、ES Application This procedure is used to test the shear adhesion of self - adhesive polycarbonate instrument dial appliqus to a polycarbonate substrate. Apparatus and Materials Required Tensile Testing Machine With constant rates of jaw separation capable of achieving 25 mm/minute. Rubber Covered St
、eel Roller As described in ASTM D 1000, para 40.3. Test Panels Molded flat polycarbonate sheet material conforming to WSK - M4D761 - A as shown in Figure 1. Test Samples Adhesive backed polycarbonate film according to the material specification cut to the size shown in Figure 1 and thickness as show
、n on the engineering drawing. Degreasing Solvents Industrial methylated spirit or spec ial boiling point solvent. Conditioning and Test Conditions All test values indicated herein are based on material conditioned in a controlled atmosphere of 23 +/ - 2 C and 50 +/ - 5 % relative humidity for not le
、ss than 24 h prior to testing and tested under the same conditions unless otherwise specified. Preparation of Test Specimens 1. Degrease five test panels for each aging condition by rubbing with a clean lint - free cloth soaked in either industrial methylated spirit solvent. Allow to dry thoroughly.
、 2. Carefully peel back 30 mm of the release paper on the back of the polycarbonate film and position the exposed adhesive to produce a lap joint as shown in Figure 1. 7、free tail of polycarbonate film and apply pressure to the adhesive bond by means of four passes of the rubber covered roller over the lap joint. Ensure that no extra downward pressure is applied to the roller. Bond Strength Development 1. Allow the bond strength to develop for the period specified i
、n the relevant material specification or engineering drawing. Environmental Aging 1. Age the test samples according to the relevant engineering drawing or material s pecification. Test Procedure 1. After aging, insert the test assembly in the tensile machine so that the test panel is clamped in the
、upper jaw with the test strip hanging vertically. Clamp approximately 15 mm of the test strip in the lower jaw as in Fi gure 2. Make sure that no load is applied to the test assembly during the clamping operating and ensure that the lap joint is aligned exactly along the axis of the applied load. 2.
、 With a jaw separation rate of 25 mm/minute, apply a tensile shear load to the adhesive joint and record the maximum load to cause failure. 3. Calculate the shear adhesion strength as follows: Shear Adhesion (N/mm2) = F (max)/A Where: F (max) = Maximum load in N A = Adhesion area in mm 2 Report the
