This specification covers automatic, thermo sensitive, quick response (QR) sprinklers installed in overhead sprinkler systems for shipboard firefighting service. Sprinklers meeting this specific

3、ation are suitable for use in seawater piping systems. 1.2 Classification. Sprinklers shall be of the frangible bulb type in pendant, upright, or horizontal sidewall configuration as defined in ANSI/UL 199. 2. The automatic sprinklers shall be the frangible bulb type. s

23、prinklers shall meet the sensitivity requirements for quick response sprinklers defined in ANSI/UL 199. extended periods of time when pressurized with seawater. The sprinklers shall open as intended and release all parts at pressures of 5 to 175 psig, when the bulb temperature is within the actuatin

24、g temperature range defined in ANSI/UL 199. The sprinklers shall be leak tight for 3.2.2 Temperature rating. Automatic sprinkler temperature ratings, temperature classifications, maximum overhead temperatures and colors coding shall be as specified in table I. The temperature classification and fram

Nominal orifice sizes, corresponding discharge coefficients, and identification

27、features shall be as specified in table II and shall be consistent with ANSI/UL 199 requirements. Dimensional tolerances on orifice sizes shall be consistent with ANSI/UL 199 requirements. 30、rifice sizes. 3.2.4 Inlet threads. The sprinkler body shall be constructed with a 1/2 inch NPT male thread in accordance with ANSI B1.20.1. Threads shall be clean cut and true, and free from burrs, scoring, or chatter marks, 3.2.5 Seal design. The seal between the orifice cap and the sprinkler body

31、shall conform to the design described in 3.2.5.1 or 3.2.5.2. designs are acceptable. No other seal 3.2.5.1 O-Ring sed. The seal shall be provided by a radial O-ring in the orifice bore. cap. The automatic sprinkler shall be chemically

35、or mechanically staked to maintain the manufacturers assembly load. The preload shall not be alterable by the rise of common hand tools without causing visible damage to the sprinkler. 3.2.7 SDecial tools. Special tools shall not be required for installation and routine maintenance of sprinklers. Sp

36、ecial tools are defined as those tools not listed in the Federal Supply Catalog (copies of this catalog may be consulted in the office of the Defense Contract Management Area Operations (DCMAO). 3.3 Materials. 3.3.1 Materials of construction. Materials of construction shall conform to table III for

37、each component. If a material is not specified for a particular component, the material selected shall be suitable for the purpose intended. Furthermore, material for internal components in contact with the system fluid shall be compatible with seawater, and materials for external components shall b

38、e compatible with a marine atmospheric environment. 3.3.2 Coatings - and platings. - Automatic sprinklers shall not be plated or coated, accordance with 3.6. Paint shall be permitted only for the purpose of color coding/marking in 3.4 Performance 3.4.1 General. Automatic sprinklers shall meet all of

39、 the performance requirements for quick response automatic sprinklers specified in ANSI/UL 199. Automatic sprinklers shall withstand the shock requirements of e grade A, hull mounted, class I, type C as specified in MIL-S-901 (see 4.5.3). 3.4.3 Vibration. Automatic sprinklers shall conform to type I vibration req
