SCOPE 1.1 Sc0 e. This specification covers standard size and oversize metric hea

2、d- less dowe “ pins, commonly referred to as machine dowel pins. 1.2 Classification. The headless dowel pin shall be of the following classes as specified: Class 1 - Dowel standard size metric (DOD-P-63478/1) Class 2 - Dowel oversize metric (DOD-P-63478/2) 2. 12、em requirements shall be as speci- fied herein and in accordance with the applicable specification sheets. In the event of any conflict between requirements of this specification and specifica- tion sheet, the latter shall govern. 3.2 Materials. Recycled and reclaimed materials (see 3.1) shall be us

13、ed to the maximum extent practicable. 3.2.1 Carbon or alloy steel. Carbon or alloy steel dowel pins shall be in accordance with FED-STD-66, except that the maximum sulphur and phosphorous of the composition shall not exceed 0.05 and 0.04 percent respectively. 2 Provided by IHSNot for ResaleNo reprod

Dimensions and to1 erances for al 1 types of dowel pins shall conform to the dimensional requirements of the applicable specification sheet and shall apply after protective fi

15、nishes. 3.4 Performance characteristics. The dowel pins shall meet the follow- ing performance requirements when subjected to the applicable test specified in 4.8. 3.4.1 Double shear strength. Dowel pins should be capable of withstanding the minimum double shear strengths specified in table I. TABLE

The protective finish of the dowel pins when specified in the appm specification sheet shall be as follows (see 4.8.3). 3.5.1 Carbon

17、and alloy steel dowel pins. When phosphate coating or cad- mium plating is specified for carbon or alloy steel dowel pins (see 3.1), they shall conform to 3.5.1.1 or 3.5.1.2 as applicable. When uncoated dowel pins are specified in the contract or order, black-oxide coated dowel pins per MIL-C-13924,

18、 class 1 may be furnished at the option of the contractor. 3.5.1.1 Phosphate coating. Carbon and alloy steel dowel pins shall be phosphate coated in accordance with DOD-P-16232, type Z, class 2. 19、r networking permitted without license from IHS-,-,-DOD-P-63478 3.5.1.2 Cadmium plate. Carbon and alloy steel dowel pins shall be cadmium plated in accordance with QQ-P-416, type II, class 2. Plating thickness shall be 76 Pm (micrometers) . 3.6 Hardness. 3.6.1 Carbon or alloy steel dowel pins. Carbo

20、n or alloy steel dowel pins shall have a core hardness of 4OHRC to 58HRC or equivalent, and a case hardness of 58HRC to 63HRC or equivalent. However, the core hardness of the dowel pin shall not in any instance exceed the case hardness. Minimum penetration for the case hardness shall be 0.4 mm minim

21、um thru 10 mm diameter and 0.75 mm minimum over 10 mm diameter. These requirements shall be met when tested in accordance with 4.8.4. 3.7 Straightness. Dowel pins shall be straight over the effective length within an accumulative total of 0.013 per 25 mm of length for nominal lengths, up to and incl

22、uding 100, and within 0.05 mm total for all nominal lengths over 100 mm (see 4.8.5). 3.8 Surface roughness. Prior to coating, the surface roughness of the cylin- drical surface (diameter) of the dowel pins shall not exceed 0.4 Pm and all other surfaces shall not-exceed 3.2 pm when defined. in accord

23、ancewith ANSI 646.1. 3.9 Workmanship. The workmanship shall be uniform in quality and free of ir- regularities or detrimental defects. The surfaces shall not contain any foreign matter. 4. QUALITY ASSURANCE PROVISIONS 4.1 Responsibility for inspection. Unless otherwise specified in the contract, the

24、 contractor is responsible for the performance of all inspection requiremets as specified herein. Except as otherwise specified in the con,tract, the con- tractor may use his own or any other facilities suitable for the performance of the inspection requirements specified herein, unless disapproved

25、by the Govern- ment. The Government reserves the right to perform any of the inspections set forth in the specification where such inspections are deemed necessary to assure supplies and services conform to prescribed requirements. 4.2 Classification of inspections. The inspection requirements speci

26、fied herein are classified as follows: a. Material inspection (see 4.4). b. Quality conformance inspection (see 4.5) . 4.3 Inspection conditions. Unless otherwise specified, all inspections shall be performed in accordance with the test conditions specified in 4.8.1, 4.8.2, 4.8.3, 4.8.5 and 4.8.6. I

