Chemical Composition4.1 This wire shall conform to the requirements as tochemical composition prescribed in Table 1.5. Physical Properties5.1 Te
8、nsile StrengthThe tensile strength of a 10-in. (250-mm) gage length of wire in grams-force per milligram per 200mm shall be within the limits prescribed in Table 2, whentested in accordance with 8.2.5.2 General Ductility RequirementsThe ductility of wireshall be sufficient to meet the following requ
9、irements:5.2.1 Wire Sizes up to 75 mg/200 mm, inclSix 1-m lengthsshall be tested in accordance with 8.3.1. The wire shall notbreak more than two times in the six tests. Where required, alower limit may be negotiated between purchaser and seller.5.2.2 Wire Sizes over 75 mg/200 mmThirty successiveclos
10、e-wound turns completely around mandrels shall be freefrom splitting or cracking when tested in accordance with 8.3.2and examined at a magnification of 30.5.3 Special Ductility RequirementsWire for certain appli-cations requires a special ductility as agreed upon between thepurchaser and the seller.

Size, Straightness, and Tolerances6.1 Dimensional tolerances for wire for use as incandescentfilaments shall conform to the requirements prescribed in Table3.NOTE 2Tolerances are industry standards; closer tolerances may beobtained in certain instances, usually at a premium.6.2 StraightnessStraig
12、htness of wire 3.00 mg/200 mm andlarger shall be specified as the radius of curvature or camber ofa given length of wire as agreed upon between the purchaserand supplier. For wire under 3.00 mg/200 mm, alternativemethods may be used as agreed upon between the purchaserand supplier.1This specificatio

Workmanship, Finish, and Appearance7.1 General Requirements:7.1.1 The material shall be as smooth, as free of twists,bends, curls, kinks, and as free, when examined at 30, fromdents, swaging marks, scratches, swaging die marks, laps,sea
16、ms, splits, slivers, inclusions, bumps, pits, grooves, cracks,and other physical defects as best commercial practice willpermit.7.1.2 Unless black finish is specified, all types of wire shallbe free of graphite, grease, and oil. All finishes shall be as freeof dirt, oxide, stains, scale, and other s
17、urface defects as bestcommercial practice permits. Refer to 8.4 for inspectionmethods.7.2 FinishThe wire shall be furnished in the followingfinishes:7.2.1 Finish 1Black,7.2.2 Finish 2Chemically cleaned,7.2.3 Finish 3Chemically cleaned and stress relieved,7.2.4 Finish 4Reducing atmosphere cleaned and

Test Methods8.1 Chemical AnalysisDetermine gravimetrically or by acombination of spectrochemical and gravimetric analyses.8.2 Tensile StrengthDetermine the tensile strength of thewire in accordance with Section 8 of Method F219. Use a flatblack background when tes
19、ting fine wire below 0.005 in. (0.13mm) in diameter.8.3 DuctilityDetermine the ductility of the wire as fol-lows:8.3.1 Wire up to 75 mg/200 mm, inclDraw the wire over a90 steel bar edge having a radius approximately equal to thediameter of the wire to be tested. Hold the wire against theedge of the
20、bar with the thumb and draw the wire at an angleof 45 to the bar edge at a rate of approximately 1 m/s until thetension on the wire is sufficient to cause a tight helical coil tobe formed after the tension is released (see 5.2.1).8.3.2 Wire over 75 mg/200 mmWind 30 successive close-wound turns compl
21、etely around mandrels of sizes as specifiedin Table 4 at the recommended forming temperatures. Splittingor cracking indicates failure (see 5.2.2).8.4 Visual InspectionCheck conformance of the wire tothe requirements specified in 7.1.2 by visual inspection, exceptthat wire used as hooks, supports, sp

28、ayarrive at the manufacturers plant in the same condition as itleft.10. Coiling and Spooling10.1 Spools and bands shall be clean and free from openseams or projections which might catch or tangle the wireduring winding.10.2 Wire shall be furnished in one continuous length andwound smoothly with no l
29、oose turns. There shall be no pilingup of turns such as to prevent free unwinding or cause kinks orbends when the wire is removed from the spool. The outer endshall be attached firmly to the spool or band by suitable means.10.3 The size of spool, band, or coil for all sizes of wireshall conform to t
30、he requirements specified in Table 5.10.4 Excepting Finish 5, no spools or bands in any oneshipment shall contain less than 100 m of wire for sizes 0.49mg/200 mm and under; not less than 200 m of wire for sizes0.50 mg to 50 mg/200 mm inclusive; and not less than 100 mof wire for sizes over 50 to 100
31、 mg/200 mm, inclusive. Forwire sizes above 100 mg/200 mm, each spool or band shallcontain not less than 50 g of wire.11. Product Marking11.1 Each spool or band shall be marked with the followinginformation:11.1.1 Name of manufacturer,11.1.2 Wire size in milligrams per 200 mm or the diameter(in inche
