SCOPEThe material defined by this specification is a flowable , heat curing, non-abrasive oxide filled, one

2、part epoxy adhesive. The adh esive has excellentshock resistance, long-term resistance to ethylene glyco l, and high tensilestrength over a wide temperature range.2. APPLICATIONThis specification was released originally for material used to adhere andseal aluminum tube to nylon plastic tank (ESH-M4D

3、287-C) joints inmechanically assembled aluminum heater cores.3. REQUIREMENTS3.1 VISCOSITY(ASTM D 1084, Method B)3.1.1 As received, at 25 +/- 1 EC 65,000 +/- 10,000 mPas3.1.2 After aging 168 h at 38 +/- 2 EC and 200,000tested at 25 +/- 1 EC, max3.2 SOLIDS, min 99.0 %(ASTM D 2834)3.3 WEIGHT PER VOLUME

4、 1.67 - 1.77 kg/L(ASTM D 816, para 28.1)Weight tolerance for any one supplier shall be +/- 0.024 kg/L basedon the recorded weight of his original approved production sample.3.4 HARDNESS, DUROMETER “D“(ASTM D 2240, 5 g sample cured for 55 minutesat 137 +/- 3 EC)Measured at 25 +/- 1 EC 75 - 95Measured

ESE-M97B44-Aand Ford of Europe cu

6、rrently approved coolant) a nd tap water,60/40 +/- 5 % respectively, and temperature expo sure. Exposecured samples for 45 temperature cycles in a sealed chamberunder air or nitrogen at a pressure of 138 kPa gage. Atemperature cycle is to consist of 24 h per cycle (9 +/- 0.5h at - 40 EC, then gradua

7、lly over a 4 h period, increasetemperat ure to 126 EC and hold for 7 +/- 0.5 h. Graduallydecrease temperature over a 4 h period back to - 40 EC) incoolant.After completion of 45 coolant/temperature cycles each testsample is to be pressurized to 241 kPa and submerged underwater. No leaks are permitte

8、d at the tube to nylon epoxyjoint. Conduct tests in both coolants and perform tensilestrength test at 25 +/- 1 EC.3.5.3 Tensile Strength, After Thermal Shock, min 1000 N - No leaksExpose cured samples to 10 cycles of 15 minutes at 137 +/- 3EC in a convection oven, remove and quench immediately in ta

9、pwater at 10 - 25 EC for 5 minutes. After completion of 10cycles, each test sampl e is to be pressurized at 241 kPa andsubmerged under water. No leaks or bond separations, cracksor fla ws are permitted at the tube to nylon epoxy joint.Perform tensile strength test at 25 +/- 1 EC.Test Sample Preparat

10、ion:. Fabr icate aluminum tubes and mold nylon parts tospecification (see appendix I & II). Nylon samples must be dried in a convection oven to insuremoisture content of 0.3 % max per ASTM D 789. Clean aluminum tubes and nylon parts with trichloroethyleneto remove any contaminants. Preheat epoxy to

11、50 EC and inject 0.5 mL of epoxy intonylon part recess. Insert aluminum tube slowly i nto nylonrecess until tube bottoms out. Cure test samples at 137 +/- 3 EC for 55 minutes withassembled samples in an upright position. Perfo rm strength test with a jaw separation rate of 15mm/minute. A minimum of

12、6 samples are to be tested for each tensilestre ngth test (original and after coolant immersion andthermal s hock) at 25 +/- 1 EC. 13、 3.6 STORAGE STABILITYShall be stored in sealed containers at te mperatures below 25 EC awayfrom all sources of heat. Minimum shelf life of the material shall be3 months.3.7 EASE OF CLEANINGTest Method : Apply a 5 mm bead of adhesive to a clean 75 x 200 mmaluminum panel. Allow to air dry at 25 +/- 1

14、 EC for 2 h. To removeadhesive, wiper panels with a rag wetted with toluene, ketone (MEK)or trichloroethylene.3.8 QUALITYShall be a smooth homogeneous mixture, free from foreign materialsand properties detrimental to normal operations. The material mustmaintain uniformity up to 3 months.3.9 SUPPLIER

15、 CERTIFICATIONEa ch batch of material shall be tested for conformance to thefollowing properties:. Viscosity at 25 +/- 1 EC. Solids Content. Weight Per Volume. Hardness, Durometer “D“ at 25 +/- 1 EC and 120 +/- 2 EC. Tensile Shear Strength, shall be 20.6 MPa, min(ASTM D 1002, 10 mm overlap aluminum

16、to aluminum,Alloy Type 2024-T3, cured for 55 minutes at 137+/- 3 EC)3.10 SUPPLIERS RESPONSIBILITYAll materials supplied to this specification must be equivalent inal l characteristics to the material upon which approval wasoriginally granted.Pri or to making any change in the properties, composition

17、co nstruction, color, processing or labelling of the materialorig inally approved under this specification, whether or not suchchange s affect the materials ability to meet the specificationrequir ements, the Supplier shall notify Purchasing, Toxicology andthe affected Materials Engineering activit

18、y of the proposed changesand obtain the written approval of the Materials Engineeringactivity. 19、ions or Ford, apply tothe materials addressed by this document. The restrictions aredefined in Engineering Material Specification WS S-M99P9999-A1, unlessa different suffix (e.g., A2 or A3) is specified on the engineeringdocument for the application.4. APPROVAL OF MATERIALSMat erials defined by this

20、 specification must have prior approval by theresponsible Materials Engineeri ng activity. Suppliers desiring approval ofthe ir materials shall first obtain an expression of interest from theaffec ted Purchasing, Design and Materials Engineering activity. Uponrequest, the Supplier shall submit to th

21、e affected Materials Engineeringactivity its own laboratory rep ort to the specification (test results, notnominal values), the material designation and code number, and testspecim ens for Ford evaluation. Upon approval, the material will be addedto the Engineering Material Approved Source List.5. G

22、ENERAL INFORMATIONThis information is for directi on of the user and is not a requirement forthe supplier.5.1 CAUTIONThis material contains epoxy resins and curing agents that undercertain conditions of use could be considered toxic. Prolonged andrepeated skin contact w ith this material should be a

23、voided. Part must be molded. The surface finish of recess shall be 30 -70 Fm. Moisture content o f part must not exceed 0.2 % prior to assembly. (i.e., Dry as Molded or Treat 48 h at 105 EC minimum). Part must be completely dry and free of any oils, grease orcont aminants prior to assembly. Trichloroethylene or similarmaterial is acceptable for cleaning.
