Change Notice: Replaced “International Truck and Engine Corporation” with “Navistar, Inc.” per corporate directive. 1.0 SCOPE This is a method for evaluating the ability of a dry film of paint to withstand degradation upon prolonged exposure in a South Florida environment. 2.0 APPARATUS 2.1 E
5、xposure racks positioned in a suitable South Florida location 2.2 60 degree glossmeter, Gardner or equivalent 3.0 MATERIAL 3.1 Bonderite CD-10 or Bonderite 958 zinc phosphated steel panels, 100 x 300 mm (4 x 12 inches), available from Advanced Coatings Technologies, 273 Industrial Drive, Hillsdale,
6、Michigan 49242. OR 3.2 Fiber glass reinforced plastic panels available from Materials Engineering, Navistar, Inc., P. O. Box 1109, Fort Wayne, Indiana 46801-1109. 3.3 Mild detergent 3.4 Cleaner-waxer compound, DuPont No. 7 or equivalent 3.5 Absorbent paper, Kleenex, Kimwipes or equivalent 4.0 PROCED
7、URE 4.1 Prepare the appropriate quantity and type of panels for the grade of paint being tested according to the procedure specified in Test Method GT-13, Panel Preparation. 4.1.1 Three steel panels - Grades -17, -17HS, -18, -19, -19HS, -29, -29HS, -29T, -29THS, -32, 32HS, -32HS/Ur, -33, -41, -43, -
8、43W, -50, -54, -55, -55W, -61, and -62 4.1.2 Six steel panels - Grades -53 and -53A 4.1.3 Three fiber glass reinforced plastic panels - Grades -52 and -52HS 4.1.4 For grades where six panels are prepared, two alternative drying procedures, an air dry and an oven dry, are specified. For these grades,
9、 three panels will be dried according to the air drying procedure and the remaining three panels will be dried according to the oven drying procedure. For grades where three panels are prepared, only one drying procedure is specified; for these grades, the three panels will be dried according to thi

12、tion to the panels required in Step (1), the following quantity and type of panel for the grade of primer being tested. Again, prepare these panels according to the procedure specified under Panel Preparation, for the applicable grade; however, on these panels, proceed only to but not including the
13、step in which the primed and dried panels are sanded. 4.2.1 Three steel panels - Grades -50, -55, and -55W 4.2.2 Six steel panels - Grades -53 and -53A 4.2.3 Three fiber glass reinforced plastic panels - Grades -52 and -52HS 4.2.4 For Grades -53 and -53A, where six panels are prepared, three panels
14、will be dried according to the air drying procedure specified and remaining three panels according to the oven drying procedure specified. To prevent rusting, cover the remaining unpainted surfaces on each of the panels with a protective coating such as a primer or lacquer. 4.3 Age the prepared pane
15、ls for 72 hours at 49 + 3C (120 + 5F). 4.4Position the panels in South Florida at a 5 angle facing south and expose for the time period specified in the appropriate grade sheet from CEMS G-5, For Grades -50, -52, -52HS, -53, -53A, -55, and -55W, panels with primer and enamel top coat from Step (1) o
16、f this Test Method and panels with primer only from Step (2) of this Test Method will be exposed in South Florida. 4.5 At the end of each month of the specified exposure time, wash the exposed panels with a mild detergent, rinse with clean water and dry with absorbent paper. 4.6 At the end of the la
17、st month of the specified exposure time, clean the exposed panels, as in Step (6), and then examine each panel with the unaided eye for evidence of cracking, checking, peeling, blistering, bronzing, rusting or corrosion. 4.7 For those grades with a minimum gloss requirement after initial exposure, d
18、etermine and record the gloss reading using a 60-degree glossmeter. 4.8 For those grades with a color change requirement after initial exposure, polish a portion of each exposed panel with a cleaner-waxer and then determine the degree of color change between each of the exposed and polished panels a
19、nd an exposed and polished standard panel approved by International. 4.9 For those grades with an extended exposure requirement, reposition the exposed and polished panels in South Florida as in Step (5). Continue exposure until a total of 12 months exposure time has elapsed. Again, clean the panels
20、 at the end of each month as in Step (6). 4.10 At the conclusion of the twelfth month, wash and dry the panels, as in Step (6), and then examine each panel with the unaided eye for evidence of checking or cracking. AUGUST 2009 Page 3 of 3 5.0 REPORT Report the following information: 5.1 Surface condition after exposure: 5.1.1 Grades -17, -17HS, -18, -19, -19HS, -29, -29HS, -29T, -29THS, -32, -32HS, -32HS/Ur, -33,
23、-41, -43, -43W, -54, -61, and -62: The paint will pass if the best of the test panels shows no cracking, checking, peeling, blistering, bronzing, rusting or corrosion after the specified exposure period. 5.1.2 Grades -50, -52, -52W, -52HS, -55, and -55W: The paint will pass if the best of the primer
24、 only test panels and the best of the primer plus enamel test panels both show no cracking, checking, peeling, blistering, bronzing, rusting or corrosion after the specified exposure period. 5.1.3 Grades -53 and -53A: The paint will pass if the best of the air dried primer only test panels, the best
25、 of the air dried primer plus enamel test panels, the best of the oven dried primer only test panels and the best of the oven dried primer plus enamel test panels all show no cracking, checking, peeling, blistering, bronzing, rusting or corrosion after the specified exposure period. 5.2 Gloss after
26、exposure: 5.2.1 Grades -17, -17HS, -18, -19, -19HS, -32, -32HS, -32HS/Ur, -61, and -62: Report the minimum 60 degree glossmeter reading obtained on the test panels. 5.2.2 Grades -50, -52, -52W, -52HS, -53, -53A, -54, -55, and -55W: The paint will pass if the minimum 60 degree glossmeter reading obta
27、ined from all the primer plus enamel test panels meets the minimum gloss requirement after exposure specified in the appropriate grade sheet for the enamel used as the topcoat. 5.3 Color change after exposure and polish: 5.3.1 Grades -17, -17HS, -18, -19, -19HS, -29, -29HS, -29T, -29THS, -32, -32HS,
28、 -32HS/Ur, -61, and -62. The paint will pass if the best of the test panels shows degree of color change no greater than the approved exposed and polished standard panel for that grade. 5.3.2 Grades -50, -52, -52W, -52HS, -54, -55, and -55W: The paint will pass if the best of the primer plus enamel
29、test panels shows a degree of color change no greater than the approved exposed and polished standard panel for the grade of enamel used as the top coat. 5.3.3 Grades -53 and -53A: The paint will pass if the best of the air dried primer plus enamel test panels and the best of the oven dried primer p
30、lus enamel test panels both show a degree of color change no greater than the approved exposed and polished standard panel for the grade of enamel used as the top coat.
