3、This specification covers requirements and methods oftest for materials, dimensions and tolerances, hydrostatic-burststrength, chemical resistance, and longitudinal tensile proper-ties, for reinforced epoxy resin pipe and fittings for use in gasmains and services for direct burial and insertion appl

4、ications.The pipe and fittings covered by this specification are intendedfor use in the distribution of natural gas, petroleum fuels(propaneair and propanebutane vapor mixtures), manufac-tured and mixed gases where resistance to gas permeation,toughness, resistance to corrosion, aging, and deteriora

5、tionfrom water, gas, and gas additives are required. Methods ofmarking are also given. 18、e abbreviation RTRP followed by type andgrade in arabic numerals, class by a capital letter and the longterm steady pressure strength by a second capital letter. Thefittings material designation shall consist of the abbreviationRTRF followed by type (method of manufacture), grade(general type of res

19、in), class (configuration of joining system),and pressure rating.4. Classification4.1 PipeThe pipe covered in this specification is made bythe filament winding process and is described in SpecificationD2996. Requirements of this pipe are based on short-term testsdefined in this specification.4.2 Fit

20、tingsThis specification covers a) reinforced epoxyresin fittings described in specification D5685 and made of thetype of materials covered in Section 5, and b) metal fittingswhich have been designed and tested in accordance with theprovisions of The Department of Transportation Title 49 of TheCode o

21、f Federal Regulations Part 192 Transportation ofNatural Gas and Other Gas by Pipeline: Minimum FederalSafety Standards, which are capable of being joined to the pipeand will provide a suitable gas distribution system.5. Materials5.1 The resins and reinforcements used to make pipe shallbe as specifie

22、d in 5.1.1.5.1.1 This specification covers glass fiber reinforced epoxyresin pipe and fittings as defined in Specification D2996 asType 1; Grade 1; Classes A, C, and H; and Hydrostatic DesignBasis U, W, X, Y, and Z Example: RTRP 11 HZ and fittingsas defined in specification D5685-RTRF 11A1D, RTRF21A

23、1D, RTRF 11F2D and RTRF 21A2D.NOTE 2The particular reinforced thermosetting resin included ini-tially in this specification for gas pressure piping was selected on the basisof engineering test studies made by Battelle Memorial Institute, experi-mental use in field installations, and technical data s

24、upplied by themanufacturers of the plastics materials used to make the pipe and fittings.It is the intent of ASTM Committee D-20 on Plastics to consider forinclusion other resins and reinforcements in this specification whenevidence is presented to show that they are suitable for gas service.Minimum

25、 requirements are an ASTM pipe specification and long-termstrength determined in accordance with Test Method D2992, Procedure B,in addition to the requirements of this specification.6. Requirements6.1 WorkmanshipThe pipe and fittings shall be free ofvisible cracks, holes, foreign inclusions, blister

26、s, and otherinjurious defects. The pipe and fittings shall be as uniform ascommercially practicable in color, opacity, density, and otherphysical properties.6.2 Pipe Dimensions and Tolerances:6.2.1 DiametersThe outside diameter of the pipe shall bein accordance with Table 1 when measured in accordan

27、ce with8.4.1.6.2.2 Wall ThicknessThe wall thickness of the pipe shallmeet the requirements given in Table 1 when measured inaccordance with 8.4.1.6.2.3 LengthsThe pipe shall be in lengths as specified onthe purchase order when measured in accordance with 8.4.1.NOTE 3Either threaded adaptors or bonde

28、d joints are acceptable.Jointers of up to 5 % of the shipment are acceptable to meet the lengthrequirements. No section less than 1.5 m (5 ft) long can be used to makea joint and only one jointer can be used in a length.6.3 Fittings Dimensions and Tolerances The fittings di-mensions shall enable the

29、 pipe and fittings to be joined andshall be measured in accordance with 8.4.2.NOTE 4Subcommittee D 20.23 is working towards development ofdimensional requirements for fittings; however, it will be some timebefore the requirements are available. Therefore, the method of measuringis provided only to h

30、ave a standard method of measuring fittingsdimensions for inspection purposes.6.4 Short-Term Rupture Strength (Burst Pressure)Theminimum hoop stress at burst for pipe covered by thisspecification shall be as listed in Table 2 when tested inaccordance with 8.5. The minimum burst requirements forfitti

31、ngs covered by this specification shall be 4.82 MPa (700psi) internal pressure or 27.5 MPa (4000 psi) hoop tensilestress, whichever is greater, when tested in accordance with 8.5at temperatures of 23C (73.4F) and 65.6C (150F), andcalculated using the equation listed in Test Method D1599 forhoop stre

32、ss. The calculations shall use the fittings wall thick-ness and diameter at a point where the wall thickness is at aminimum and which is also in the section of the fittings whichis not reinforced by the pipe.6.5 Crush StrengthThe minimum stiffness factor at 5 %deflection of the pipe shall be as show

