、kaging. Requirements for needlefelts based on mixtures of animal fibres and cellulosic fibres were specified in BS2628, which was withdrawn in1988. Account has been taken of Ministry of Defence Standard83-70, Cloths, felt, synthetic fibres Part1 Needleloom, for general purposes. Information to be pr

、ovided by the purchaser is given in Appendix A and Appendix B contains cross-reference information between the designations used in this edition of BS7200 and MoD names, descriptions, pattern numbers and NATO stock numbers. Appendix C gives physical test methods. Many properties cannot be specified

、objectively and cannot therefore be included in the specification, examples of such properties include colour, handle, appearance and details of additional design features. Public sector purchasing authorities may be able to supply standard patterns which cover these properties and serve to resolve

、any ambiguities of description. A British Standard does not purport to include all the necessary provisions of a contract. Users of British Standards are responsible for their correct application. Compliance with a British Standard does not of itself confer immunity from legal obligations. In partic

Summary of pages This document comprises a front cover, an inside front cover, pagesi andii, pages1 to4, an inside back cover and a back cover. This sta

、ndard has been updated (see copyright date) and may have had amendments incorporated. This will be indicated in the amendment table on the inside front cover.BS7200:1989 BSI 12-1999 1 1 Scope This BritishStandard specifies requirements for synthetic-fibre based needlefelts manufactured from acrylic,

、 modacrylic, polyamide, polyester, polypropylene or from blends of these fibres and is intended to be used for general purposes including packaging applications. The standard covers the types of fibre to be used and gives constructional and performance requirements including chemical requirements. N

、OTE 1The felts specified in this standard are not intended to be used as underlays for textile floor coverings because these are dealt with in BS5808. NOTE 2The titles of publications referred to in this standard are listed on the inside back cover. 2 Definitions For the purposes of this BritishStan

、dard the definitions given in BS6189 apply, together with the following. 2.1 bulk the total length of fabric included in the contract of supply 2.2 lot the total number of rolls of fabric included in any part delivery of the bulk 2.3 synthetic fibre a man-made fibre produced from a polymer built up

、by man from chemical elements or compounds in contrast to fibres made up by man from naturally occurring fibre-forming polymers 3 Materials Needlefelts shall be manufactured from one of the following fibres as defined in BS4815, or from blends of any of them: a) acrylic; b) modacrylic; c) polyamide;

、 d) polyester; e) polypropylene. NOTEFibres should be blended, and needled to form a uniform product substantially free from permanent ridges and creases and from unteased pieces of fibre. 4 Designation Felts shall be described by a condensed technical description containing the following elements:

、a) a letter to indicate the grade of felt i.e.soft (S) or hard (H); b) a number to indicate the nominal thickness. Example: S5indicates the felt to be soft, with a nominal thickness of5mm. 5 Requirements 5.1 General Felts shall comply with the requirements of Table 1 and Table 2. 5.2 Fibre content W

、here the fibre content is specified, it shall be determined by the appropriate method described in BS4407, and shall be expressed as a percentage of the clean, dry fibre mass. 5.3 Tolerance on dimensions The variation in width of any piece shall not exceed4% of the width specified in the contract or

、 order. 5.4 Freedom from metallic inclusions The felts shall be free from metallic inclusions. Table 1 Chemical requirements 6 Sampling Each sample shall consist of a strip or strips cut from across the full width of the felt to give a total mass sufficient to perform all tests required and of dimen

、sions appropriate to test to be performed. Samples shall be taken at least1m from the end of a roll. Unless otherwise specified, one sample shall be taken from each manufactured lot not exceeding1000m 2 . Each sample shall consist of a strip not less than150mmwide from across the full width of the p

、r water soluble sulphate, the following alternative procedures may be used: a) for water soluble chloride either: 1) automatic microtitration using a chloride ion-selective electrode; 2) ion-chromatography. b) for water soluble sulphate, ion-chromatography. In cases of dispute, gravimetric methods a

The cubes shall be mixed together and a number of them rand

、omly selected to give a test specimen of mass appropriate to the test method under consideration. For physical testing, specimens shall be cut not less than100mm from the selvedges. NOTEAdequate penetration and interchange of extracting liquids may not be obtained if the test samples are not cut int

、o small pieces. 7 Conditioning and testing atmosphere Unless otherwise indicated, conditioning and testing shall be carried out in the standard temperate atmosphere specified in BS1051, i.e.arelative humidity (r.h.) of65 2% and a temperature of20 2 C. Laboratory samples shall be conditioned by expos

、ing them for at least24h in the conditioning atmosphere. 8 Marking Each roll shall bear the following particulars: a) The name, trade mark or other means of identification of the manufacturer; b) The number and date of this BritishStandard, i.e.BS7200:1989 1) ; c) The felt type and designation in ac

、cordance with clause4; d) The nominal width and length and thickness of the piece or sheet; e) The fibre content and any other marking as the contract or order may direct. It may be necessary for the tests to be repeated whenever mater

The accuracy of the claim is therefor

、e solely the responsibility of the person making the claim. Such a declaration is not to be confused with third party certification of conformity, which may also be desirable.BS7200:1989 BSI 12-1999 3 Appendix A Information to be provided by the purchaser The following should be detailed in the purc

、hasers tender or order: a) felt designation (see clause4); b) where required, fibre type and content; c) thickness in millimetres; d) width in millimetres; e) any type or types of synthetic fibre which should not be used in the felt, and/or the maximum percentage allowed of any fibre type or types.
