2、R WSS-M3G234-A2 COMPOSITE BASED, BAKEABLE 1. SCOPE The material defined by this specification is a vinyl and polyester composite masking tape that is removable after paint oven bake conditions, without any residue that affects glass bonding. 2. APPLICATION This specification was released originally
3、for materials used to provide localized masking of the windshield and other painted metal flanges prior to the application of urethane adhesive. This tape is to be applied to electrocoated metal surfaces. Tape removal is performed after paint oven bakes. 3. REQUIREMENTS Material specification requir
4、ements are to be used for initial qualification of materials. 3.0 STANDARD REQUIREMENTS FOR PRODUCTION MATERIALS Material suppliers and part producers must conform to the Companys Standard Requirements For Production Materials (WSS-M99P1111-A). 3.4 TAPE PROPERTIES 3.4.1 Breaking Strength (ASTM D 100

8、ctrocoat bake condition per 5.3, schedule 1 and 2. - Apply a 25 x 200 mm tape along the center line of each electrocoat panel. - Expose minimum electrocoat bake panels to para 5.3, schedule 1, primer and topcoat bakes, and maximum electrocoat. - Cool panels to room temperature. - Conduct 180 peel te
9、st per the above ASTM procedure. - Expose the remaining three panels from minimum and maximum bake conditions to 2 weeks at 38 C. - Cool panels to room temperature and conduct peel test. 3.5 BONDING PERFORMANCE TO ELECTROCOAT SURFACE AFTER TAPE REMOVAL (Shall meet all the requirements of shear adhes
10、ion per WSB-M2G316B, 3.7.1.) Panel Preparation: - Prepare ten electrocoat coupons per each exposure condition described in WSB-M2G316-B, para 3.7.1. Use electrocoat as specified in para 5.2. Bake five coupons at minimum and five coupons at maximum electrocoat bake per 5.4, schedule 1 and 2. - Apply
11、tape strips to each coupon and bake minimum bake electrocoat coupons per para 5.4, schedule 1, primer and topcoat bakes, and maximum bake electrocoat coupons per para 5.4, schedule 2, primer and topcoat bakes. - Allow coupons to cool to room temperature. - Manually remove masking tape. - Prepare she
12、ar adhesion samples and conduct tests per WSB-M2G316B para 3.7.1. Test Method: - Use el
13、ectrocoat panels as described in para 5.2. - Prepare sixteen electrocoat panels per paint oven bake matrix para 5.3, schedule 3. - Process panel through the multiple oven bake conditions per para 5.3, schedule 3. - Allow panels to cool to room temperature and manually remove mask. - Apply a 6 x 6 x
14、200 mm WSB-M2G316B urethane adhesive bead to the center line of each panel. - Allow the adhesive to air cure for 72 hours at room temperature. - Perform Quick Knife adhesion test per SAE J1720. 3.7 STORAGE STABILITY The material shall be stored at temperatures below 23 C away from all sources of hea
15、t and sunlight. Heat accelerates aging. Under these conditions, the shelf life of the material shall be 9 months. When these materials are stored at temperatures below 23 C, they shall be conditioned at room temperature prior to application. Adequate conditioning permits the material to obtain its o
16、ptimum application properties. 3.8 FUNCTIONAL APPROVAL Material being evaluated for initial approval to this specification shall be subjected to a production trial. Functional trial results should be available to Body and Assembly Operations prior to material approval. 5. GENERAL INFORMATION The inf
17、ormation given below is provided for clarification and assistance in meeting the requirements of this specification. 5.1 MECHANICAL CONVECTION OVEN A gas fired oven shall be used to cure the material with the capability obtaining 205 C metal temperature on body steel (0.9 mm thickness) within 8- 10
18、minutes. 5.2 SUBSTRATES Electrocoat steel panel - Use current production paints as specified by Body & Assembly Operations. Prepare electrocoat panels per FLTM B1 120-01. Process panels at minimum engineering specification requirements for electrocoat thickness. Bake panels 23 minutes at 166 C metal
19、 temperature unless otherwise specified.
