18、gationatbreakofaself adhesivetapewhenitissubjectedtoatensileforcesufficienttocauseittobreak. Thebreakingstrengthofadhesivetapeisofvalueasanindicationofitsuniformityandquality,anditsabilityto withstandstressesduringapplicationanduse. Theelongationatbreakoftheadhesivetapeisofvalueasanindicationofitsun
19、iformityandqualityaswellasa roughindicationofitsabilitytoconformtocurvedandirregularsurfaces.Itisusuallydeterminedatthesametime asthebreakingstrength. Thistestmethoddescribesaprocedurefortesting12mmor24mmwidesamplescutfromsuppliedrollsofself adhesivetapes.Alternativelyrollsofselfadhesivetapeupto50mm
20、widemaybedirectlytestedintheiroriginal width.Inthesecircumstancesthepracticalbreakingstrengthandelongationwillbetypicalofthemanufacturers cutedges.Whennewlycutsamplepiecesaretested,becauseofthebettercuttingoftheedges,theresultscanbe higherthanwouldbefoundoncommercialtape. 2 Termsanddefinitions Forth

Thetestmethodmaybeusedtodetermineparticularbackingmaterialsortapewidthsappropriatetoadesiredend use. Whenrelativestrengthisofinterest,thetestingshou
23、ldbeontapeinthewidthreceivedtoavoiddiscrepanciesas describedabove. NOTE1 Comparisonoftapesbydifferentproceduresshouldbeavoidedbecausetestparameterssuchastestpiece dimensionorjawspeeddeterminetheresult.Differentlevelswillproducedifferentresultsforthesametesttape.Itisusua lto findbreakingstrengthincre

25、stodemonstratelargedifferencesbetweenmaterials. 4Principle Themethodconsistsofholdingtheadhesivetapeverticallybythetwoclampsofatensiletestingmachine.A tensiletestiscarriedoutuntiltheadhesivetapebreaks.EN14410:2003(E) 6 MethodA:Astripoftapeismountedbetweentwoclampsalignedinastraightflatplaneandaforce
26、isappliedata specifiedrateuntilthetapebreaks. MethodB:Astripoffilamentreinforcedtapeisappliedtotwodrumsalignedinaflatplaneandaforceisappliedat aspecifiedrateuntilthetapebreaks. 5Apparatus 5.1 Tensiletestingmachine Aconstantrateofextension(CRE)tensiontestershallbeused.Thetestershallhavetwoclampswithc
27、entresin thesameplane,parallelwiththedirectionofthemotiononthestressingclampandsoalignedthattheywillhold thespecimenwhollyinthesameplane,ameansofmovingthestressingclampatauniformrateof 5mm/s0,2mm/sandadeviceforrecordingloadandclampdisplacement.Theinstrumentshallbecalibrated suchthatamaximumerrorof2%
28、isallowedonthereading. 5.2Clamps Preferablyofthepneumaticactiontype.Clampfacesshouldbeatleast50mmwideand38mmdeep.Thefaces shouldhavealightcrosshatchedserrationtominimisetheriskofslippage. NOTE1 Plasticmaterialsarereducedinwidthandthicknessastheystretch.Thiscausesthemtodrawdownoutofthe clamps.Pneumat
29、icclampsminimisethiseffect.Itcanbefurtherreducedbytheappropriatechoiceofsurfaceontheclamps. Thegreatestimprovement,bothwithrespecttotheabovementionedshrinkageproblemandsimpleslippage,maybefound fromtheuseofurethanefilmwhichcanbeobtainedasaselfadhesivetapeapproximately0,5mmthick.Thismaterialhasa very
30、highcoefficientoffriction,issomewhatmalleableandiseasilyreplaced.Alternativematerialsarecoatedabrasives,ru bber (orothersynthetictypes)orothertapes. NOTE2 Theuseofclampsfortestingreinforcedtapesisdiscouragedbecausethestrengthofreinforcedtapesrequires excessiveclampingpressurewhichcancausecrushingoft
31、hereinforcingfilaments.Whenthisoccurs,thetapeusuallybreaks atthejawedgewhichcanresultinlowerbreakingvalues.HencetheuseofcylindersdescribedinmethodBandin4.3belowis recommendedforreinforcedtapes. 5.3Cylinders UsedinplaceofclampsinmethodBforreinforcedtapes.Eachofthetwocylindersshallbeapproximately100mm
