BS3997, Classification of woodworking machines and auxiliary equipment. This BritishStandard, which has been prepared unde

、r the authority of the Mechanical Engineering Industry Standards Committee, has been based on proposals made by the Machine Tool Trades Association resulting from agreements reached within the European Committee of Woodworking Machinery Manufacturers which consists of representatives from Austria, D

、enmark, France, Germany, Netherlands, Italy, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and the UnitedKingdom. Other parts of this standard are: Part 2: Accuracy tests; Part 3: Machine sizes and capacities (to be prepared). This standard deals with various aspects of woodworking machines, and specifies dimensions a

、ffecting the interchangeability of the tools fitted to these machines. It has been subdivided into a number of sections, initially two, each dealing with a separate aspect of woodworking machines. It is intended that other sections will follow in due course as the work of the European committee prog

、resses. Attention is drawn to the fact that the classification numbers quoted in BS3997,“Classification of woodworking machines and auxiliary equipment”, have been used wherever relevant throughout this standard. Attention is also drawn to two other standards dealing with cutting blades used on wood

、working machines. These are as follows: BS411, Circular saws for woodworking and their attachment. BS. . . ., Woodworking band-saw blades. (In course of preparation.) A British Standard does not purport to include all the necessary provisions of a contract. Users of British Standards are responsible

、 for their correct application. Compliance with a British Standard does not of itself confer immunity from legal obligations. Summary of pages This document comprises a front cover, an inside front cover, pagesi andii, pages1 to4, an inside back cover and a back cover. This standard has been updated

、 (see copyright date) and may have had amendments incorporated. This will be indicated in the amendment table on the inside front cover.BS4361-1:1968 BSI 12-1999 1 0 Scope This Part of this BritishStandard specifies the dimensions for various components of woodworking machines. It consists at presen

、t of two sections, as indicated below. Further sections will be added at a later date, as international work progresses. Section1 specifies the diameters for the part of the spindles of woodworking machines on which are fitted rotating bored tools. Section2 specifies the dimensions for the slotted c

、ollars and the part of the spindles on which they are fitted, when used in spindle moulding machines. 1 Spindle diameters for woodworking machines with rotating bored tools 1.1 General This section specifies the diameters of the part of the spindles on which are fitted rotating bored tools, such as

、cutters for moulding machines and saw blades for circular sawing machines. 1.2 Dimensions The diameters of the part of the spindles on which are fitted the rotating bored tools, shall conform to the dimensions given in Table 1a in millimetres or Table 1b in inches. 1.2.1 The dimensions in parenthese

、s are non-preferred and their use should be discouraged in new designs. 1.3 Tolerances The tolerance on the spindle diameters shall be to g6, as given in BS1916 1) . 2 Slotted collars and spindles for spindle moulding machines(12.311) 2) 2.1 General This section of the standard specifies the dimensi

、ons of the slotted collars and that part of the spindles on which they are fitted, when used in spindle moulding machines. The corresponding dimensions of related equipment pieces are included as a guide to those engaged in designing other tooling, for fitting to standard spindles. 2.2 Dimensions Be

、cause slotted collars are not manufactured in metric using countries, the inch dimensions will meet immediate requirements. A complete metric standard will be drawn up at a later date to meet the change to the metric system in theUnitedKingdom. 2.2.1 The dimensions of the slotted collars shall confo

、rm to the sizes illustrated in Figure 1 and listed in Table 2. 2.2.2 The spindles shall conform to the dimensions illustrated in Figure 2, and listed in Table 3a or Table 3b. 2.2.3 The corner form of the spindle shall not interfere with the equipment bore. 2.2.4 No driving peg or key shall be fitted

、 between the spindle and the equipment piece except by special arrangement between the manufacturer and the user. 2.3 Tolerances The tolerance on the bore shall be to H7, and on the spindle to g6 as given in BS1916 3) . 2.4 Material The material shall be to the manufacturers specification.
