Bearings manufactured in accordance with this standard are usually produced by machining semi-finished material orthey are machine- fini

For bearings which are not machine-finished, see DIN 16901. 6 Testing The following factors shall be observed when testing plain bearings: a) The influence of external conditions Because of the influence of ambient conditions on the di

、mensions of plain bearings made from plastics, a standard atmosphere should be agreed on. Since plastics are poor conductors of heat, the bearings shall be given sufficient time to reach the agreed test temperature. NOTE: Bearings made from plastics which tend to absorb moisture can be kept in a sta

、ble state (dry or with specific water content) by sealing them in polyethylene. b) Plastics are less rigid and softer than metals If too much pressure is used in testing, elastic deformation may occur and falsify the test results. Bearings made from plastics should therefore be measured with equipme

、nt which requires a low contact pressure or is contactless, such as micrometers, calipers, snap gauges, ring gauges or plug gauges. NOTE: Ring gauges and plug gauges are the preferred measuring tools. c) Test schedule Testing shall be carried out at least 24 hours after the test piece has been manuf

、actured, or after any subsequent treatment, in DIN 5001 4-23/50-2 standard atmosphere. The method of testing and any after-treatment, such as conditioning or heat treatment, are subject to agreement between customer and supplier. Page 4 DIN 1850-5 : 1998-07 6.1 Scope of testing Test A The outside di

、ameter shall be measured using a ring gauge; the inside diameter shall be measured using a plug gauge. Test B The outside diameter shall be measured using a ring gauge; the wall thickness shall be measured using a two- point contact gauge ). Test C The inside diameter shall be measured using a plug

、gauge; the wall thickness shall be measured using a two- point contact gauge ). Test D The inside diameter shall be measured using an inside gauge”; the wall thickness shall be measured using a two-point contact gauge I). 6.2 Test procedure a) Measuring the outside diameter with a ring gauge A GO an

、d a NOTGO ring gauge shall be used to measure the outside diameter of the bearing. The bearing shall pass through the GO gauge without changing shape when manual pressure is exerted, but shall not pass through the NOT GO gauge. NOTE: Changes to the shape of the bearing are those which could cause gr

、ooves or bumps in subsequent use. Ring gauges shall be manufactured to a tolerance equal to IYz IT 3 as in IS0 286-1. b) Measuring the inside diameter with a plug gauge The bearing shall be inserted into a ring gauge with a diameter in the middle of the tolerance zone of the bearing outside diameter

、, and whose width shall be equal to the width of the bearing. After the bearing has been inserted, the inside diameter shall be measured with two plug gauges (GO and NOT GO). This method shall also be used for random testing where changes to the shape of the bearing cannot be ruled out. Ring and plu

、g gauges shall be manufactured to a tolerance equal to IYz IT 3 as in IS0 286-1. c) Measuring the inside diameter with an inside gauge The bearing shall be inserted into an adapter ring similar in width and material to the bearing ring employed in normal use, and whose inside diameter is equal to th

、e maximum measured bearing outside diameter. Referring to the drawing and using a ring gauge, the inside gauge shall be set at zero for the nominal inside diameter. The bearing shall then be inserted into the adapter ring and its actual inside diameter determined. The sum of the difference between t

、his measurement and the nominal inside diameter gives the actual inside diameter. d) Measuring the wall thickness with calipers A set of calipers shall be used to measure the wall thickness by comparing the actual thickness with the nominal thickness with the help of gauge blocks. The actual thickne

、ss shall be determined by means of the measuring points soldered to the tips of the calipers. The nominal thickness shall be established, the dial set to zero, and the mean difference from three subsequent measurements of the wall thickness calculated. This value shall be added to the nominal wall t

、hickness, taking the sum as the actual wall thickness.
