This specification establishes the requirements for hand portable, aluminum, reusable, air-tight 6 containers for the storage and shipment of high-value missile, aircraft and ordnance parts (see 6.1). 2. The containers shall conform to MS18026 and shall consist of a cover assembly, a gasket, and a body assembly. The cover assembly includes a preformed female seating rail, strike assemblies
16、and a deep drawn aluminum shell. The strikes (mating to the latches of the body) are riveted to strike plates which are spot welded to the cover shell. The body assembly consists of a preformed male sealing rail, latch assemblies and a deep drawn aluminum shell. The latches (mating to the strikes of
17、 the cover) are riveted to latch plates which are spot welded to the body shell. A color change humidity indicator plug, a pressure equalizing valve, a contain- er identification label, and an instruction label are assembled to the body as shown on MS18026. 18、l be provided as required by MS18026. 3.1.1 First article sample. When specified in the contract or purchase order (see 6.2.1), a sample shall be sub- * mitted for first article inspection. 3.2 Materials. 3.2.1 Cover shell and body shell. The cover shells and body shells shall be deep drawn from bla
19、nks of 6061 aluminum alloy conforming to QQ-A-250/11, temper O. 3.2.2 Gaskets. Gaskets shall be fabricated from neoprene rubber conforming to MIL-R-3065, composition as shown in MS18026. 3.2.3 Sealing rails. The sealing rails shall be extruded, 6063 (63s) aluminum ailoy conforming to QQ-A-200/9, tem
20、per T6. 3.2.4 Color change humidity plug indicator. The color change humidity indicator plug shall conform to MS18013. A means of protection shall be provided for the plug to prevent activation prior to use of the sealed container. 3.2.5 Pressure equalizing valve. The pressure equalizing valve shall
21、 conform to MSl8014. 3.2.6 Container identification label. The container identification label shall conform to MS 18016. 3.2.7 Instruction label. The instruction label shall be a decalomania conforming to MS18020. 3.2.8 Handles. Handles shall conform to MS18012. 3.2.9 Latch and strike assembly. The
22、latch and strike assemblies shall conform to MS18015. 3.3 Construction. 3.3.1 Gaskets. All gaskets shall be fabricated from extruded stock. The joined ends shall be vulcanized to result in a smooth, strong, pliable joint. The length of the gasket for a particular container shall be not longer than t
23、he length of the particular gasket cavity or shorter than 1 percent of the length of the particular gasket cavity. 3.3.2 Sealing rails. Sealing rails shall be fabricated from extruded stock. On assembly, the male sealing rail shall be a push fit with the mating female rail of the mating shell in acc
24、ordance with MS18026. The sealing rails shall be formed to shape by bending. Suitable methods of bending such as the use of flexible inserts shall be used to prevent buckling or distortion of the cross-sectional shape of the sealing rail. 3 Provided by IHSNot for ResaleNo reproduction or networking

With the exception of 3.3.3.2, sealing rails shall be joined and shall be bonded to the case by fusion welding in accordance with MIL-W-8604. All
26、welded joints shall be pressure tight (see 3.4.1) and free of imperfections which may cause injury or permit leaks. Location of joints and extent of weld shall be in accordance with the military standard applicable to the particular container. 3.3.3.2 Alternate methods of bonding, Alternate methods
27、of bonding, if elected by the supplier, shall be such that the finished container shall fully meet the performance requirements of 3.5 and shall be in accordance with MS18026. 3.3.3.3 Welding of latch plates, The strike and latch assemblies shall be riveted as shown on MS18026 to the latch plates an
28、d the latch plates shall be spot welded to the shells as shown on the applicable military stan- dard. Spot welding shall be in accordance with MIL-W-6858. 3.3.4 Finish. 3.3.4.1 Surface roughness. All burrs and sharp edges shall be removed. Edges shall be machined to a radius or chamfer of .O20 to .O
29、22 inch. Surface roughness on rolled or drawn, cut, punched, or machined surfaces shall be 125 micro-inches (root mean square) as defined by ANSI B46.1. The sealing and mating surfaces of the sealing rails shall be free of burrs, nicks, voids, scratches, gouges, or weld splatter. 3.3.4.2 Preparation
30、 of surface for painting. Surfaces shall be prepared for painting in accordance with the applicable portions of MIL-STD-171, for aluminum alloys. In the event that containers are pressure tested prior to painting, precautions must be taken to remove all surface contaminants (such as the residues fro
