Scope1.1 This specification covers the composition, size, dim

3、en-sions, and physical properties of glass fiber blanket thermal andacoustical insulation for use up to 700F (370C) in aircraftapplications. For specific applications, the maximum tempera-ture shall be agreed upon between the supplier and thepurchaser.1.2 The values stated in inch-pound units are to

Definitions inTest Method C 522 shall be considered as applying to theacoustical terms used in this standard.3.2 Definitions of Terms S

11、pecific to This Standard:3.2.1 WettingA condition where the water has penetratedinto the insulation and fills the spaces between the fibers.4. Classification4.1 Fibrous glass blanket insulation covered by this speci-fication shall be classified into Types based on temperaturelimits, Classes based on

12、 acoustical properties, Grades based onnominal density and Groups based upon thickness as shown inTable 1.4.2 The insulation shall be either water repellent or non-water repellent.5. Ordering Information5.1 The type, class, grade, and group suited to the conditionsof intended service shall be specif

16、/acoustical properties, grade refersto nominal density and group refers to thickness of insulation.5.2 It shall also be specified whether the insulation is to bewater repellent or non-water repellent.6. Materials and Manufacture6.1 Composition:6.1.1 Fiber shall be glass processed from a molten state

17、 intofibrous form.6.1.2 Binder shall be of a type and quantity to provide theproperties and performance listed in this specification. Addi-tives can be included to provide a degree of water repellency.6.1.3 This product is typically supplied unfaced.6.1.4 The basic product can also be obtained in un

18、curedform for molding into special shapes other than blanket.However, not all requirements in this specification apply. Thepurchaser shall consult the supplier and agree on the portionsof this specification and conditions that are applicable.6.2 For sizes and densities other than those listed, thepu

19、rchaser shall consult the material supplier.7. Physical Requirements7.1 The insulation shall conform to the requirements de-scribed in 7.2-7.11 and Tables 1-5.7.2 DensityThe insulation shall conform to the require-ments shown in Table 1. The insulation shall have a maximumdensity tolerance when test

20、ed in accordance with 11.6 of +15%, with no minimum limit.7.3 HandleabilityEach piece of insulation shall be suffi-ciently coherent to permit transportation and installation as aunit.7.4 Burning CharacteristicsThe insulation shall conformto the requirements in FAR 25.853, Appendix F, Part I.7.5 Wick

21、ing (water-repellent insulation only)The insula-tion shall conform to the requirements in Table 2, when test inaccordance with 11.2.7.6 Odor EmissionA detectable odor of objectionablenature recorded by more than two of the five panel membersshall constitute failure of the material, when tested in ac

22、cor-dance with 11.3.7.7 Service TemperatureThe insulation shall conform tothe requirements in Table 1, when tested in accordance with11.7.7.7.1 Insulation shall be serviceable up to the maximumtemperature limitations as long as limited mechanical proper-ties are required. At maximum or near-maximum

23、servicetemperatures, some deterioration of the binder is possible overextended periods of time.7.8 Apparent Thermal ConductivityValues shall not ex-ceed those in Table 3, when tested in accordance with 11.9.7.9 Specific Transverse Airflow ResistanceThe insulationshall conform to the requirements in

Dimensions and Permissible Variations8.1 Length and Width

30、The average measured length andwidth shall not differ from the manufacturers standard dimen-sions by more than the following:Length6 in. (152 mm), with excess permitted;Width 60.5 in. (13 mm).8.2 ThicknessInsulation shall recover to within the fol-lowing values of the nominal thickness:Less than 1-i

(6.4 mm)8.3 Dimensions shall be tested in accordance with 11.6.8.4 Standard SizesAs agreed upon between customer andmanufacturer.9. Workmanship, Finish, and Appearance9.1 The ins

32、ulation units shall indicate good workmanship infabrication and shall not have visible defects that adverselyaffect their service qualities.10. Sampling10.1 The insulation shall be sampled in accordance withPractice C 390. Specific provision for sampling shall be asagreed upon between the purchaser

33、and the supplier as part ofthe purchase contract.11. Test Methods11.1 Burning Characteristics:Testing shall be conducted according to and burning char-acteristics shall meet the appropriate section of Federal Avia-tion Regulation 25.853, Appendix F Part I.11.2 WickingDetermine wicking in accordance

Inspection13.1 The following requirements are

41、 generally employedfor purposes of acceptance sampling of lots or shipments ofqualified insulation:13.1.1 Density,13.1.2 Water Repellency (water-repellent material only),13.1.3 Dimensions, and13.1.4 Workmanship.14. Rejection and Rehearing14.1 Material that fails to conform to the requirements ofthe
