Scope1.1 This specification covers the classification, composition,and physical properties of flexible fibrous glass insulation foruse as

3、 interior surface of walls and roofs of metal buildings.1.2 The basic insulation blanket is designed to be post-processed by a laminating process that applies an adhesivebonded facing to provide the interior finish and vapor retarderrequirements for the building envelope.1.3 The thermal values measu

4、red in accordance with thisspecification for both pre-processed and post-processed insu-lation are for the insulation only and do not include the effectsof air-film surface resistance, changes in mean temperature, orcompression of insulation at the framing members of thebuilding, through metal condu

5、ctance of fasteners and otherparallel heat-transfer paths due to design or installation tech-niques.1.4 The values stated in inch-pound units are to be regardedas the standard. Classification4.1 The flexible insulation is furnished in two types, asfollows:1This specification is under the jurisdiction of ASTM Committee C16

16、upplied with a suitablefacing adhered to one surface.5. Ordering Information5.1 Type I material shall be ordered by specifying thermalresistance value, length, and width.5.2 Type II material shall be ordered by specifying thermalresistance value, type of facing, facing permeance, length,width, numbe

17、r of tabs, and tab width.5.3 Certification, when required, shall be in accordance withSection 11.6. Physical Properties6.1 Type 1 Material:6.1.1 Thermal ResistanceThe thermal resistance of thepre-processed insulation shall be determined in accordancewith Guide C 653. The average R-value from nine ra

18、ndomlyselected specimens, three specimens from each of three rolls,shall not be less than 103 % of the R-value agreed upon by thepurchaser and the supplier. Use Test Method C 177 or C 518 at75F (23.9C) with a minimum temperature difference of 40F(20C) for determining apparent thermal conductivity. U

19、se thefull roll method from Test Method C 167 to determine theaverage thickness for each roll and evaluate at the lesser ofmeasured or label thickness.NOTE 1See Guide C 653. The thermal resistance is a function ofmean temperature. As an option, the thermal resistance may be determinedat additional m

20、ean temperatures as agreed upon by the purchaser and themanufacturer.6.1.2 Surface Burning CharacteristicsThe surface burn-ing characteristics shall be determined in accordance with TestMethod E 84. For Canada, test in accordance with CAN/ULC-S102-M88. Results shall be no greater than:Flame spread 2

21、5Smoke developed 506.1.3 Combustion CharacteristicsThe material shall passthe requirements of Test Method E 136.6.1.4 Water Vapor SorptionThe water vapor sorptionfrom exposure to water vapor shall not be greater than 0.2 % byvolume when determined in accordance with the procedure setforth in Test Me

22、thod C 1104.6.1.5 Fungi ResistanceWhen tested in accordance withthe procedure set forth in Test Method C 1338, the insulationshall exhibit no growth.6.1.6 CorrosivenessWhen tested in accordance with theprocedure in Specification C 665, the metal plates in contactwith the insulation shall show no gre

23、ater corrosion than thatobserved on the comparative plates in contact with sterilecotton.6.1.7 Odor EmissionWhen tested in accordance with TestMethod C 1304, the insulation shall not emit a detectable odorobjectionable to more than two of the five panel members.6.1.8 Dimensional TolerancesThe averag

24、e measuredlength and width shall not differ from the manufacturersstandard dimensions, when determined in accordance with TestMethods C 167, (Note 2) by more than the following:Length, 0 in. (0 mm)Width, 18 in. (3 mm)NOTE 2Normally, a slight excess in all dimensions will be permitted.However, the pu

25、rchaser may elect to specify a maximum tolerance to meetfurther processing requirements.6.2 Type II Material:6.2.1 Type II shall be faced on one side with a suitablefacing and exhibit the following.6.2.2 Thermal ResistanceThe thermal resistance of thepost-processed insulation shall be determined in

26、accordancewith Guide C 653. The average R-value from nine randomlyselected specimens, three specimens from each of three rolls,shall not be less than 95 % of the R-value agreed upon by thepurchaser and the supplier. Use Test Method C 177 or C 518 at75F (23.9C) with a minimum temperature difference o

27、f 40F(20C) for determining apparent thermal conductivity. Use TestMethods C 167 to determine the average thickness for eachroll.6.2.3 Surface Burning CharacteristicsDetermine the sur-face burning characteristics on the facing side of the compositematerial. in accordance with Test Method E 84. For Ca

28、nada,test in accordance with CAN/ULC-S102-M88. Results shall beno greater than:Flame spread 25Smoke developed 506.2.4 Combustion CharacteristicsThe base insulation ma-terial shall pass the requirements of Test Method E 136.6.2.5 Water Vapor SorptionThe water vapor sorption ofthe base material shall

30、insulation is tested inaccordance with the procedure in Specification C 665, themetal plates in contact with the insulation shall show no greatercorrosion than that observed on the comparative plates incontact with sterile cotton6.2.8 Odor EmissionWhen tested in accordance with TestMethod C 1304, th

33、procedures in Test Method C 1258, shallnot exhibit (a) corrosion of the facing, (b) delamination of thefacing, or (c) lack of adhesion of facing to insulation.C991032NOTE 4Facing properties are not part of this specification. Workmanship7.1 Both Type I and Type II material shall indicate goodworkmanship in fabrication and shall not have visible defectsthat adversely affect its serviceability.8. Sampling8.1 Quality control records, maintaine

35、d by the manufac-turer, will usually suffice in the relationship between thepurchaser and the manufacturer. If they mutually agree toaccept lots on the basis of quality control records, no furthersampling is required.8.2 If the above procedure is not acceptable, sampling shallbe in conformance with

36、Criteria C 390.9. Inspection9.1 Inspection of the material shall be agreed upon betweenthe purchaser and the supplier as part of the purchase contract.10. Rejection and Rehearing10.1 Material that fails to conform to the requirements ofthis specification shall constitute cause for rejection. Rejecti

37、onshall be reported to the producer or supplier promptly and inwriting.10.2 The producer or supplier shall have the option toreinspect rejected shipments and resubmit the entire lot forinspection and resampling after the removal and replacementof nonconforming portions.11. Certification11.1 When spe

38、cified in the purchase order or contract, aproducers, suppliers or independent third partys certificationshall be furnished to the purchaser indicating that the materialwas manufactured, sampled, tested, and inspected in accor-dance with this specification and has been found to meet therequirements.

39、 When specified in the purchase order or contract,a report of the test results shall be furnished.12. Health and Safety Hazards12.1 The manufacturer shall provide the users with infor-mation regarding any hazards and recommended protectivemeasures to be employed for safe installation and use of them

40、aterial.13. Product Marking13.1 Unless otherwise specified, the package shall bemarked with the sellers name and designation, length, width,thickness, R-value, total number of square feet, manufacturingdate code, surface burning characteristics and, if applicable,type of facing.14. Packaging14.1 Unl

41、ess otherwise agreed or specified between thepurchaser and the manufacturer or seller, the insulation shall bepacked in the manufacturers standard commercial container.14.2 If there is residual moisture in the product at the timeof packaging, the package shall be suitably vented to allow forthe diss

42、ipation of the moisture.15. Storage15.1 The material shall be stored in accordance with themanufacturers recommendations unless otherwise agreedupon between the purchaser and manufacturer.15.2 If there are no manufacturers recommended storagerequirements, the material shall be stored in such a manne

43、r asto protect the package from direct sunlight, and from weatherand temperature extremes.16.
