、THODS21. Material21.1 Accept the supplier certification that the material is of the correct classification as specified in Specification D578. Verifythat the fiber is continuous filament, if not specified otherwise, during testing for strand construction as directed in Section 24.Determine the freed

、om from detrimental impurities during the inspection for fabric appearances as directed in Section 35.22. Filament Diameter22.1 Determine the filament diameter for the braided tubular sleeving yarns as directed in Specification D578 by using 50individual filaments from one yarn specimen from each of

Yarn Number-Sleeving Component Yarns23.1 Determine the size-free yarn number in tex (oror yards per pound)pound of the yarns in the braided tubular sleeving asdirected in Test Method D1907, Option 1, using a skein length of 1 m or 1

、yd for each specimen and one specimen from each ofthe selected tubes or serving spools in the laboratory sample.23.1.1 Precondition by placing test specimens in a muffle furnace and heat to 625 6 25C (11571157 6 45F)45F for 15 min, then cool to room temperature for 15 min.24. Strand Construction24.1

、Verify the number of singles strands and the number of plied or cabled strands on one test specimen from each of theD581/D581M 123selected tubes or serving spools in the laboratory sample while determining the twist direction or twist level. Ends Per Carrier27.1 Verify the ends per carrier in the braided tubular sleeving for one test specimen from each of the selected tubes or servingspool

、s in the laboratory sample. This is determined by cutting through a length of braided tubular sleeving at right angles to theaxis of the braided sleeving and then counting the number of cut yarn ends observed in each weave of the braided tubular sleeving.28. Number of Carriers28.1 Verify the number

、of carriers in the braided tubular sleeving for one test specimen from each of the selected tubes orserving spools in the laboratory sample. This is determined while making ends per carrier determinations and counting the totalnumber of cut yarn ends observed and dividing by the ends per carrier.29.

、 Picks Per Unit Length29.1 Determine the picks per centimetre (pickspicks per inch)inch of the braided tubular sleeving as directed in Test MethodD3775 using three test specimens from each of the selected tubes or serving spools in the laboratory sample except:29.1.1 Measure the number of picks per

、centimetre (pickspicks per inch)inch over a 75-mm (3-in.)3-in. length after thebraided tubular sleeving has been placed snugly upon a mandrel having the same diameter as the specified inside diameter of thesleeving. Use a standard pick counter in counting the number of picks per centimetre (pickspic

、ks per inch).inch. Take the averageof the three measurements as the number of picks per centimetre (pickspicks per inch)inch 25 mm (1 in.). 1 in.NOTE 2“Picks” is a common term used by industry when referring to the yarn crossover points laying crosswise in braided tubular sleeving createdby the brai

、ding action.30. Inside Diameter30.1 Determine the inside diameter of the braided tubular sleeving as directed in Test Methods D350, using one test specimenfrom each of the selected tubes or serving spools in the laboratory sample.31. Wall Thickness31.1 Determine the wall thickness of the braided tubular sleeving as directed in Test Methods D350, using one test specimenfrom each of the selected tubes or serving spools.32.