Materials inspection shall consist of certification supported by verifying data that the materials used in fabricating th

28、e dowel pins are in accordance with the applicable paragraph listed in 3.2.1. 4.5 Quality conformance inspection. Quality conformance inspection shall be as specified in table II. Each dowel pin which does not pass any of the tests specified in paragraph 4.8 shall be defective. 4.6 Quality conforman

29、ce inspection sampl ins. 4.6.1 Inspection lot. An inspection lot shall consist of all dowel pins covered by a single specification sheet produced under essentially the same conditions, and offered for inspection at any one time. TABLE II. A random sample of dowel pins shall be taken from each lot in accordance with MIL-STD-105 in- spection level I

31、. The acceptable quality level (AQL) shall be indicated in table 111. The AQL shall apply to each individual defect, not to a group of defects. 4.6.3 Sampling for shear test. Sampling for shear test of dowel pins shall be in accordance with level S-1 of MIL-STD-105. The AQL shall be 1.5 percent defe

32、ctive. 4.6.4 Sampling for finish test. Sampling for protective finish test of dowel pins shall be in accordance with the applicable specifications refer- enced in 3.5.1.1 and 3.5.1.2. 4.6.5 Sampling for hardness test. Sampling for hardness test of dowel pins shall be in accordance with level S-1 of

33、MIL-STD-105. The AQL shall be 1.5 percent defective. The sampling and inspection of the preservation, packaging, packing and container

35、 marking shall be in accordance with the require- ment of PPP-H-1581. 4.8 Methods of inspection. 4.8.1 Visual and dimensional examination. Each dowel pin taken as specified in 4.6.2 shall be examined to verify conformance with this specification. Exami- nation shall be conducted in accordance with t

36、able III. 4.8.2 Double shear strength test. Each dowel pin taken as specified in 4.6.3 shall be tested for double shear strength in accordance with 4.8.2.2. 4.8.2.1 Shear test fixture. The shear test shall be made by means of a suit- able fixture which meets the following requirements. The dowel pin

37、 shall be placed in a hole that passes through a shear block and a plunger within the block. The maximum clearance between the shearing planes of the block and the plunger shall be 0.127 mm. The block and plunger shall be so constructed that the shear planes are normal to the longitudinal axis of th

38、e dowel pin being tested. The block and plunger shall be made of hardened steel or shall have steel inserts with a minimum shearing-surface hardness of 65HRC. 40、D-P-63478 The dowel pin to be tested shall be assembled to the block and plunger with the two ends of the dowel pin at least one dowel pin diameter away from the shear planes. A load equal to the minimum double shear value specified in . table I for the dowel pin size being tested, shall be applied

41、to the plunger. If fracture occurs in the dowel pin under the applied shear load, dowel pin shall be considered defective. Dowel pins too short to be tested in double shear shall be tested by applying the test to two dowel pins simultan- eously in single shear. 4.8.2.2 Double shear test method. The

42、dowel pins shall be tested by the double shear method and shall have the minimum double shear strength as shown in table I. 4.8.3 Finish test. The carbon or alloy steel dowel pins shall conform to 4.8.4 Hardness test. The test procedure shall be in accordance with ASTM E18, except that the core hard

43、ness of each specimen shall be measured on a transverse section of a point one-eighth of the nominal diameter from the axis of the dowel pin. The case hardness shall be determined with a Rockwell Superficlal hardness tester in accordance with ASTM E18 using a 15 kilogram load. determined by using on

44、e of the following test methods. the finish test of QQ-P-416 or DOD-P-16232. 4.8.5 Straightness test. The straightness of the dowel pins shall be 4.8.5.1 Ring gage method. The straightness over the length of the dowel pins shall be such that the dowel pins will pass freely through a ring gage of len

45、gth as tabulated below for the respective dowel pin lengths. The maximum inside diameter of the gage shall be greater than the maximum diameter specified for the pins on the applicable specification sheet by the amount of the straightness tolerance. The dowel pin shall be supported at each end in V- Blocks, rotated beneath a dial indicator, measuring FIM (Full Indicator . Movement). The requirements for packaging, packing and con- tainer marking shall be in accordance with PPP-H-1581 (see 6.2). 6. NOTES 6.1 Intended use. Dowel pins covered by this specification are intended for use in machine ap
