Scope1.1 This specification covers the

3、requirements for vinyl-coated glass yarn insect screening and louver cloth.1.2 This specification is intended to assist ultimate users bydesignating the sizes and types of these products that aregenerally available in the industry.1.3 This specification shows the terminology and require-ments for:1.

4、3.1 Commercial standard vinyl-coated glass yarn insectscreening designed and woven primarily for installation in oron any dwelling, patio, screening enclosure, building, orstructure for the purpose of keeping out flies, mosquitoes, andmost insects.1.3.2 Vinyl-coated glass yarn louver cloth used exte

5、nsivelyin soffit and louver vents to keep out most large insects, birds,and airborne litter, while at the same time providing foradequate ventilation and air circulation.1.4 This specification shows the values in both SI units andinch-pound units. “SI units” is the technically correct name fora syst

6、em of metric units known as the International System ofUnits. “Inch-pound units” is the technically correct name forthe customary units used in the United States.The values statedin inch-pound units are to be regarded as the standard. Thevalue in SI units are provided for information only.1.5 The fo

Terminology3.1 Definitions:3.1.1 atmosphere for testing textiles, nfor glass, air main-tained at a relative humidity of at least 48 % and no greaterthan 67 %, and at a temperature of at least 20C (68F) and nogreate

17、r than 25C (77F).3.1.1.1 DiscussionGlass textiles are used in various prod-ucts, such as reinforced plastics, mat-like material, tire cords,electrical insulation, etc. Each of these materials requiredifferent testing atmospheres. It is the intent of the wide spreadin testing atmosphere to allow test

18、ing of glass textiles inrespective laboratories where end product test atmosphererequirements differ. The test atmospheres for respective prod-ucts should be controlled as specified in Practice D 1776.Itisthe opinion of Subcommittee D13.18 that the physical proper-ties cited in respective specificat

19、ions would not be affected bythe range selected. In any event, the test atmosphere should bestated in the report.3.1.2 insect screening, nin coated glass yarn fabrics,awoven netting having an approximately even-spaced mesh of12 by 12 yarns or more per 25 mm (1 in.).3.1.3 louver cloth, nin coated gla

20、ss yarn fabrics, a wovennetting having an approximately even-spaced mesh of fewerthan 12 by 12 yarns per 25 mm (1 in.).3.1.4 mesh, nin coated glass yarn fabrics, the number ofwarp yarns or ends per linear 25 mm (1 in.) followed by thenumber of filling yarns or picks per linear 25 mm (1 in.).3.1.5 Fo

21、r terminology of other textile terms used in thisspecification, refer to Terminology D 123.4. Classification4.1 Vinyl-coated glass yarn insect screening is produced intwo basic classes and mesh to afford required strength andinsect protection using yarns as directed in SpecificationD 3374. These two

22、 classes are as follows:4.1.1 Class 1Insect screening woven from vinyl-coatedglass yarn having a nominal thickness of 0.292 mm (0.0115in.).4.1.2 Class 2Insect screening woven from vinyl-coatedglass yarn having a nominal thickness of 0.330 mm (0.013 in.).4.2 The mesh, width, and colors are listed in

23、Table 1.4.2.1 For vinyl-coated glass yarn insect screening not listedin Table 1, the mesh, width, and colors shall be agreed uponbetween the purchaser and supplier.5. Sampling and Test Specimens5.1 SamplingOn a continual basis, samples are selectedrandomly from each mesh and tested to insure complia

24、nce,unless otherwise agreed upon between the purchaser and thesupplier.5.2 Test SpecimensFor insect screening or louver clothappearance, width, and length testing, a roll shall serve as thetest specimen. For other properties, take the test specimen(s)from the roll. No specimen shall be taken closer

25、than 25 mm (1in.) from the edge or 0.9 m (1 yd) from the end of the roll.REQUIREMENTS6. General Requirements6.1 Material:6.1.1 WorkmanshipInsect screening or louver cloth shallbe made utilizing input yarns that meet the requirementsspecified in Specification D 3374. Products may contain amaximum of

26、one defect in the filling direction affecting lessthan 50 lineal mm (2 lineal in.). Examples of defects are listedin Table 2.6.1.2 PlasticizersThe material used to coat or impregnatethe fibrous glass yarn shall be a compound of polymerized orcopolymerized vinyl chloride resin, plasticized with phosp

