Scope1.1 This practice covers a standard course for the training ofthe emergency medical technician which will prepare a personto perform those ski

Description of the Term Specific to This Standard3.1 emergency medical technician (EMT) (NHTSA)Theprimary focus of the Emergency Medical Technician is toprovide basic emergency medical care and transportation forcritical and emergent patients who access the emergencymed

This individual possesses the basic knowledgeand skills necessary to provide patient care and transportation.Emergency Medical Technicians function as part of a compre-hensive EMS response, under medical oversight. EmergencyMedical Technicians perform interventions with the basicequipme

8、nt typically found on an ambulance. The EmergencyMedical Technician is a link from the scene to the emergencyhealth care system. Emergency Medical Technicians scope ofpractice includes basic, non-invasive interventions to reducethe morbidity and mortality associated with acute out-of-hospital medica

9、l and traumatic emergencies. Emergency care isbased on assessment findings.4. Significance and Use4.1 The purpose of this practice is to provide standardizedmeans of providing Emergency Medical Technician training.The practice should be used by all individuals and agencies thattrain such persons.4.2

10、 Successful completion of this course of training neitherconstitutes nor implies certification or licensure.4.3 This practice adopts the knowledge and skill objectivescontained in the NHSTA curriculum (latest version) as thestandard practice for training those persons who provideemergency medical ca

11、re at the basic life support level and areknown as emergency medical technicians . The actual lessonplans contained in the referenced document are recommendedfor use; however, each instructor may modify the order ofpresentation according to local needs.4.4 This practice outlines a comprehensive cour

12、se thatcovers most common emergencies encountered by the emer-gency medical technician. Emergency Medicine Techniciancourses that do not include all of the knowledge and skillobjectives of this practice may not be referred to as meetingthis standard.5. Contents of Course5.1 The practice for training

13、 the emergency medical techni-cian is a course consisting of, at a minimum, the knowledgeand skill objectives contained in NHSTA curriculum (latestversion). The knowledge and skill objectives are listed at thebeginning of each of the designated lessons contained in thedocument. The course shall also

14、 include the objectives listed inthe In-hospital Clinical Guidelines, Appendix C, of NHSTAcurriculum (latest version).1This practice is under the jurisdiction of ASTM Committee F30 on EmergencyMedical Services and is the direct responsibility of Subcommittee F30.02 onPersonnel, Training and Educatio
