Scope*1.1 This specification covers the requirements for commer-cial wrought nonferrous nuts in nominal thread diameters M6to M36 inclusive in a number of alloys in common use andintended for general service applications.1

Materials and Manufacture4.1 Materials:4.1.1 The nuts shall be manufactured from material havinga c

18、hemical composition conforming to the requirements inTable 1 and capable of developing the required mechanicalproperties for the specified alloy in the nut. See SpecificationB 574 for nickel alloys.4.1.2 The starting condition of the raw material shall be atthe discretion of the fastener manufacture

19、r but shall be suchthat the nuts conform to all the specified requirements.4.2 Manufacture:4.2.1 FormingUnless otherwise specified, the nuts shallbe hot pressed, cold formed, or machined from suitablematerial at the option of the manufacturer.4.2.2 ConditionExcept as provided in 4.2.3, the nuts shal

Chemical Composition5

22、.1 Chemical CompositionThe nuts shall conform to thechemical composition specified in Table 1 for the specifiedalloy.5.2 Manufacturers Analysis:5.2.1 Except as provided in 5.2.2, when test reports arerequired on the inquiry or purchase order (3.1.8), the manu-facturer shall make individual analyses

23、of randomly selectednuts from the product to be shipped and report the results to thepurchaser. Alternatively, if heat and lot identities have beenmaintained, the analysis of the raw material from which thenuts have been manufactured may be reported instead ofproduct analysis.5.2.2 For aluminum nuts

24、, instead of 5.2.1, the manufacturermay furnish a certificate of conformance certifying compliancewith the chemical composition specified in Table 1.5.3 Product Analysis:5.3.1 Product analyses may be made by the purchaser fromnuts representing each lot. The chemical composition thusdetermined shall

25、conform to the requirements in Table 1.5.3.2 In the event of disagreement, a referee chemicalanalysis of samples from each lot shall be made in accordancewith 11.1 and 12.1.6. Mechanical Properties6.1 The nuts shall be tested in accordance with the mechani-cal testing requirements for the applicable

26、 type and shall meetthe mechanical requirements in Table 2 for the specified alloy.6.2 Where both proof load and hardness tests are performed,the proof load test results shall take precedence for acceptancepurposes.7. Dimensions7.1 NutsUnless otherwise specified, the dimensions ofnuts shall be in ac

27、cordance with the requirements of ASMEB 18.2.4.1M.7.2 ThreadsUnless otherwise specified, the nuts shallhave threads in accordance with ASME B 1.13M, toleranceClass 6H.8. Workmanship, Finish, and Appearance8.1 WorkmanshipNuts shall have a workmanlike finishfree of injurious burrs, seams, laps, irregu

28、lar surfaces, andother imperfections affecting serviceability.8.2 FinishUnless otherwise specified, the nuts shall befurnished without any additive chemical or metallic finish.9. Sampling9.1 A lot, for the purposes of selecting test specimens, shallconsist of not more than 100 000 pieces offered for

29、 inspectionat one time having the following common characteristics:9.1.1 One type of item,9.1.2 Same alloy and temper, and9.1.3 One nominal diameter and thread pitch.10. Number of Tests and Retests10.1 Normal TestingThe requirements of this specifica-tion shall be met in continuous mass production f

The manufacturer shall make sample inspections asspecified below to ensure that the product conforms to thespecified requirements. When tests of individual shipment

32、 shall be subject to rejection if any of the testspecimens fails to meet the applicable test requirements.10.2.2 If the failure of a test specimen is due to improperpreparation of the specimen or to incorrect testing technique,the specimen shall be discarded and another specimen substi-tuted.11. Sig

33、nificance of Numerical Limits11.1 For purposes of determining compliance with thespecified limits for requirements of the properties listed in thisspecification, an observed value or calculated value shall berounded in accordance with Practice E29.12. Test Specimens12.1 Chemical TestsWhen required,

34、samples for chemicalanalysis shall be taken in accordance with Practice E55bydrilling, sawing, milling, turning, clipping, or such othermethods capable of producing representative samples.12.2 Mechanical Tests :12.2.1 Nuts shall be proof load tested in full section.12.2.2 The hardness shall be deter

35、mined on the top orbottom face of the nut.13. Test Methods13.1 Chemical AnalysisWhen required, the chemicalcomposition shall be determined by any recognized commer-cial test method. In the event of disagreement, the followingtest methods shall be used for referee purposes.Alloy Test MethodCopper E 5