31、m the gasket coating compound) to insure paint adhesion. 3.3.4.3 Painting. All surfaces of the containers shall be sprayed with one coat of zinc chromate primer con- forming to TT-P-1757, followed by sprayingwith light gray enamel conforming to MIL-E-15090, Type III, Class 2. The dry film thickness
32、of the paint shall be 2.0 mils minimum. 3.3.4.4 Gasket coating. The gaskets shall be coated with a soft film, silicone compound conforming to MIL-C-21567. 3.4 Performance. 3.4.1 Pressure retention. The containers shall maintain a positive pressure of 3 pounds per square inch without leakage when tes
33、ted as specified in 4.6.1.1 or 4.6.1.2. 3.4.2 Shock. The containers, loaded with dummy weight specified in table I, shall meet the pressure retention requirement of 3.4.1 after completion of the test specified in 4.6.2. TABLE I. The containers shall meet the pressure retention requ
36、irement of 3.4.1, after exposure to temperatures of -40F and + 160“F, when tested as specified in 4.6.4. 3.5 Workmanship. The container shall be constructed and finished in a manner to assure compliance with all requirements of this specification. The standards of workmanship exhibited in an approve
37、d first article sam- ple shall establish the requirements of workmanship for production containers. 4. QUALITY ASSURANCE PROVISIONS 4.1 Responsibility for inspection. UnIess otherwise specified in the contract or purchase order, the contractor is responsible for the performance of all inspection req
38、uirements as specified herein. Except as otherwise speci- fied in the contract or purchase order, the contractor may use his own or any other facilities suitable for the performance of the inspection requirements specified herein, unless disapproved by the Government. The Govern- ment reserves the r
39、ight to perform any of the inspections set forth in the specification where such inspections are deemed necessary to assure supplies and services conform to prescribed requirements. 4.1.1 Responsibility for compliance. All items must meet all requirements of sections 3 and 5. The inspection set fort
40、h in this specification shall become a part of the contractors overall inspection system or quality pro- gram. The absence of any inspection requirements in the specification shall not relieve the contractor of the responsibility of assuring that ali products or supplies submitted to the Government
41、for acceptance comply with all requirements of the contract. Sampling in quality conformance does not authorize submission of known defective material, either indicated or actual, nor does it commit the Government to acceptance of defective material. 4.2 Classification of inspections. The inspection
42、 requirements specified herein are classified as follows: t a. First article inspection (see 4.4). b. Quality conformance inspection (see 4.5). 4.3 Test conditions. Unless otherwise specified, all tests shall be performed at a temperature between 65“ and 95F with ambient relative humidity. 4.4 First
43、 article inspection, 4.4.1 First article samples. When specified in the contract or order, the first article inspection sample shall consist of one container (see 6.2.1) of each size being procured whose components have been manufactured and assembled under actual production conditions. As soon as p
44、ractical after the award of the first contract or ord- er, prior to submission of the aluminum containers for acceptance under contract, the supplier shall furnish first article inspection samples within the time specified (see 6.2.1). When specified in the contract or order, certificates of complia
45、nce and first article test report shall be prepared (see 6.2.2). Delivery of the items contract- ed for shall not be made until the first article tests are completed and the items found acceptable. The samples, certifications, and reports shall be forwarded to the procuring activity. The samples sha

When specified in the contract
48、or order, the supplier shall prepare a test report in accordance with MIL-STD-831 (see 6.2.2). 4.5 Quality conformance inspection, Quality conformance inspection shall consist of the tests specified in 4.6. 4.5.1 Lot size. An inspection lot shall consist of containers of the same size, manufactured
49、under substans- tially the same conditions, and presented for acceptance at one time. 4.5.2 Sampling. 4.5.2.1 For visual and dimensional inspection. Sampling for major defects shall be in accordance with MIL- STD-105, inspection level I, at an AQL of 1 percent. Minor defects shall be examined at an AQL of 2.5 percent. The classification of defects specified in table II shall be used as a basis for acceptance or rejection. 4.5.2.2 Sampling for tests. From each lot
