Hall for the first morning session which runs from nine-thirty till eleven oclock, when we shall all meet up in the Memorial Hall for coffee and biscuits. The eleven-thirty session will be held

16、in Bishops Hall One. A buffet lunch will be held in the self-service restaurant from one to two. We are hoping that this system will prove quicker than waitress service and ensure a prompt start to the afternoon session which begins in Bishops Hall Two at two oclock and runs to three-thirty. Please

17、note, however, that we shall be in Room Five for the four to five-thirty sessioa Tea and biscuits will be brought to you between three-thirty and four oclock. At five-thirty we invite you all to the Assembly Hall for an hours general forum. There will be time for questions based on the days sessions

18、. This session in the Assembly Hall is intended to give you an opportunity to clarify and problem areas which may have arisen during the day and to ask any questions you may have. There will be a general exhibition of books and resource materials in the Abbey Room which will be open for the whole da

27、nty of them. Id even done research. Showed them there was a demand for my work. But theyre not interested in any small firms. 28、erything by the book projections, product research, I did the lot. Then I went round the local offices and noticed there was a niche in my part of town for another take-away. So I decided to go for it. I thought about sandwiches at first but then I knew it had to be hamburgers. What else 90% of peop

29、le I talked to said there would be a demand. I didnt have any money so 1 approached a big company one of the most famous in the world for this kind of business. I did a business plan and after a lot of work they took me oa I joined the franchise scheme. You know where you borrow from the big company

30、, use their name and pay them back from your profits. And I must say, its been very successful, so far. Very hard work, but well worth it. pause Speaker Three Man: Well, after a long time of teaching I thought no I knew I needed to move on, do something else, and it had to be a good idea to set up m

31、y own operation. You only have to look around Central London to see the demand. Everybodys learning English and more and more business people need it. I had worked in business for a number of years and knew I had the experience to make it work. The one big drawback to the whole plan was that no-one

32、was interested in lending me money. It was hopeless. I wasted so much time going to different banks without success. I was just about to give up when I read about the Government Start-up scheme. If they like your idea they will give you money. I was lucky. Its a great success. pause Speaker Four Wom

33、an: It started as a group of friends getting together and talking about a common problem. The high cost of business trips and the need for a reasonable package. Once people know you are going away on business they think you have limitless funds for it. And we all knew from our own experience that qu

34、ite the opposite is true when you work for yourself. So we decided to start something ourselves. Our initial enthusiasm soon disappeared when we tried to raise the money to start, though. We met with a complete lack of interest. So we put together a good business plan and went knocking on doors. We

35、kept at it. We didnt give up and eventually we found a sympathetic bank manager and they advanced us some money.