36、3, E54, E62, E75, E 478Aluminum E34, E 101, E 227Nickel E38, E76, E 354Titanium E 120, E 140913.2 Mechanical:13.2.1 The proof load test shall be conducted in accordancewith the appropriate methods of Test Methods F 606M. Loadsto be determined using Table 2 and Table 4.13.2.2 The hardness shall be de

37、termined in accordance withTest Methods E18and E92. For nominal thread diameters M6to M10, one reading shall be taken. For diameters M12 andlarger, the hardness shall be the average of four readingslocated 90 to one another.14. Inspection14.1 When specified on the inquiry or purchase order, theprodu

38、ct shall be subject to inspection by the purchaser at theplace of manufacture prior to shipment. The inspector repre-senting the purchaser shall have controlled entry only to thoseparts of the manufacturers operations that concern the manu-facture of the ordered product and only when and where worko

39、n the contract of the purchaser is being performed. Themanufacturer shall afford the inspector all reasonable facilitiesto satisfy him that the product is being furnished in accordancewith this specification. All inspections and tests shall beconducted so as not to interfere unnecessarily with the o

40、pera-tions of the manufacturer.15. Rejection and Rehearing15.1 Unless otherwise specified, any rejection based on testsspecified herein and made by the purchaser shall be reported tothe manufacturer as soon as practical after receipt of theproduct by the purchaser.16. Certification and Test Reports1

41、6.1 Certificate of ComplianceWhen specified in thecontract or purchase order, the manufacturer shall furnishcertification that the product was manufactured and tested inaccordance with this specification and conforms to all specifiedrequirements.16.2 Test ReportsWhen “Shipment Lot Testing” in accor-

42、dance with Supplementary Requirement S2 is specified in thecontract or purchase order, the manufacturer shall furnish a testreport showing the results of the mechanical tests for each lotshipped.17. Product, Packaging, and Package Marking17.1 Individual NutsAll products shall be marked with asymbol

43、identifying the manufacturer. In addition, they shall bemarked with the alloy/mechanical property marking specifiedin Table 2. The markings shall be raised or depressed at theoption of the manufacturer.17.2 Packaging:17.2.1 Unless otherwise specified, packaging shall be inaccordance with Practice D

44、3951.17.2.2 When special packaging requirements are requiredby the purchaser, they shall be defined at the time of inquiryand order.17.3 Package MarkingEach shipping unit shall includeor be plainly marked with the following:17.3.1 ASTM specification,17.3.2 Alloy number,17.3.3 Alloy/mechanical proper

45、ty marking,17.3.4 Size,17.3.5 Name and brand or trademark of the manufacturer,17.3.6 Number of pieces,17.3.7 Country of origin, and17.3.8 Purchase order number.18. Keywords18.1 general use; nonferrous; nutsF 467M 06a23SUPPLEMENTARY REQUIREMENTSOne or more of the following supplementary requirements

46、shall be applied only when specified bythe purchaser in the inquiry, contract, or order. Supplementary requirements shall in no way negate anyrequirement of the specification itself.S1. Stress Corrosion Requirements, Copper AlloysS1.1 Copper alloy nuts shall exhibit no evidence of crackingafter imme

47、rsion for 30 min in an aqueous solution of mercu-rous nitrate when tested in accordance with Test MethodB 154.S1.1.1 WarningMercury is a definite health hazard andequipment for the detection and removal of mercury vaporproduced in volatilization is recommended. The use of rubbergloves in testing is

48、advisable.S2. Shipment Lot TestingS2.1 When Supplementary Requirement S2 is specified onthe order (3.1.6), the manufacturer shall make sample tests onthe individual lots for shipment to ensure that the productconforms to the specified requirements.S2.2 The manufacturer shall make an analysis of a ra

49、n-domly selected finished nut from each lot of product to beshipped. Heat or lot control shall be maintained. The analysisof the starting material from which the nuts have beenmanufactured may be reported in place of the product analysis.S2.3 The manufacturer shall perform mechanical propertytests in accordance with this specification and Guide F 1470 onthe individual lots for shipment.S2.4 The manufacturer shall furnish a test report for each lotin the shipment showing the actual results of the chemicalanalysis and mechanical propert
