We can see that Japan is unique amongst the four countries in that the number of days off-due to public holidays (13) exceeds the numb

5、er of days annual leave (11). The total of 24 days is the second lowest even though the number of public holidays is the highest. The USA has the lowest total number of days off per average employee. The number of public holidays is 10 and the number of days annual leave is 12, giving a total of 22,

6、 which is the lowest of the four countries. The UK gives employees fewer public holidays (8) than the other three countries. Italy offers 9. The number of days annual leave is more than double the number far the USA and Japan with the UK giving 27 and Italy giving the most at 31. This results in tot

7、al days off-being 35 and 4o far the UK and Italy respectively. To summarise, in the two West European countries, the number of days annual leave is substantially higher than the number of public holidays and the totals far those countries are higher than the totals far Japan and the USA. Italy gives

8、 the average employee more days off-than the other thee countries and the USA gives the least. 二、 WRITING TASK 2 You should spend about 40 minutes on this task. 2 【正确答案】 Whilst I think that giving help in any form is worthwhile, I believe that helping at the individual or community level is better f

9、or two main reasons. In this essay, I would like to look at these two reasons in more detail. The first reason that I believe in giving help at the individual or community level rather than giving money through national and international organisations is that I think it is more efficient financially

10、. When money is given to national and international organisations, some of the donation is inevitably lost in covering the cost of administration. Of course, this happens at the community level as well, but at least the money is normally used for administrative costs in the location where the money

11、is needed rather than at offices far from the area. In many countries there is also a large risk of losing money through corruption as some officials (particularly those in certain African countries) seek to line their own pockets at the expense of the rest of the population. The second reason that

12、I believe in helping communities and individuals more directly is that it gives the person donating the money a more direct involvement with the people receiving it. This encourages the person donating money to see that it is used well. If the person is donating their time rather than their money, t

13、he person can see the project develop and put into action. A good example of this is in China, where wealthy individuals sometimes build schools in the rural areas where they grew up. Giving money to national and international organisations has advantages. One is that such organisations are better a

14、ble to publicise campaigns for money and the projects that they are working on. Another is that they are sometimes better at directing money to the very poorest areas, which might not be able to get their needs heard by the outside world. To conclude, giving time and money in any fashion is worthwhile, but I think that it is better if people are able to give money directly to individuals and communities rather than using national or international organisations.
