24、aper Determination of tearing resistance (Elmendorf method) 3 Principle A standard length of adhesive tape, having a small initial cut in it, is torn by means of a force applied suddenly. The force required to produce this tear is measured by means of a pendulum apparatus (e.g. Elmendorf). 4 Apparat
25、us Pendulum machine (see figure 1) of the test method is designed so that the test piece is held between two clamps and is torn by the fall of the pendulum under its own mass. The machine shall have the following characteristics: 4.1 Two clamps: a movable clamp carried on the pendulum and a fixed cl

This plane shall be perpendicular to the plane of oscillation of the pendulum. The gripping surface of the jaws in each clamp shall be not less than 25 mm wide and 16,5 mm d

The clamps shall be 2,5 mm apart. 4.4 Pointer and pointer-stop arranged to record the maximum arc of swing of the sector pendulum. 4.5 Sector release to hold the pendulum in a raised position during the mounting of the test piece and enable it to fall under its own weight. 4.6 Knife attachment
29、for initial slitting of the test piece. 4.7 The knife attachment is located to slit the test piece midway between the clamps at right angles to the upper edge of the clamps. The slit shall extend from the bottom edge of the test piece to a point 4 mm above the top edge of the clamps, leaving a dista

Condition the sample roll for 24 h at 23 C 2C and 50 % 5 % relative humidity. Discard the three outer turns of the roll. Perform the test on five test pieces in eac

If adhesive tape with non-woven backing is under test, take five test pieces in longitudinal or transve

By means of the knife blade, cut a slit in the test piece starting at the bottom edge and perpendicular to it and ending 43 mm from the top edge. The accu
35、racy of the readings obtained with the apparatus depends to a great extent on the exactness of this 43 mm of uncut test piece. 6.4 Press the sector release, causing the sector to fall. This moves the clamp attached to the pendulum away from the fixed clamps and tears the test piece. Measure the forc

42、esive tapes by the pendulum method A.1 Scope This annex specifies the method to measure the force required to tear certain types of narrow adhesive tapes under standard test conditions. EN 12025 requires the use of 63,5 mm wide adhesive tape. As this width is not a common one, it is frequently neces
43、sary to produce a wide adhesive tape specially for the test. It would be an advantage for the user to have a test which can use narrower tape even though this only gives an approximate result. Even so this annex is applicable only to samples of 25,4 mm width or above. A.2 Normative reference This Eu
