STANDARD TEST CONDITIONS 2.1 General 2.1.1 The methods and measuring techniques Gsscr bed .derein are generally accepted procedures. Equivalent methods may be used if agreed upon by the manufacturer and user.
、2.1.2 The applicability of the tests and methods cited herein depends upon the type of relay and its intended function. Re- quirements, applicable test procedures, and performance criteria, therefore, should be specified in the individual relay specifi- cations. The specifications shall also indicat
、e whether data is to be recorded on a variable or attribute basis and shall list disposition instructions for the test data. 2.1.3 The values specified in this publication are those used and accepted in the industry. 2.2 Standard Reference Conditians The reference conditions for characteristics that
、 are affected by atmospheric conditions shall be: I (i) Temperature 73.4 + 5.4OF (23OC - + 3OC) (2) Relative humidity 20-50 percent (3) Barometric pressure 29.5 + 1 inch Hg. (749.3 2 25.4 mm Hg.) (0.999 - + .O34 m Pa) Standard test conditions may be normal room ambient, provided meas- urements of ch
、aracteristics affected by environment are corrected to standard reference conditions as applicable. 2.3 Accuracy of Measurements and Instruments Inaccuracies in measurements shall not be considered as effectively increasing the specified tolerances. Proper and efficient use of instruments of suffici
、ent accuracy and suitable quality is essential. Instruments shall be calibrated and calibration records made avail- able if required. For pointer type instruments the required reading should reach at least 60 percent of the deflection range of the instrument to assure adequate reading resolution. I
、2.4 Performance of Tests Suitable visual or automatic means for monitoring all tests shall be provided to assure that tests are conducted in accordance with the specified requirements. I 2.5 Sequence of Tests he sequence of environmental tests can produce varied results. The detailed specifications,
、 therefore, should indicate the required sequence as determined by relay design and usage. RS-4 0 7 -A Page 3 3. VISUAL AND MECHANICAL INSPECTION 3.1 General This section specifies procedures for- visual and mechanical in- spection of relays and parts to determine their conformance with requirements
、 that may be specified in the individual relay speci- fications. 3.2 Requirements The extent to which visual and mechanical inspection requirements may be specified depends on: (i) particular relay design, (2) manufacturing techniques and materials, and (3) .reliability and economic considerations.
、3.3 Procedure When visual and mechanical inspection requirements are specified, the applicable procedures listed below shall be used. NOTE: Since the tests covered in 3.3.2 to 3.3.4 are destruc- tive, they shall be applied on a sampling basis only. 3.3.1 Workmanship Magnification up to 1OX may be us

、e strength of the terminal-to-glass seals of glass headers of hermetically sealed relays. These tests are twist, bend, or pull. The appli- cable method(s) shall be specified on the individual relay speci- fications. The assembly shall be tested for leakage before and after the applicable strength te

After applying the specified test, terminals and glass headers shall be inspected for damage or looseness. 3.3.4.1 Pull Test A specified force shall be applied parallel to the longitudinal axis of the terminal using a force indicator having an accuracy of + 10 percent. The specified force shall
、 be gradually ap- plied to the terminal and shall be maintained for a period of not less than 5 seconds nor more than 10 seconds. 3.3.4.2 Twist Test Terminals which are .O45 inch (1.14 nun) or less in diameter shall be subjected to 2 cycles of the following test: A torque-producing rotation or twist
