、rewordThis DIN technical report has been prepared by Working Group AA 1.3 “Design for All andUsability” (Barrierefreie Gebrauchsgter), of the Standards Committee for Performance,Capability and Services (Normenausschuss Gebrauchstauglichkeit und DienstleistungenNAGD). Taking part on the committee wer

、e representatives of user groups with specialneeds in terms of product design such as the visually impaired, auditory impaired andthose with restricted mobility. In this technical report, the user-related abilities which have to be considered arerecorded and transformed into requirements and recommen

、dations for product design, and are formulated into guidelines and reference values.Since no consolidated scientific findings are currently available on some user relatedabilities, no guidelines or reference values can be formulated as yet. This technical report reflects the current status of the expe

、rts discussion. For this reason,it will be necessary to amend the report in accordance with new findings and the state ofscience and technology at a later date.Page 6Products in Design for All0 IntroductionThis technical report should help in developing and manufacturing technical products sothat as

、 many people as possible can use them autonomously and by their ownresponsibility. The safety of the users should also be enhanced, their health protectedand the intended use of the products ensured and facilitated. In this respect, productswhich are designed for all will have a preventive effect.De

、sign for all has ergonomic, psychological, social and economic dimensions. Ergonomic dimension: Products which are designed for all are adapted to the abilityof the user. For people with reduced abilities, they also comply with the basicergonomic requirements in regard to reachability, practicabilit

、y, stress and strainduring use.1) Psychological dimension: Products which are designed for all can help to maintainand improve personal quality of life. Products which are designed for all preventexclusion and stigmatisation.2) Social dimension: Products which are designed for all help to include mo

、re people insociety since they can be used by as many people as possible without restriction. Economic dimension: Products which are designed for all increase the number ofpotential purchases by including users with reduced abilities. The Working Group AA 1.3 “Design for All and Usability” is aiming

、to introduce thistechnical report into the European Standards as a reference paper forCEN/CENELEC Guide 6 and intends that the guidelines and reference values be adoptedin the product standards where they will be expressed in concrete terms. The Working Group is also aiming to use this technical repo

、rt to provide developers, manufacturers and suppliers with guidelines and reference values for designing productsfor all.1) The individual abilities and expectations have also determining influence on the use of a product.2) The perception of limitations is also often dependent on the subjective feel

、ings of the user.Page 7Products in Design for All1 Scope1.1 General InformationThis technical report is designed so that technical products can be developed, manufactured, marketed and, where necessary, placed and set up so that as manypeople as possible can use the products as intended if this is re

、asonably and withapproiate economic efforts achievable. What is reasonably and withappropriate economicefforts achievable when designing a product for all requires careful assessment of all thecriteria mentioned in this technical report, including those which appear to becontradictory and should be

、decided on the merit of each product. Instructions onhandling contradictions are provided in 5.3.When designing and introducing products in design for all, developers, manufacturersand suppliers should keep in mind that valuable progress is made for the potential usereven if, for whatever reason, co

、mplete design-for-all status has not been achieved for theproduct on the first attempt. Even by realising some aspects the number of potentialusers is increased (see 1.3).1.2 Target groups for the technical reportThis technical report for designing products which are in design for all is intended fo

、rthose who prepare product standards as well as for the developers, manufacturers andsuppliers of technical products.1.3 Users of products which are designed for allThe intention of this technical report is that as many people as possible can use technicalproducts as they are intended. The technical

、report therefore takes into account people of all ages even with reducedsensory, cognitive and motoric abilities providing they are basically able to carry out thenecessary activities or are able to acquire these abilities. In special cases, some training for the potential user with special needs can

、 be supportedif products which are designed for all can only be used by doing so.If in special cases a user assigned activity needs to be carried out one time only or veryrarely assistance can be given. This technical report not only takes into account the 5thto the 95thpercentile3)of theworking popu

、the value given in each case. For more details, see supplement to DIN 33402-2.Page 8Products in Design for AllThe following people are not taken into account: those who are not able to carry out the required tasks and are not able to acquire thenecessary abilities to do so, those who are excluded fr

Examples of this are as follows:1) Simple products such as tableware, soap dispensers and kitchen utensils,2) products which can be dismantled such as electric razors, de
