United States13. Standard Shapes, Sizes, and Dimensions3.1 Molded exp

16、anded perlite block, fitting, and pipe thermal insulation shall be as follows:3.1.1 BlockBlock shall be furnished in lengths of either 36 or 39.4 in. (914 or 1000 mm), widths of 6 in. (152 mm), 12 in.(305 mm), 18 in. (457 mm), or 24 in. (610 mm), and in thickness from 112 to 6 in. (38 to 152 mm) in

17、increments of 12 in. (13mm).3.1.2 Pipe InsulationMolded expanded perlite pipe insulation shall be supplied either as hollow cylindrical shapes split in halflengthwise (in a plane including the cylindrical axis) or curved segments. The pipe insulation shall be furnished in sections orsegments in leng

18、ths of either 36 or 39.4 in. (914 or 1000 mm) to fit standard sizes of pipe and tubing, and in nominal thicknessfrom 1 to 4 in. (25 to 102 mm) in 12-in. (13-mm) increments. Inner and outer diameters of multilayer construction shall bespecified. Inner and outer diameters shall be in accordance with t

19、hose standard dimensions specified in Practice C585. Sinceoutside diameter tolerances differ between individual manufacturing processes, it is acceptable to have pipe insulation furnishedin two or more layers nested by the manufacturer. The purchaser shall consult the manufacturer for specific requi

20、rements.3.1.3 FittingsMolded (expanded insulation fittings shall conform to the inner and outer diameters in accordance with PracticeC585. Mitered fittings shall be in accordance with Practice C450.4. Description4.1 Compositionmolded expanded perlite block, fitting, and pipe thermal insulation shall

21、 be composed principally ofexpanded perlite and silicate binders may contain reinforcing fibers.5. Dimensional Tolerances5.1 GeneralThe average tolerances for length, width, and thickness shall comply with the requirements shown in Table 1.5.2 Pipe InsulationThe following additional tolerances apply

22、 to perlite pipe insulation supplied as half sections:5.2.1 Fit and ClosureWhen fitted to the appropriate size pipe, the longitudinal seam of the pipe insulation shall close to within116 in. (1.6 mm) along the entire length of the section.5.2.2 ConcentricityThe inner bore of the pipe insulation shal

23、l be concentric with the outer cylindrical surface. The deviationfrom concentricity shall not exceed 18 in. (3.2 mm) or 5 % of the wall thickness, whichever is greater.5.2.3 Half-Section BalanceThe plane formed by the split between half sections shall include the cylindrical axis. Deviationof the sp

24、lit plane from the cylinder axis over the 36 or 39.4-in. (914 or 1000-mm) length shall not exceed 18 in. (3.2 mm).6. Workmanship, Finish, and Appearance6.1 Since some requirements for this material are not easily defined by a numerical value, the insulation shall not have visibledefects that will ad

25、versely affect its service qualities.7. Physical Requirements7.1 The insulation shall conform to the physical requirements in Table 2.8. Sampling8.1 The insulation shall be sampled in accordance with Practice C390. Specific provision for sampling shall be agreed uponbetween the purchaser and the sup

39、.1.2.3 Apparent thermal conductivity versus mean temperature shall be calculated in accordance with Practice C1045.Determinations shall be made at four or more mean temperatures. Two of the test mean temperatures shall be within 50F (28C)of the highest and lowest mean temperature specified in Table

40、2. The other two determinations shall be made at mean temperaturesspaced equally within the specified range. All test temperatures shall be selected in accordance with Practice C1058C1058/C1058M and reported in the test results. The results of these tests shall be interpolated through reasonable cur

41、ve fitting ornumerical techniques, to establish the apparent thermal conductivity at the specified mean temperature.11.1.3 Linear Shrinkage After Heat SoakingRefer to Test Method C356. The test temperature shall be 1200F (649C).11.1.4 Flexural Strength (Block Insulation Only)Test Methods C203 Method

The value reported should be the numerical average of the calculated moisturecontent of four specimens rounded to the nearest 1 %.11.1.8 Water Absorption After Heat Aging: Test Method C1763, Procedure A.11.1.8.1 ScopeThis test method covers a laboratory pr

44、ocedure for evaluating the moisture resistance of molded expandedperlite block thermal insulation when exposed to one specific operating temperature.Test two specimens, one as a control and theother is the heat aged block.11.1.8.2 Significance and Use: (1) Molded perlite insulation products are form

45、ulated to be resistant to water absorption. It isimportant that the materials retain a large proportion of their water resistance even after exposure to elevated temperatures. (Dryboth specimens to constant weight at 100C.(2) This test method is used to determine the water resistance after submersio

46、n of perlite insulation materials after exposure tosoaking heat.11.1.8.3 Test SpecimensSpecimens are to be 6 6 18 by 312 6 18-in. (152 6 3 by 89 6 3-mm) by 2 6 18-in. (51 6 3- mm)thick perlite block. Two specimens are required. Mark each specimen for identification. The density of each specimen must

47、 bewithin the allowable range as specified in Table 1.11.1.8.4 Apparatus: (1) Steel Rule, graduation in 116 in.(2) Electric Oven, capable of maintaining temperatures as high as 600F (316C) with a 6 5 % accuracy.11.1.8.3 Procedure: (1) Place one specimen in the electric oven. The second block will be

48、 retained as a control specimen.(Condition2) Operate the oven at 600F (316C) 6 10F (6C) for a minimum of 24 h. Place the control specimen and the heattreated specimens the control specimen in a controlled environment of 73 6 2F (23 6 1C) and 50 6 5 % relative humidity.7365F (2361C) and 5065% relativ

49、e humidity for a minimum of 48 h.NOTE 1Precaution: In addition to other precautions, wear appropriate hand protection to avoid injury when removing hot specimens from the oven.(3) After the specimens have cooled for at least 12 h in the controlled environment, weigh each of the specimens to the nearest0.1 g.(4) Completely immerse each specimen so that a head of 1 in. of distilled water at ambient temperature is maintained for aminimum of 48 h.