32、 indiameterandapproximately38mmwideheldinthepositionordinarilyoccupiedbytheclampssothatthetape, whenappliedtothecylindersandextendedbetweenthemfallsinthelineofstressotherwiseoccupiedbythetest piecewhenclampsareused.SeeFigure1. 5.4Scale Ascaleapproximately22mminlengthdividedinto2mmincrementsisattache
33、dtothesurfaceofeachcylinder. Thezeropointshallbeatthepointoftangencyofthetapewiththecylinderduringthetestandthescaleshall increaseupwardsonthelowercylinderanddownwardsontheuppercylinder. NOTE Thesescaleswillbeusedtoobserveandmeasurethetapeslippageduringthedeterminationofbreakingstrength ofreinforced
34、filamenttapes. 5.5 Cuttingtool Anappropriatetestpiececuttershallholdtwosingleedgerazorbladesinparallelplanesaprecisedistanceapart, toformacutterofexactspecimenwidth;twocutters,12mmand24mmcuttingwidth,shallbeavailableor appropriatealternateswhichwillnotcauseedgedamage.Theprecisionontherazorbladesepar
35、ationshallbethe nominalwidth 0,10mm. 5.6 Whenintendingtocharacterisethematerialfromwhichthetapeismade,thetestshouldbeperformedona specimencutfromwithinthesamplematerialboundariesusingasharprazorbladecutterasdefinedin4.5.EN14410:2003(E) 7 NOTE Someofthetraditionaltoolsfortestpiecepreparationshouldbea
36、voidedwhenthebackingiscomprisedofthin plasticsheeting.Theseincludechoppingdiesandsamplecuttersoperatingonashearingprinciple.Thereasonforthisrestrai nt isthatedgessufficientlyraggedanddamagedresultingfromshearingorchoppingcausetearingtooccurbeforethetruetensil e strengthlevelisreached.Tapeswithfibrou
37、sbackingsmaybecuttosatisfactorytestpieceswiththesetools. 6 Testsampleandtestpieces 6.1 Conditionthesamplerollsoftapeinthestandardconditionsof23C 1Cand50% 5%relative humidity(RH)Testattheseconditionsunlessotherwisespecified.Ifthesetolerancescannotbemaintained,the closestpossibletolerancesshallbeuseda
38、ndtheserevisedtolerancesquotedinthereport. 6.2 Discardatleastthreebutnomorethansixouterwrapsoftapefromthesamplerollbeforetakingthetest piecesfortesting 6.3 Takefromeachroll5testpieces.FormethodA,eachtestpieceshallbe200mmlongandnormallythe samewidthastheadhesivetape.FortestpiecesusedwithmethodB,eacht
39、estpieceshallbe700mmlong.For testpiecesusedwithmethodA,theendsthatwillbeintheclampsmaybecoveredwithalayerofpaperorbe foldedbackonthemselves(inthiscasethetestpiecewouldneedtobelonger). Thecoveringshallbewrinklefreesothatuniformpressureisexertedbytheclampsandleavetheentirearea exposedbetweentheclampsu
40、ncovered. FormethodB,thereinforcedtapetestpiecerequiresnofurtherpreparationotherthantohavetheappropriate dimensionsandtoensurethattheadhesiveisnotcontaminatedsothatitwilladheretothecylinders. 6.4 Unlesstherollistobetestedassupplied,atestpiece12mmor24mmwideshallbecutlongitudinallyfrom theroll.Testpie
41、ceswillnotnormallybenarrowerthan3mm. 7Procedure 7.1 Thetestshallbecarriedoutatthestandardconditionsof23C1Cand50%5%RH. 7.2 Removethetestpiecesradiallyfromtherollatanapproximatespeedof300mm/s. NOTE WhentestingeasilyextensibleselfadhesivetapessuchasthosebasedonplasticisedPVC,PE,etc.itis recommendedthat
42、thesamplepiecesbefurtherconditionedfor2htoremovestrainanddistortionduetounrolling. 7.3 MethodAfornonfilamenttapes Settheclamps100mmapart.Clampthetestpiecefirmlysothatthelongitudinalaxisisverticalandinlinewiththe directionoftheappliedforce.Applynomoretensionthetestpiecethanisnecessarytoremoveslack. 43、tartthemachineintomotionat5mm/sandcheckthattheclampsmoveinthesameplaneandparalleltothe appliedforce. Rejectalltestpieceswhichbreakwithin5mmoftheclampsandcarryoutsufficientfurtherteststoobtain5test pieceswhichbreakinthecorrectmanner.
