3、ed inthe fabrication of end items or parts.1. Scope1.1 This specification covers requirements and test methodsfor the material, dimensions, and workmanship, and the prop-erties of extruded and compression molded plate, rod, andtubular bar manufactured from polycarbonate.1.2 This specification is not

4、 intended to cover materials usedin glazing and signage as defined in 3.2.1 and 3.2.6. It isintended to be a means of calling out mechanical grade plasticproducts used for fabrication of end items or parts as defined in3.2.2.1.3 The properties included in this specification are thoserequired for the

5、 compositions covered. Requirements neces-sary to identify particular characteristics important to special-ized applications may be described by using the classificationsystem given in Section 4.1.4 This specification allows for the use of recycled plasticsas defined in Guide D 5033.21.5 The values

6、stated in inch-pound units are to be regardedas the standard in all property and dimensional tables. Forreference purposes, SI units are also included in Table S-PCand Table 1 only.1.6 The following precautionary caveat pertains only to thetest method portions, Section 12, of this specification. Classification and Material4.1 Product shape and size as defined in the applicablepurchase order.4.2 This specification covers product extruded and compres-sion molded as listed in Table S-PC. Products included in thedesignations reference Specification D 3935 callouts wherea

19、pplicable.4.2.1 The type of polycarbonate shape product may becategorized by type, grade and class depending on resin andfiller compositions as defined in Table S-PC.4.2.2 Each type of polycarbonate shape may be categorizedinto one of several grades as follows:4.2.2.1 Grade 1General PurposeExtruded

20、or compres-sion molded product made using only 100 % virgin polycar-bonate resin.4.2.2.2 Grade 2RecycledExtruded or compressionmolded product made using any amount up to 100 % recycledpolycarbonate plastics.4.3 The type, class and grade is further differentiated basedon dimensional stability (elevat

21、ed temperature excursion test),Table S-PC, and dimensional requirements, Tables A and B.4.4 Property Tables:4.4.1 Table S-PC may be used to describe both extruded orcompression molded products.4.4.2 Table 1 may also be used to describe extruded orcompression molded products not included in Table S-P

22、C via acell callout that includes the applicable Table S-PC polycar-bonate type and specific properties (Designations 17).4.4.3 To facilitate the incorporation of future or specialmaterials not covered by Table S-PC, the “as specified”category (00) for type, class and grade is shown in the tablewith

28、)3 = Izod Impact (1.0 ft-lb/in. of notch)0 = Unspecified4.5.2 These two examples illustrate how a one-line, alpha-numeric sequence can identify the product composition, com-mercial parameters and physical characteristics of extruded orcompression molded product. A space must be used as aseparator be

29、tween the specification number and the typedesignation. No separators are needed between type, class andgrade. When special notes are to be included, such informationshould be preceded by a comma. Special tolerances must benoted at the time of order and are inserted after the grade inparenthesis and

30、 preceded by a comma.5. Ordering Information5.1 All shapes covered by this specification shall be orderedusing the proper callout designation (see 4.5).6. Physical Property Requirements6.1 The physical property values listed within this specifi-cations tables are to be considered minimum specificati

31、onvalues. Any requirement for specific test data for a givenproduction lot should be specified at the time of order. PhysicalD 6098 97 (2003)2properties for products not yet included in Table S-PC may bespecified using Table 1 for extruded or compression moldedproducts.7. Dimensional Requirements7.1

32、 The type, class and grade is differentiated based ondimensional stability (elevated temperature excursion test), asindicated in Table S-PC.7.2 Products shall be produced within commercial toler-ances and with the lowest stress levels for machined parts asdelineated in Tables A-1, B-1, and B-2.7.3 T

33、ubular bar dimensions shall be supplied in the unfin-ished condition, unless otherwise specified at time of order,sufficient to finish to the nominal dimension ordered.7.4 The maximum allowable camber and/or bow shall bewithin the limits referenced in Tables A-1, B-1, and B-2.8. Workmanship, Finish,

34、 and Appearance8.1 AppearanceThe resin material color is transparentwith water-white or light straw color. Natural resin is alsooffered with various amounts of blue tinting. The product colorshall be as published by the shapes manufacturer. They shall beuniform in color throughout the thickness. Spe

