2、16-A21. SCOPE:The material defined by this specification is a two component, roomtemperature curing epoxy base repair sealer.2. APPLICATION:This specification was released originally for material to seal andrepair defects such as pinholes and skips in vinyl plastsol. The sealeris also used to repair
3、 drip rail, coach joint and roof ditch sealerareas. The sealer can be painted and baked in current production andrepair procedures.3. REQUIREMENTS:3.1 STATISTICAL PROCESSSuppliers must conform to the requirements of Ford Quality SystemStandard Q-101. A mutually acceptable Control Plan as describedth
4、erein is required for material/source approval. Appropriatestatistical tools must be used to analyze process/product data sothat variation in the final product is continuously reduced.3.2 INFRARED SPECTROPHOTOMETRY/THERMAL ANALYSISFord Motor Company, at its option, may conduct infrared and/orthermal
5、 analysis of material/parts supplied to this specification.The IR spectra and thermograms established for initial approvalshall constitute the reference standard and shall be kept on fileat the designated material laboratory. All samples shall produceIR spectra and thermograms that correspond to the

11、hod:. Fill the inside of six 1/2 pint can lids withESB-M4G177-B2 or equivalent and six with ESB-M4G177-C2 orequivalent sealer. Fill the lids approximately half full. Cure the material for 10 minutes metal temperature at163 +/- 2 C. Allow to cool and fill the lids with the repair sealer sothat half t
12、he lid shows the 4G177 type material and theother half shows the repair sealer (Masking half the lidprior to adding the repair sealer may help). Remove the tape, if applicable, and condition the samplefor a minimum of 5 minutes at 23 +/- 2 C. Apply currentproduction enamels as identified by the Body
13、 and ChassisProduct Engineering Office. Expose painted lids to the following paint repair cycles 10times:140 +/- 2 C for 17 minutes oven time.23 +/- 2 C for 20 minutes. Use atopcoat bake of 17 minutes oven time at 130 C. Applycurrent production enamels as identified by the Body a
17、ndChassis Product Engineering Office. Condition painted panels at 23 +/- 2 C for 72 h. Subject one panel with topcoat to each exposure listedabove. Retain extra panel as control. After exposure, examine test panels and compare to thecontrol panel.3.12 STORAGE STABILITYThe material shall be stored at
18、 temperatures below 41 C away fromall sources of heat and sunlight. Heat greatly accelerates aging.Under these storage conditions, the shelf life of the materialshall be 12 months. When these materials are stored attemperatures below 23 C, they shall be conditioned at roomtemperature prior to applic
19、ation. Adequate conditioning permitsthe material to obtain its optimum application properties.3.13 MATERIAL CONSISTENCYThe base and hardener shall be smooth, homogenous mixtures freefrom foreign materials and properties detrimental to normalproduction operations.3.14 FUNCTIONAL APPROVALMaterials bei
20、ng evaluated for initial approval to thisspecification shall be subjected to a production trial. Functionaltrial results must be approved by the affected assembly operationand Design Engineering. Results shall be made available toMaterials Engineering prior to material approval and release.ENGINEERI

22、pect to these properties shall be designated on theEngineering drawing.3.16 SUPPLIERS RESPONSIBILITYAll materials supplied to this specification must be equivalent inall characteristics to the material upon which approval wasoriginally granted.Prior to making any change in the properties, compositio
23、n,construction, color, processing or labeling of the materialoriginally approved under this specification, whether or not suchchanges affect the materials ability to meet the specificationrequirements, the Supplier shall notify Purchasing, Toxicology andthe affected Materials Engineering activity of
24、 the proposed changesand obtain the written approval of the Materials Engineeringactivity. Test data, test samples and a new code identificationare to be submitted with the request.Substance restrictions imposed by law, regulations or Ford apply tothe materials addressed by this document. APPROVAL OF MATERIALS:Materials defined by this specification must have prior approval by theresponsible Materials Enginee
26、ring activity. Suppliers desiring approvalof their materials shall first obtain an expression of interest from theaffected Purchasing, Design and Materials Engineering activity. Uponrequest, the Supplier shall submit to the affected Materials Engineeringactivity its own laboratory report to the spec
27、ification (test results,not nominal values), the material designation and code number and testspecimens for Ford evaluation. 30、emoving oldsealer. Scuff sand enamel surfaces with 180 - 220 gradesandpaper.2) Clean the area thoroughly with a solvent cleaner. Blow offany dust particles.3) Fill the grooved area with two part repair sealer(thoroughly mix repair sealer before application). Apply asmall amount to area and feather smooth. Clean up excessmaterial with solvent.4) Allow 5 minutes to air dry then paint. Follow current spotrepair procedures.