35、Chemical ResistanceThe pipe shall not change morethan 612 % in apparent tensile strength when measured inaccordance with 8.7.NOTE 5A suitable chemical resistance test for fittings is not availableat the present time and will be added when available.6.7 Longitudinal (Tensile Strength)The minimum long

36、i-tudinal tensile strength for pipe covered by this specificationshall be as listed in Table 2 when tested in accordance with TestMethod D2105.6.8 Hydrostatic CollapseThe minimum factor for pipecovered by this specification shall be as listed in Table 2 whentested in accordance with Test Method D292

37、4.7. Adhesive Requirements7.1 Adhesives used to join reinforced epoxy resin pipe shallbe suitable for use with the pipe and fittings and meet therequirements listed in 7.2 and 7.3.NOTE 6It is recommended that the working (pot) life of the adhesivebe agreed upon between the purchaser and the manufact

38、urer.7.2 Adhesive TestAll adhesives covered by this specifica-tion shall have a minimum ultimate shear strength of 10.3 MPa(1500 psi) when tested in accordance with 8.8.7.3 PackagingEach adhesive kit shall contain the neces-sary components and instruction sheets, which shall includecure times and po

39、t life.8. Test Methods8.1 SamplingTake a sample of the pipe and fittingssufficient to determine conformance with this specification.About 15 m (50 ft) of pipe or tubing are required to make thetests prescribed. The number of fittings required varies, de-pending upon the size and type of fitting. It

40、is suggested that asampling plan be agreed upon by the purchaser and themanufacturer (see Practice D1898).8.2 ConditioningUnless otherwise specified, conditionthe specimens prior to test at 23 6 2C (73.4 6 3.6F) and 506 5 % relative humidity for not less than 48 h, in accordancewith Procedure A of P

41、ractice D618 for those tests whereconditioning is required and in all cases of disagreement.8.3 Test ConditionsConduct the tests in the StandardLaboratory Atmosphere of 23 6 2C (73.4 6 3.6F), unlessotherwise specified.8.4 Dimensions and Tolerances:8.4.1 Wall Thickness and DiameterDetermine in accor-

42、dance with Practice D3567.8.4.2 Liner ThicknessWhen the test specimens contain aliner, determine the average liner thickness in accordance withPractice D3567.8.5 Short-Term Hydrostatic Failure Strength (MinimumHoop Stress)Determine in accordance with Test MethodD1599. Fittings shall be tested with p

43、ipe nipples bonded in thesockets.8.6 Apparent Tensile PropertiesThe apparent tensilestrength shall be determined in accordance with Procedure B ofTest Method D2290.8.7 Chemical ResistanceDetermine the resistance to thefollowing chemicals in accordance with Procedure II of TestMethod D543, except use

44、 ring specimens cut from pipe for thispurpose:Chemical Concentration, %Fuel Oil No. 1 (Specification D396) 100t-butyl mercaptan 5 in fuel oilAntifreeze agents (at least one shall be used):Methanol 100Isopropanol 100Ethylene glycol 100Cut specimens from the pipe in accordance with 8.6; test fivespeci

45、mens with each reagent. Coat specimen edges withadhesive prior to immersion. Completely immerse the speci-mens in the chemicals for 72 h. Upon removal from thechemicals, wipe the specimens with a clean dry cloth, condi-tion in the testing room for a period not to exceed 2 h, and thentest in tension

46、in accordance with 8.6.8.8 Adhesive TestThe ultimate shear strength for adhe-sives used to bond pipe and fittings together shall be deter-mined in accordance with the following procedure; it isapplicable to all adhesives covered by this specification.8.8.1 PrincipleLaboratory shear specimens are mad

47、e bybonding together two 3 by 13 by 75-mm (18 by12 by 3-in.),reinforced thermosetting plastic laminates using the suppliedadhesive kits. This specimen is then cured in accordance withinstructions supplied with the adhesive. After curing, thespecimen is pulled apart in a universal testing machine.8.8

48、.2 Test SpecimenThe test specimen shall be madeusing longitudinally reinforced epoxy resin laminates that aremade of the same materials as the pipe with dimensions of 5 by13 by 75 mm (18 by12 by 3 in.). Each specimen shall have abonding surface on one end made by milling off 5 mils of thesurface for

49、 a length of 2 mm (34 in.). Test a minimum of fivetest specimens.8.8.3 Procedure:8.8.3.1 Clean the milled surfaces of two 75-mm (3-in.) longlaminates using solvent supplied with adhesive.8.8.3.2 Mix the adhesive components in accordance withinstructions supplied with the adhesives.8.8.3.3 Wet the cleaned surface of the laminates with themixed adhesive.8.8.3.4 Press the adhesive-coated areas of the laminatestogether, maintaining alignment of edges and clamp so that thespecimen is held together using uniform pressure.