35、cific colors andcolor matching only as agreed to by order.8.1.1 Physical properties, although unaffected by tinting,may be affected by other colors.8.2 FinishAll products shall be free of blisters, wrinkles,cracks, gouges and defects that restrict commercial use of theproduct. Special surface finish

36、 shall be supplied only whenspecified in the purchase order or contract.8.3 DefectsAll products shall be free of voids, dirt,foreign material and embedded particles exceeding 0.040 in.maximum diameter as defined in 8.3.1.8.3.1 The criteria for determining the internal cleanlinessshall be external vi

37、sual inspection. A maximum number of twointernal defects per square foot of plate and one foot length ofrod and tubular bar are allowed. Clusters of defects less than0.040 in. diameter are to be counted as a single defect.8.3.2 For compression molded products, four defects up to0.080 in. diameter pe

38、r square foot of plate are allowed.9. Sampling9.1 Sampling shall be statistically adequate to satisfy therequirements of this specification as applicable (see ANSI Z1.4- 1993).9.2 For purposes of sampling, an inspection lot for exami-nation and tests shall consist of all material of the same type,cl

39、ass, grade and nominal size submitted for inspection at onetime.10. Number of Tests10.1 Routine lot inspection shall consist of all the criteriaspecified in the applicable product tables.10.2 The criteria listed in these product tables and defini-tions are sufficient to establish conformity of the s

40、heet, plate,rod or tubular bars to this specification. When the number oftest specimens is not stated in the test method, a singledetermination may be made. If more than single determinationsand separate portions of the same sample are made, the resultsshall be averaged. The final result shall confo

41、rm to therequirements prescribed in this specification.11. Test Conditions11.1 Conditioning of SpecimensThe specification valuesand dimensions are based on conditioning techniques outlinedin Procedure A of Practice D 618.11.2 Standard TemperatureThe tests shall be conducted atthe standard laboratory

42、 temperature of 73.4 6 3.6F 23 62C and 50 6 5 % relative humidity.12. Test Methods12.1 Test tensile strength at break, elongation at break, andtensile modulus (tangent) in accordance with Test Method D638, at the rate of 0.2 in./min.12.1.1 Test all plate specimens in accordance with Type I ofTest Me

43、thod D 638.12.1.2 Test all rod specimens in accordance with TestMethod D 638.12.1.3 Test all tubular bar specimens in accordance withTest Method D 638.12.2 Dimensional Stability:12.2.1 Specimen Preparation (a Minimum of Three TestSamples Required):12.2.1.1 Rods and Tubular BarPrepare each specimen b

44、ycutting a 1.5 in. long slice from the shape to be tested. Machinethe slice using a coolant and good machining practices to alength of 1.000 6 0.005 in. Each end of the specimen shallhave a machined surface.12.2.1.2 PlateEach specimen shall consist ofa2in.diameter disc machined from the flat (diamet

45、er shall equal testspecimen thickness with a minimum of 2.0 in.). The same careshall be used in the machining as described in 12.1.1. Thethickness of the specimen shall be that of the original flat fromwhich it was cut, no machining being done on the top orbottom faces.12.2.2 Testing ProcedureMeasur

46、e the outside diameterand thickness or length of the specimen as applicable at 73.4 61.8F 23 6 1C to the nearest 0.0001 in. All measurementsshall be done on the centerline and 90 from the center line forplate. Also take measurements for thickness halfway to center,and for diameter at mid-point. Plac

47、e the specimen in a bathconsisting of polyalkylene glycol or an air circulating ovenheated to 250 6 5F 121 6 3C. After 6 h, allow thespecimen to slowly cool to room temperature at a rate not toexceed 40F 22C / h. Measure the specimen at 73.4 6 1.8F23 6 1C and calculate the percent change in each dim

48、en-sion.12.3 Lengthwise Camber and Widthwise Bow12.3.1 Make all measurements for camber and bow usingthe maximum distance rod, sheet or plate deviates from thestraight line extended from edge to edge when measured inaccordance with 12.3.2. The shape shall be oriented such thatthe weight of the produ

49、ct does not influence the results.12.3.2 Rod and Plate:12.3.2.1 RodLay each rod on its side and measure it withconcave side facing a straight edge.