27、hateor phthalate ester plasticizers exclusively, pigmented andstabilized to meet the requirements herein.6.1.2.1 Optional PlasticizerAt the suppliers option, plas-ticizers other than phosphates and phthalates may be usedprovided the color is not affected and the coating compound istreated with solub

28、ilized copper 8 quinolinolate which is listedas inhibitor (e) in Federal Standard CCC-D-950. The amountof fungicide shall be based on the nonvolatile content of thecoating. The coating compound shall be chemically analyzedfor copper 8 quinolinolate content in accordance with FederalStandard CCC-D-95

29、0.6.1.3 ColorThe maximum and minimum shades limitsshall be defined by color designations listed in FederalStandard 595A as agreed upon between the purchaser andsupplier.6.1.3.1 The color designated grey shall fall between No.36492 and No. 36173 as listed in Federal Standard 595A.6.1.4 SelvageVinyl-c

30、oated glass insect screening and lou-ver cloth may be supplied with or without selvages as agreedbetween the purchaser and supplier.6.1.5 Yarn SplicesVinyl-coated glass yarn splices shall bepermitted provided they show no tails and do not exceed 25mm (1 in.) in length. Yarn splices in the insect scr

31、eening orlouver cloth shall not exceed 15 per standard 30 m (100 ft) roll,and no more than one splice shall occur in any 930 cm2(1 ft2)of product.6.2 Put-UpVinyl-coated glass yarn insect screening andlouver cloth shall be put-up on rolls that may be placed incontainers whose dimensions shall be agre

Physical Requirements7.1 AppearanceUnless otherwise agreed upon betweenthe purchaser and the supplier, a roll shall be defective if itcontains two or more defects as described in 6.1.1.7.2 MeshThe standard average mesh shall be approxi-mately even-spaced as specifi

34、ed in Table 1 60.5 mesh per 25mm (1 in.). There are no tolerance requirements within 13 mm(0.5 in.) of the selvage.7.3 Roll LengthEach roll of insect screening or louvercloth complying with Specification D 3656 shall contain 30linear m 0, +0.6 m (100 linear ft 0, +2.1 ft).7.4 WidthThe standard avera

35、ge roll width shall be asspecified in Table 1 +7 or 0 mm (+0.25 in. or 0 in.).7.5 Mass per Unit AreaThe minimum average mass perunit area for each class shall be as specified in Table 3.7.6 Flame ResistanceThere shall be no propagation offlame along any specimen for longer than 10 s after removal of

36、the flame source and no single specimen may propagate flamealong its entire length in any time increment.7.7 Fabric StabilityThe yarns shall be bonded at eachcontact point. The fabric stability of the finished product shallbe determined in accordance with Test Method D 4912 andmeet the requirements

37、as specified in Table 3.7.8 Bursting StrengthThe minimum average burstingstrength of the finished product in its original state and after480 h of exposure to color stability after accelerated weather-ing as directed in Section 19 shall be as specified in Table 3.7.9 Stiffness IndexThe minimum and ma

38、ximum averagestiffness values are referenced in Table 4.7.10 Color Stability after Accelerated WeatheringThechange from the original color of the standard gray andcharcoal, after 480 h of accelerated weathering exposure shallbe no greater than step 3, and after 960 h of acceleratedweathering exposur

Conditioning8.1 Condition the laboratory samples without precondition-ing for a period of at least5hi

48、ntheatmosphere for testingglass textiles as directed in Practice D 1776, unless otherwisespecified.NOTE 2In any event, 24 h is considered ample exposure time to bringthe samples to moisture equilibrium.9. Put-Up9.1 Verify that the rolls and shipping containers conform tothe inspection agreement in t

49、he purchasers plant.10. Appearance10.1 Before doing any other testing, determine the appear-ance as directed in the procedure described in SpecificationD 4028. Count all defects of the types as described in 6.1.1 andin Table 2 regardless of their proximity to each other, exceptwhere two or more defects represent a single local condition inthe screening. In such cases, count only the most seriousdefect.11. Mesh11.1 Determine the mesh as directed in Test MethodD 3775. Count the number of warp yarns in 25 mm (1 in.) offabric width in five randoml
